Your Questions About Candy Gift Baskets For Him

Ken asks…

So I have been dating this guy, and he just lost his father….?

I was unable to attend the viewing and funeral because of work and then I had class. So I had a candy gift basket and card delievered to him. I know he is going through a really hard time right now, but I haven’t heard from him in 2 days? He told me thanks and everything for the basket, and told me that he could always use to company to come by anytime. So I texted him this afternoon to see if he would be home and he never responded?? I want to give him his space, but I also want him to know that I am here for him (like I have told him 20 times) but I don’t want to be smothering at ALL. So what do ya’ll think I should do??Wait for him to call or just back off??
No I haven’t met his family except for his brother. That’s why I didn’t make a big deal about going to the funeral and stuff. So do you think he was just telling me to come over to be nice b/c I sent him that basket? Because I don’t think I should just stop by without hearing from him first b/c he does live like 20 minutes away. So back off until I hear from him??

Susie answers:

I’m really sorry to hear that. That is very life changing, and he may need a lot of space.. But stick it out and when he needs you he will let you know. Continue to assure him you are always there for him and support him whenever he asks.
He should gradually start to make contact with you as time goes by so be patient.. And keep texting/calling him daily (just don’t do it more than 2xs).. Always stay positive and just kinda brighten up his day.. Best wishes.

Helen asks…

should i be mad at my boyfriend?

Im not a materialistic person, but the boy ive been dating for almost a year did not get me anything for valentines day.. he goes to school in boston and im in new york but all he had to do was send me a card or anything would have been nice! I had ordered him a candy gift basket, nothing big.. im pretty sure it didnt arrive at his dorm yet but still, at least i attempted to do something for the holiday. what are your opinions.. he did text me and said happy valentines day i love you and miss you .. am i overreacting? thanks!!

Susie answers:

I would be a little upset but not too upset considering he texted you. I mean calling would have even made it a bit better but if he is super busy then being super mad and bitchy would not be fair to him. He will probably feel bad when he gets the candy basket and will say something about it. Don’t beat yourself or him up girlfriend.

Daniel asks…

Christmas/Bday Presents for bf and Xmas gift for his family?

My boyfriends birthday is comming up in december, its on the 11th. I kind of don’t know what i could get him for his birthday and then something for christmas. We’ve been going out for almost 2 years

I was thinking about an electric shaver? but then what about xmas..ne ideas?

And his family always gives me sooo many xmas presents that i dont even kno what to get them. Last year i just made them a gift basket with candy and chocolates and soap and almost everything. Ne ideas?

Tnx tons.
My bf is really into stuff like music and guitars and drums and cars and stuff…

I dont have enough to spend 600 dollars on amps and stuff…last year i bought him strings and straps etc.

Other than that, he isnt really into sports or ne thing at all.

Susie answers:

Ask your boyfriend for gift sugestions concerning his family. He should have a good idea of what they’d like/need.

Providing your boyfriend is a typical guy, buy yourself something from victoria’s secret, get a case of his favorite beverage and make his favorite meal (if cooking is not your strong suit take out food will fool most of us). Surprise him with all three when he walks in the door. We guys really are that simple to please.

Cheers and good luck

Jenny asks…

What should I get my fiance for Christmas?

We have been together for a little over two years. In the past, I’ve given him a gift basket with gift cards and candy, cologne, stuffed animals, and letters.
Money is tight, and I only have about $70 to spend on him.
I would like to make him something..
He is spending Christmas with me this year, so he will get this Christmas morning.
Thanks!

Susie answers:

I work at Macy’s and know for a fact that you can do well with only $70. You can get him a nice wallet (by guess or polo) for like $30. A nice looking watch for around $20 that leaves plenty for a card, candy and a gift bag. For the candy go to Walmart. They always have a huge selection of candy on the cheap.

Sandra asks…

I’m probably asking the wrong crowd here but BLUE wrappered black licorice flavored candy?

This item was popular in the 60s and early 70s and likely the late 50s. It had a light to medium blue (almost a sky blue) wrapper with the text written in white, though there is a slight possibilty that the text was in black. It was some type of black licorice flavored candy. My dad ate it when he was a kid. He hates most candy now but once, ten or so years ago, they came out with a short nostalgic revival of this candy. I have a memory of him with it in his hand. I want to find that candy for him, for a birthday gift basket. Any ideas? I’m pretty sure I’m asking the wrong crowd but I thought I would try.
It may have been Black Jack, but my memory wants me to believe it was a candy not a gum. Memory is a difficult thing. I just don’t think I’m going to win with this particular one. Also, I believe the letter J was involved. I really don’t believe it is black jack!

Susie answers:

It sounds more like the licorice chewing gum we ate back in the 50′s called Blackjack. It came in a sky blue pack and you could never just chew one piece. We also had Clove chewing gum that was pretty good too!

Your Questions About Candyland

Mary asks…

Candyland?

How many Candy land board games are made each year?
-Optional: Biography of Eleanor Abbott (creator)

Susie answers:

A guess would be tens of thousands.

Nancy asks…

candyland!!!?

Who else here misses CANDY LAND!! the absolute best game ever!! Share some memories here….

Susie answers:

Oh I certainly do. When I was a kid it was the most fun game to play. But now the new version isn’t like the fun old version at all. I remember aspiring to be like Queen Frosty. She was always the prettiest on the board. My sister would always get mad at me if I picked up that card when she had just picked up the plum tree or something that would take her to the beginning again…We used to fight over who would get to be her when we grew up. Fun times!

Steven asks…

How to dress at a candyland themed party?

Sadies is coming up and the theme is candyland. I’m going with my friends, its just going to be us girls. And i don’t know how should i dress that is cheap. There is 5 of us and i was thinking each of us would be a different type of candy but idk how? Anyone have any ideas that are cute and cheap?

Susie answers:

Candyland is all about fun and bright colours, so wear something bright and springy. Wear baby colours, each person a different type, or just wear something bright. Make it fun!

Bye!

Maria asks…

Is there a website or something to print out the Candyland board game cards?

My family has a tradition to play candyland around christmas time, but i lost all the cards. I tried google, but there wasn’t anything there really. So i was looking for a place that i could print out the cards and cut them out. I would make my own but i don’t remember what there are.

Susie answers:

Hasbro will sell spare parts to you. Go to www.hasbro.com and click “Customer Service.”

James asks…

Do have any ideas or suggestions for Candyland?

We are doing a life-size Candyland for the community this October 31st. This will be our 3rd year doing this. This year will be the biggest yet. We are holding it at community gym. I need ideas or suggestions of how to make the floor pieces and life-size gumdrops. In the past, for the floor pieces we used floor tiles (ppl would trip over them, some cracked, and because we painted them, the paint would peel off) and cardboard (after the paint dries, the board warps. We taped them to the floor to prevent slipping. The taped ruins the floor). As for gumdrops, we just never used any. So does anyone have ideas or suggestions? We want to try and make the props ourselves.

Susie answers:

I like mