Your Questions About Hard Candy Glamoflauge

Maria asks…

What’s a Full Coverage Concealer that’s a lot like Hard Candy’s Glamoflauge?

I hear so many awesome things about Hard Candys’ new Glamoflauge, but I cant find my shade anywhere and I cant find any sites online that I can order it from. So does anyone know any other concealer that works just as good as Hard Candy‘s Glamoflauge?

Susie answers:

Mary kay concealer is amazing it comes a squeezable tube is a dupe
for Amazing concealer that cost $40 mary kay cost $10 but is long lasting
GOOD coverage is great color selection is darn good.

Paul asks…

Glamoflauge hard candy CONCEALER?

Is the hard candy glamoflauge concealer good?

Susie answers:

I can’t believe it only cost me $6. The tube will last forever. I love how this covers EVERYTHING, I seriously mean everything! It stays put under my eyes and does not cake a crease. It spreads easily and has a very emollient feel to it without being greasy. I kind of knead the tube a bit before I apply to warm it up. I use the teeniest ammount ( the previous pin head comments seem about right) pat in on for the best coverage and blend the edges out with a fluffy e/s brush. It does wonders! Kind of has the feel of Mac’s concealer in the pot or the really old long DC Burt’s Bees concealer (which I used to love as well). It’s an amazing product and a steal. Plus, the little pencil is great for your waterline and opens up your eyes just like Mac’s chromagraphic pencil.

Mary asks…

hard candy glamoflauge concealer?

does anyone know anywhere in the UK i’d be able to purchase this or even buy online? please help, we haven’t got any walmarts in Britain! :(
Thanks!

Susie answers:

I’m sorry but I tried to look for it outside the US and can’t find it (I’m Icelandic leaving in the US). I actually have to buy it and send over to friends back in Iceland who love it.

William asks…

Hard candy glamoflauge concealer VS mac select cover-up?

will either one of these crease????
If not, which one would you suggest getting ???????

Susie answers:

Neither one creases on me. I think the Hard Candy is amazing for what you pay and the coverage is amazing and doesn’t cake on my dry skin. I would give it a try if I were you. MAC select cover-up works amazing as well but for the price it makes no sense to spend more.

Daniel asks…

hard candy glamoflauge concealer VS mac select cover-up?

which one covers under eye circles better without creasing? pros and cons

Susie answers:

“A heavy duty, highly pigmented, multi-use concealer that delivers ultimate coverage. The formula blends seamlessly into skin with plenty ofplay time creating a flawless and natural look perfect for any occasion. You can hide everything from dark circles and blemishes to tattoos!” – Glamoflauge

“Liquid camouflage for the skin. Texture-free, virtually invisible. Comes in a tube. Blends in. Brightens and lightens dark areas, erases spots, evens-out skin tones. Makes skin flaw-free. Use pre-foundation, or on its own. Don’t reveal it, conceal it!” – MAC Select Cover-Up

My take on it is that the Glamoflauge would be more effective.. Reason? Because it is a concealer instead of a liquid cover-up.. If it’s enough to hide tattoos, it’s enough to hide your under-eye dark circles.. (: Hope this helps!

Your Questions About Sugar Free Candy Store

Donald asks…

Online Sugar Free Store?

Plain and simple, I am looking for an online sugar free store. Mainly looking to buy sugar free cake, sweets, candy, chocolate etc for someone who is diabetic (as birthday present). If you know of any online store that delivers please let me know. Thanx

Susie answers:

Www.edietshop.com/onlinestore/ all depending on where you live, some chocolate shoppes will have sugar-free available

Jenny asks…

where can i get sugar-free candies and from which store in Egypt?

Susie answers:

Contact your local or natioal diabetes association and ask.

In the states, sugar free candies and cookies can often be found in chain pharmacies and grocery stores like Walgreens and Walmart. There might be locations in major cities in Egypt.

Thomas asks…

Would you like to see more ‘sugar free’ candy on stores’ shelves?

Susie answers:

No.

Nancy asks…

What major grocery stores in Middle Tennessee sell Sugar Free Baby Ruth Candy bars?

Susie answers:

Find the 1-800 number on the pack and call the manufacturer. They will tell you which stores
carry their products.

Linda asks…

What is a good place to buy large quantity or bulk sugar free candy?

As a Kansas City cab driver, I liked to give out candy to children who ride in my cab at times like Halloween, but I prefer to use sugarless candy. In this manner, if the child is diabetic, their does not have to say no. The problem is that no matter where I go, Wal-Mart, Target, grocery stores, etc., while they carry lots cheap sugary candy, the sugar free candy comes only in very small, but expensive packages, with very limited selection. I can spend up tp $100 for just a few pounds.

Though fuel prices are down right now, cab drivers have been burning money for months. There is just not much money for the usual extras we would like to provide. Any ideas on a less expensive alternative. And no, I don’t cook.

Susie answers:

I’m not sure where to get large quantities, but do make sure that it says carb free or no carbs on it to, not just sugar free. Carbs are the main thing that make the blood sugar rise, and sugar free does not always mean carb free.

Your Questions About Halloween Candy

Donald asks…

halloween candy?

Approximately 3-4 years ago during halloween a company brought out a chewy candy called “cherry berry blasts”, my entire family including myself became addicted to them and now you can’t find them anymore. Does anyone know what i’m talking about? I look for them every halloween and never find them.

Susie answers:

Hello:

Have you tried looking online for them? Sometimes, some type of online grocery stores will sell hard to find candy,or you could look on E-Bay too! The last thing is if you were ever able to save the wrapper that the candy came in,then you could contact the company directly and see if it is still in production. If the candy is still being made and you can’t find it in your local grocery stores, then the company that makes the candy, might be able to ship it to your house, good luck on finding it! ;-)

Joseph asks…

Halloween Candy?

What is your favorite kind of candy to get on Halloween?

Susie answers:

The peanut butter kisses that are wrapped in orange or black wax paper. Yum!

John asks…

Halloween candy?

as a kid what was the best candy to get for Halloween ?
My favorite was any thing chocolate
Not asking for advice on what to buy !! just asking what you liked as a kid because I’m nosey lol

Susie answers:

As a child my favorite candy was the peanut butter things wrapped in the orange and black paper.

Helen asks…

What type of Halloween candy should I give out this year?

I get about 300 kids every Halloween and have decided to buy just one type of candy. Last year I had several types and let the kids choose, but some of them got greedy and wanted one of everything so I am limiting selection to just one type. What would be your favorite treat if you could only choose one?

Susie answers:

Something chocolate is always a hit for me. Reeses would be my first choice.

Charles asks…

How much Halloween candy should I eat everyday?

I just lost a whole bunch of weight and I don’t want to gain a single pound, but hey its Halloween who could resist those yummy chocolates? I am toning up, but I don’t want to deprive myself so how much Halloween candy should I eat per day? I know im going to get a lot on Friday.

Susie answers:

I have the same problem, here is what i do, i usually put between one and 3 peices out on my counter and put the bowl up in the pantry then after i eat my pieces i dont get any more. It really helps when you dont have to look at it. If you get tempted to easily give someone the key and lock your candy away instructing them to not let you have any more. Trust me it works.

or when it even starts.

But the happiness it brings you

and you realize that
Friendship
is God’s most precious gift.”

Michael asks…

What are some good ideas for Candy Grams in school?

So me and the yearbook committee are doing this fundraising for the yearbook. And we were thinking of doing valentine gram. we need to get something cheap and good at the sametime which boys and girls will like. we are going to be having a deluxe and a regular candy gram. we had an idea where the deluxe candy gram would be a small bag of hershey kisses and a card. and the regular as a heart lollipop and a card. if u have better idea’s i wud really love to know. and i wud need to know where to buy them and how much they are.

Susie answers:

Well here is another idea. You could cut out hearts and attach the piece of candy to it and on the back o=have a little tiny card that says happy valentines day then the person sending it rights a little note in it.

Robert asks…

trying to find a website that i can order large amounts of Valentine Candy gram cards for a reasonable price?

Donald asks…

What are good alternatives for chocolate in Valentine-grams?

My school club wanted to sell valentine-grams for upcoming valentine‘s day, but our school doesn’t approve selling candy anymore. What else can we put that’s a good alternative for less than a buck each?

Susie answers:

No candy? Some schools use packs of gum, or drinks, other food items. One of my old schools had fake flowers that they’d give out as well. Fake flowers can be sweet, and decorate them with a ribbon and a tag and you’re all good! Hope this helped =)

Chris asks…

Yummy easter recipes?

Making a ham, mash potatoes and/or candied yams, and easter cupcakes. What a wonderful spread huh? Give me some idears

Susie answers:

This is great veggie side…I’ve made it before

Roasted Asparagus with Hollandaise
Asparagus:
1 pound medium asparagus
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper

Sauce:
1 large egg yolk
1 1/2 teaspoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
Pinch cayenne pepper
4 tablespoons unsalted butter (1/2 stick)
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
Trim the woody ends from the asparagus. Spread the spears in a single layer in a shallow roasting pan baking sheet, drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with salt, and roll to coat thoroughly. Roast the asparagus until lightly browned and tender, about 10 minutes, giving the pan a good shake about halfway through.

Meanwhile, put the egg yolk, lemon juice, and cayenne in a blender. Pulse a couple times to combine.

Put the butter in a small microwave proof bowl and heat in a microwave until just melted. With the blender running, gradually add the melted butter into the egg to make a smooth frothy sauce. If the sauce is really thick blend in a teaspoon of lukewarm water to loosen it up. Season with the salt and serve immediately or keep warm in a small heat-proof bowl set over hot (but not simmering) water until ready to serve.

Spread the roasted asparagus on a serving platter. Grind a generous amount of pepper over the top.

Cook’s Note: This recipe can be easily doubled. If you double the recipe, be sure to place the stems on the baking sheet so that the tips are pointed toward the center, and the bottoms are pointed out, toward the edges of the pan. Since the tips are thinner than the stems, they tend to cook faster. However, when roasting, items at the edges of the pan cooked more quickly than those in the center. Taking the time to lace them this way helps the asparagus cook evenly.

Ruth asks…

what is your favorite easter dinner ? add some recipes please thanks?

what is your favorite candy as well ?? mine is the chocolate dipped marshmellows.

Susie answers:

Hi, good to see you again!

Ham and sweet potatoes with ice cream and chocolate cake for dessert are what we have often had.
Favorite candy? Chocolate covered blueberries, and I haven’t had any for months!

I don’t have any recipes, but you don’t need ‘em for this simple stuff, I know. :)

Your Questions About Christmas Candy Molds

Carol asks…

How many candies will fit?

I am making Christmas candies and I bought a 1/2 lb ballotin box for gift purposes. I am getting ready to buy my ingredients and I was wondering if anyone knew how many candies will fit in that size box? These are molded candies that will be held in candy cups.

Susie answers:

This is kind of a guess, but when I buy candy in boxes, I usually get about 24 in a 1-pound box, so I would say a half-pound box should hold about 12. That means each candy is a little more than half an ounce, or 1 Tablespoon, if you want to try to estimate it that way.

Ken asks…

Has anyone tried the cream cheese mints recipe?

I am thinking about making this recipe for Halloween and Christmas. It calls for cream cheese, powdered sugar, butter, peppermint oil, and food coloring. You can use other flavors and also mold them with candy molds. I’m wondering if anyone has tried this recipe. If yes, were they good? Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Susie answers:

I made these for my wedding. I have never tried any flavors except peppermint. I like them and they were all eaten at the wedding..

My only suggestion is if you use a mold, dust it with powder sugar or roll a ball in white sugar before pressing in to the mold.

John asks…

What are the dimensions of an Oreo cookie?

I know this is a super-weird question, but I’m thinking about making chocolate-covered Oreos (in candy molds) for Christmas presents and I want to find packaging online that fits the dimensions of a few Oreo cookies. Thanks to anyone that has an Oreo nearby and can measure the height and diameter! Happy holidays everyone! :o )
Interesting point. I’m not selling them– just giving to family and friends as gifts– so it shouldn’t be a copyright issue. I’m at work and don’t have any Oreos on hand (and wasn’t going to buy them for a couple more weeks) but I needed to order the molds and boxes online now so they can be shipped to me before I make them. Thanks for the dimensions, guys!

Susie answers:

You have a ruler around some where so find it and use it cookies are about 1 inch and 1 half inch wide

David asks…

Can you mold divinity, with a candy mold?

for christmas I want to make the harry potter ice mice. I am going to try to make divinity and add mint flavoring. I have a mouse mold but I heard divinity was realy sticky so i dont know if it would actualy mold. I have never had it but everyone I know says its good.

Susie answers:

Divinity is a lovely candy. Really cool stuff. And it can be molded if you want or piped.

I pipe the stuff using a large tip on the pastry bag. I have another person following me sticking shoestring licorice in for tail and almond slices for ears after I pipe the 2 pieces of the mouse body.

I have also made chocolate covered cherries using fondant covered cherries with the stems attached. We used sliced almonds for the ears with Hershey Kisses for the heads, melt the edge of the hershey kiss a bit and stick the mouse ears on it.

My granddaughter piped her divinity candy for a judging competition and was informed by the judges that that was very improper as divinity MUST be poured and cut like fudge!! My question like hers was “But WHY??”

Use some Pam or veggie oil in a mister on your molds and it should work fine. But you must work very rapidly and the candy is hot. Have a helper to smooth the backs of the molds while you spoon or pipe the candy into the mold.

Hint: Use candy thermometer to cook the syrup!!!

Paul asks…

When you were staring out with your young family, what traditions for Christmas did you keep?

Or did you break the mold and start some new of your own.

I kept some old ones, but thing we started with our young family was Santa hanging candy canes on the tree. My kids who are in their twenties say it added to the majic of the season.
magic not majic (LMAO)
P.D. The tradition of guilt, I love it, I had that happen a few times myself.

Susie answers:

A little of both – we combined a few traditions from my family and a few of my husband’s, and since we moved across the country we had to start some of our own.

When starting out, usually, money is a little short, so we never really emphasized gifts. Hiding the few gifts until Christmas morning was always the challenge, especially now that the kids are in their twenties and their teenage years were spent being snoops.

I still have my itsy-bitsy stocking (it’s nearly 50 years old), and I eagerly await for it to be filled on Christmas morn. The kids and my husband all have their LARGE stockings, I make sure they are filled to the brim, mine is always empty in the morning. Awww – - it has now become a kind of standing joke, because for over 20 years the same routine has played out, everyone opens presents, at the end, I say “let’s see what Santa left in our stockings” and then the awww- – - when my guilt-filled family realized, once again, that they forgot their one duty this holiday and I say, maybe next year…..

Your Questions About Divinity 2 The Dragon Knight Saga

Lisa asks…

Are these the same game?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mastertronic-Ltd-Divinity-Xbox-360/dp/B002USCI8W/ref=pd_sim_vg_h__6

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Divinity-II-Dragon-Knight-Saga/dp/B0049B3OZE/ref=pd_sim_vg_h__2

Cheers!!

Susie answers:

Actually, Ego Draconis is a year old. The Dragon Knight Saga’s the latest version, basically Ego Draconis with more content and less glitches. At least, I’m quite sure that’s correct.

Joseph asks…

Why is it lagging so much?

Hi,

I just got this new PC made by a friend of my family who works with PCs and it should really be fast, while gaming etc.

Inter Core i5 760 2.80GHz
8GB Ram
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
ATI Radeon HD 4550 1GB dedicated

well and the thing is, games like Divinity II Dragon Knight Saga, RUSE, Dragon Age Origins, LOTRO, Elder Scrolls Oblivion, Empire Total War, they all lag really really much while I’m playing on the highest graphics and most are impossible. Divinity II is only playable at the lowest graphics.. I just wanted to know if you guys thought this is normal, because again, it is supposed to be a computer that would run these kind of games smoothly.

TY in advance.
I know very little when it comes to a little more advanced level of computing so for not messing it up even further than it might be, I’ll talk to the guy who built it, cuz i’m not sure what you said I should do :b. But good to know that it was suppose to have the capacity to play them (: thanks
well figured out all the drivers were up to date, but what did you mean with the bios settings?

Susie answers:

There are a couple of things that cause lag, especially if your system is up-to-date and well capable of handling the games you are playing:
(1) If you have spyware, viruses, or addware on your computer, (2) If your hard drive is 90% or more full (with newer systems, this is rare) (3) Any background programs running can take up needed memory the game uses (press CTR ALT DELETE and check windows task manager. Look at the bottom of the box and see what the “CPU usage” says. If it says 40% or more, you should probably figure out what processes are happening on your system, as this might be the reason for your lag.
I’d imagine either #1 or #3 would be the culprit for your lag. Do you have any credible anti-virus programs running and keeping your computer safe with up-to-date virus definitions? Have you run a scan lately? Even new computers are subject to the attack of internet viruses, especially if you don’t have a firewall on while connected to the internet. Anyway, I hope you get whatever the problem is solved. It stinks to get a new comp and be all excited about all the games you can play only to realize you can’t play them :( .

John asks…

this computer good for gaming?

it has :
processor: AMD Phenom X6 T1035
4 GB
1 TB
Windows 7 Home Premium
ATI Radeon HD 5570

will it play games like fallout 3, divinity 2 the dragon knight saga, Risen , Gothic 4, fable 3.. maybe COD ? without lag maybe on low settings but without lag??
thank you

oh btw it is ACER ASPIRE X5400

Susie answers:

It’s totally counterproductive to get any kind of small form factor (SFF) PC for gaming. It makes it nearly impossible to upgrade the power supply later, which, in turn, relegates you to using lower-powered video cards in the future as well.

The 5570 is not that fast, and, in the likelihood you decide to upgrade it later, you won’t be able to.

When comparing computers, just keep in mind, any slimline/SFF style PC is kind of a dumb choice for a gaming PC. For gaming, select a computer with a good CPU, that comes in a standard size mid tower case –in case you decide to upgrade the power supply and video card later.

Daniel asks…

How would you describe these games and what’s you looking for?

Kane and lynch 2,Two worlds 2,Bulletstorm,Arcania gothic 4,Fable 3,Divinity 2 The dragon knight saga,Dragon Age 2, AC Brothehood,Alpha protocol,Singularity,Sniper ghost warrior,Rogue warrior,Velvet assassin,Twin sector,Aliens vs Predators,Silent Hunter 5,Damnation,Wofstein(2009),Red faction guerrilla,Arma 2 Arrowhead,Penumbra requim,Silent hill homecoming,Godfather 2,Shellshock 2,Deus Ex 3,Rage,Uncharted 3,AC3,GTA5,The first templar,The last guardian,

Susie answers:

I only play ArmA 2, nothing else on or off the list

Sharon asks…

What’s a good game for PC I should buy?

Like the title, I’m interested in getting a new game for PC. I’ll tell you some of what I have already, split into which I like and which I don’t so much.

Really liked:
Mass Effect 1 & 2
Fallout 3 and New Vegas
Just Cause 2
Bad Company 2 (Don’t like Medal of Honor so much or Call of Duty)
Oblivion
The Witcher
Deus Ex

Not my favorite but like:
Assassin’s Creed & Assassin’s Creed 2
Dead Space
Grand Theft Auto 4 & Episodes
Need for Speed: Shift
S.T.A.L.K.E.R SoC

Don’t really like:
Dragon Age
Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga
Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 :D on’t like
Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box
Metro 2033
Alpha Protocol

I know there’s probably plenty more examples I could give, but I can’t think of more right now.

Just shoot off some lists of games you think I’ll enjoy, or games you’ve enjoyed and why.

Thanks!
Don’t like the sims

Susie answers:

Your Questions About Russell Stover Sugar Free Candy

Maria asks…

Are there long-term health effects of sugar-free candy to concentration/memory?

I am a teen and just got a major headache after eating Russell Stover‘s sugar free candy (it was just lying on a table).. Are there any long-term effects of maltitol to concentration or memory?

thx

Susie answers:

Is Santa Real?

No Candy doesn’t make you dumb. Anything ending with -ol is a sugar alcohol. Sugar Alcohols are sold in whole foods and whole foods wouldn’t carry anything harmful, unless it’s seafood.

Susie answers:

Maltitol, and other “sugar alcohols” like Sorbitol do have a laxative effect and people are warned not to eat too much. Your headache might be coincidental or you might have an intolerance to any of the ingredients.

What you almost certainly don’t have is cancer. The sweetener Aspartame has been the subject of numerous studies and is considered safe. Like any additive you should never consume too much.

If you are getting headaches or are having problems with concentration or memory it might be due to low-blood sugar (particularly if you eat a lot of sugary foods or candies). Eating foods that give you energy over a longer period (could be anything from dried fruit to oar-bars) are much better

Chris asks…

Does sugar free candy taste good?

Like the Russell stover chocolates and candies to suck on..do they taste good or do they taste suagr free..LOL
Well destiny thank you for pointing out the obvious..zgood thing you answered or i would of never knew sugar free candy had no sugar..boy glad you were here.
Who doesnt know sugar free candy has no sugar!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OBVIOUSLY!

Susie answers:

Depends on the type but some are not bad at all. The trick is to get a new kind of sugar free candy as opposed to a sugar free version of a regular candy you like ;)

Sharon asks…

does sugar free candy rott your teeth?

This question came up between my friends and me while discussing sugar free toffee squares by Russell Stover. They stick in your teeth pretty bad and this broght up the question…. Does sugar free candy rott your teeth?

Susie answers:

No, bacteria living in the mouth cause cavities by producing acids that etch the enamel. Those are left in contact with the teeth for too long, usually by folks who do not brush or floss enough. It has nothing to do with what you eat, but your dental hygiene habits.

Laura asks…

Does anyone know this to help me with the Atkins Diet?

If you have or are now on the Atkins Diet do you know if having sugar-free candy (it has 0 carbs) is alright? I have been eating Russell Stover candy made with splenda & it has sugar alcohols but has 0 carbs. I was wondering if it could have an effect on your ketones & make you stop losing weight. Thanks for your time.

Susie answers:

It really depends on the person. Some people can eat it and still lose weight on Atkins, some cannot. If you are following a strict regime of Atkins it is definitely not allowed during the Induction phase. After that, it’s a “your miles may vary” type of thing…

Your Questions About Dark Chocolate Candy Recipes

Ruth asks…

Looking for a dark chocolate frosting recipe, can any one help me out?

I am looking for a dark chocolate frosting recipe that will remain creamy and not harden on the cake. I have tried several over the years and they all tend to harden to more like a candy or fudge. Thanks in advanced for any recipes any one may have. Tess

Susie answers:

Use the Special Dark cocoa (Hershey’s) in this recipe for dark choc icing:

Chocolate Buttercream Frosting

1/2 cup butter, softened
2/3 cup cocoa powder
½ tsp. Instant coffee granules
2 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups confectioners’ sugar
6-8 tablespoons water, depending upon thickness you want

With electric mixer on high, beat butter until fluffy. Beat in cocoa powder, doffee, and vanilla on low. Gradually beat in confectioners’ sugar, alternating with water, until desired thickness is achieved. For thinner frosting use more water. For thicker frosting, use less water.
————————–

Or, use dark choc in this recipe. Not unsweetened; it can still be semi- or bitter-sweet and should do wonderfully:

Chocolate Frosting

6 ounces good semisweet chocolate (recommended: Callebaut)
1/2 pound (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 extra-large egg yolk, at room temperature
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 1/4 cups sifted confectioners’ sugar
1 tablespoon instant coffee powder

Chop the chocolate and place it in a heat-proof bowl set over a pan of simmering water. Stir until just melted and set aside until cooled to room temperature.

In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, beat the butter on medium-high speed until light yellow and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Add the egg yolk and vanilla and continue beating for 3 minutes. Turn the mixer to low, gradually add the confectioners’ sugar, then beat at medium speed, scraping down the bowl as necessary, until smooth and creamy. Dissolve the coffee powder in 2 teaspoons of the hottest tap water. On low speed, add the chocolate and coffee to the butter mixture and mix until blended. Don’t whip! Spread immediately on the cooled cake.

Sandy asks…

A recipe calls for a semisweet baking chocolate bar…?

4 oz. of a semisweet baking chocolate bar. I have cocoa powder or Cadburys Royal Dark Chocolate candy bar. Which should I use as a substitute? And how much?

Thanks! Sorry to bother you all with all these questions…

Susie answers:

Use the dark chocolate in the same amount.

Michael asks…

dark chocolate “bar”?

recipe calls for a 1.55 oz. bar of milk chocolate. That’s easy – Hersheys. But, it also calls for the same thing in DARK chocolate. I looked in the baking aisle and found more milk chocolate, semi-sweet and baker’s chocolate. Is there what I would call a candy bar that is dark chocolate?

Susie answers:

Hershey’s Special Dark comes as a regular candy bar and is very good. They had them on sale this week at CVS in the 1.5 or 1.55 oz. Size (either one would be close enough!)

Helen asks…

How to make Home Made Chocolate bars?

Would someone explain how I would make a chocolate bar from scratch? How would I make a chocolate bar from a cocoa mix such as Hershey’s dark cocoa? I am interested in making my own chocolate candies without having to melt down chips. I would like to aim close to the Hershey’s Chocolate bar recipe but it dose not have to be perfect of course just has to work. (a similar end result would be good for dipping strawberries in and the chocolate would get hard after cooling) Thanks in advance.

Susie answers:

Sorry, I do not know of a chocolate that will do all of that.

Joseph asks…

Does anyone know any good recipes for chocolates?

I want to make some chocolates / candies / sweets for my friend for her birthday. Does anyone know any good recipes? If possible can they be no-bake (just using the hob or microwave) thanks.

Here are the ingredients that I have:

Sugar
syrup (Golden / maple)
icing sugar
flour
cocoa powder
dark chocolate (good quality)
100% cocoa block
butter
milk
chocolate sprinkles
drinking chocolate power
vanilla essence
peppermint essence
colourings
cornflour
coco pops

Any ideas??? thanks
um, Could you post it please (they person that sent me the link) because my computer won’t let me see the download file as it thinks it is dodgy, thanks
Sounds good Pobey, but what are saltine crackers????
Hmm, I’m guessing by the fact the guy who posted a link deleted his comment, that it was dodgy! good work computer!
I also have normal type plain biscuits.
I also have baking soda / powder, so maybe something with honeycomb???

Susie answers:

Ok… Let me think.

If you have banana, or say…. Strawberries or raspberies then you can melt the choclate, dip the fruit it, add the choclate sprinkles?

Or…

Melt the choclate, put in the coco pops, add hte vanilla essence, maybe add the sprinkles, then let it cool down, and then make a really nice cup of warm cocoa, with… Milk, LOTS of coca powder with ice-cream or cream and then… Sprinkles!! :) :)

There jsut some weird suggestions, not sure if they’re even nice!! :)
But theres lots you can do!I think you can even like ….. Spread hte syrup out on baking paper, maybe add vanilla essence? And hten you put it int he oven and it hink it should harden. Never tried, just heard!! :)

Your Questions About Chocolate Candy Bars

Maria asks…

How can I make a chocolate glaze with chocolate candy bars?

I want a glaze that will firm up, but not be hard as a rock. I’m not sure what to add to the melted chocolate bars.

Susie answers:

You will want to mix equal parts chocolate and heavy (whipping) cream. Half and half can be used in a pinch. You can even get by with milk in case of emergency. Freshly brewed coffee is another interesting alternative. Follow this method:
1) Break the chocolate into small pieces (you don’t need to melt it)
2) Put the cream in a microwave safe dish (glass measuring cup works well). Heat in microwave until it boils. (If using coffee, skip this step)
3) Put the chocolate into the cream and cover the dish. Let sit for few minutes
4) Mix thoroughly with a whisk or fork.
5) If it ends up a little to thick, reheat it and add more cream

Use the best chocolate you can. Cheap candy bars have all kinds of funny stuff in them that will make it hard to make a good glaze. Most grocery stores have some pretty good quality chocolate hiding somewhere. It’s worth paying a little extra for it when you want to do something like this.

Lizzie asks…

Can eating chocolate candy bars not let you lose weight if you’re on a diet?

I’m on a bit of a diet, especially from sugar, but I loooove chocolate. I am trying to lose 10 pounds and gan muscle, and I have been working out 3-4 times a week.

If I eat chocolate bars like once a week, will it ruin my diet? Will I not lose wight or worse gain weight? I know I sound paranoid but I am not sure…

Susie answers:

You lose weight when you consume fewer calories than you burn…you could eat nothing but candy bars and lose weight, if you kept your calorie intake lower than your calories burned (it just wouldn’t be healthy because there’s no nutrition in them)…

So, having said that (which I’m sure you already knew) a candy bar will only stall your weight loss if eating it puts you over your calorie limit for the day…if it causes you to have consumed more calories than you burned, then you’ll either maintain or gain (depending on what your calorie total was)…

What you should do, is forget the “diet” but make a lifestyle change you can stick with forever…into that, incorporate maybe 1 candybar a week as a treat…that way, you decrease the chance you’ll regain the weight you lose when you get off your ‘diet’…if you make a lifestyle change, that’s how you plan to eat indefinitely….therefore you can lose or maintain as you chose, based on your calorie intake and exercise…

Carol asks…

How do I make chocolate candy bars from Baking Cocoa?

I would like to make my own Hershey type solid candy bars from baking cocoa.
I know I can mix one part butter with 3 parts cocoa to achieve bakers chocolate. I need the rest of the recipe to achieve candy bars.

Susie answers:

Milk Chocolate, the stuff that you want to make is a blend of Chocolate, sugar and powdered milk.
It would take some experimenting to get the proper blend of cocoa, sugar, fat and powdered milk to make a “good” candy bar.
It may cost far more than it is worth to make your candy bar. But trial and error could produce some interesting and tasty “mistakes”

You could try just by starting with your base for unsweetened chocolate. Add the powdered milk at this point so you can blend it in well. Then add your sweetener. I would start by melting sugar, slowly in a heavy pan. Don’t add water so you are going to have to watch the mixture very carefully.
Add the melted sugar. Stir and allow to cool.
I do not know if you will have a problem with the chocolate setting up. Since you are working with butter the chocolate may be harder to temper.
If you try it good luck and let me know how it turned out.
Hershey, Guittard, Baker and Nestle all started somewhere didn’t they?

Helen asks…

Can I use baking chocolate to make dark chocolate candy bars?

I know dark chocolate is the healthiest kind of chocolate to eat. I just got a great deal on a bunch of baking chocolate, and was wondering if I could turn it into dark chocolate? Anyone have any ideas?

Susie answers:

Yes. You can melt it, add sugar, temper it and let it harden again. It’s a lot of trouble. Chocolate is easy to melt (if you’re careful not to overheat it) but hardening it again is not so easy. Look up ‘tempering chocolate’ in Google and you’ll see.

John asks…

Your Questions About Local Candy Stores

Robert asks…

Peanuts sell for $3 per pound at a local store. Chocolate candies sell for $6 per pound at the same store. How?

Peanuts sell for $3 per pound at a local store. Chocolate candies sell for $6 per pound at the same store. How many pounds of chocolate candies must be purchased to have a 5–pound mixture that costs $4.20 per pound?

1

2

3

4

Susie answers:

Let there be x pounds of peanuts, worth $3x
there will be 5 – x pounds of chocolate candies, worth $6(5 – x)

the final 5 pound mixture will be worth 5(4.20) = $21

these must balance

3x + 6(5 – x) = 21
3x + 30 – 6x = 21
9 = 3x
x = 3

so 3 pounds of peanuts worth 3(3) = $9
and 5 – 3 = 2 pounds of chocolate candies worth 2(6) = $12

final mixture: 5 pounds worth 5(4.2) = 9 + 12 = $21

Jenny asks…

I cannot find a certain stick candy that I used to enjoy as a kid.Does anyone remember them?

I used to buy a vanilla twisted stick candy at the local store when I was with my grandfather.(45 yrs. ago)
It had a chalky texture and all that I can think is it was some kind of meringue. I’ve looked at specialty candy shops but have had no luck. Does anyone remember them and know where I could find them?

Susie answers:

I saw some of them in Kmart this past sunday. I’m not sure where you are but, I’m in Michigan. They have a section near the check outs that has old fashion candy.

Your Questions About Candy Gifts

Ken asks…

Why do people give candy and gifts for Easter? Why Easter eggs and bunny?

I know that the eggs from hares were thought to be the ‘seed of life’ but why do we hide eggs? I was told it was because Jesus told them to ‘hide the eggs’. Is this true?

Why do people give children baskets full of candy? What does this have to do with Easter?

Susie answers:

It’s an old German custom brought to the USA by immigrants. They have the Easter Hare (not a rabbit) – more like a jack rabbit. The European hare doesn’t burrow like a rabbit but lives in the open. It makes a sort of nest on the ground to raise its young. These forms look a bit like a bird’s nest so a country myth, or joke or tease, started that hares lay eggs – you could tease children or city folk by sending them out to search for hare’s eggs..

So it’s not religious, though lots of people have made up stories about how it came into being, none of any historical value.

The eggs are connected to Christianity, or Judaism. Jews use eggs for their Passover meal and Passover is at the root of Easter. Christians used to give up eating eggs for Lent, the 6 weeks before Easter so they became a special Easter food.

Jenny asks…

What companies in Canada ship vegan candy and gifts?

I have friends in Toronto and I want to send them something from inside Canada. I just need a couple of websites that are Canadian with vegan goods.

Susie answers:

I do not know about candy, but I HIGHLY recommend www.lush.com. They have some of the BEST hand-made bath products on the planet, and they clearly mark which ones are vegan (most of them are, with a few exceptions). I can sincerely vouch that the Silky Underwear line smells FAN-freaking-TASTIC, and I LOVE the Big shampoo and Veganese conditioner. The bath bombs are also fun, and make great Valentine’s day gifts! Before you buy, do a quick Internet search for coupon codes – they almost always have some promotion going on, and they always include a free gift with every purchase. LOVE it!!!

Mary asks…

Online Where can you buy interesting unique cute ASIAN products, toys gifts, candy etc?

Asia stuff on line ? Make up, gifts, toys, books, magazines, and anything else ?

Susie answers:

David asks…

When did Easter gifts become so much more than candy in a basket?

Many parents are now buying there kids these expensive gifts like: new bikes, game systems, iPODs, etc.
Am I just old?? I was lucky to get a stuffed bunny in my candy filled basket.

What are your thoughts?

Susie answers:

Well thank heavens it isn’t only me! I noticed that too and now somewhat participate in it because I feel, to an extent, that I have to! No really big ticket items until xmas or preferably birthday but I’ve added books, action figures, and this year a video game.

When I was a kid, the prepared baskets in stores had some candy and maybe one or two stuffed animals or a yo yo or stickers. Now, go to the store and what do you see? They are all giant baskets stuffed with sports equipment, cars/trucks/planes, giant art sets, etc.

It’s the increase in consumerism and the desensitivity to stimulation. If I got one stereo and nothing else for xmas, I was through the roof with excitement. Now, if a kid gets one stereo for xmas, the attitude is “that’s it?”

If gifts are from parents, then they can be explained away by the family budget or family values. But Santa, the Easter Bunny, and the tooth fairy are supposed to be equal with limitless resources and therefore parents must do what others are doing. If Santa gives the neighbor a bike and you got a shirt/if the Easter bunny gives your classmate a Nintendo DS and you got a chocolate bunny/if the tooth fairy gives your cousin 10 dollars and you got a quarter….how would a parent explain that?

Joseph asks…

Anyone giving good quality boxes of candy for Christmas gifts this year?

We are, Joseph Schmidt candy, it’s “great”.

Susie answers:

Hershey’s pot of gold and godiva isn’t the best quality but, I will probably buy some of them to give out.

I will not buy expensive candy because I get $1 queen anne cherries back in return.. I hate those things!!
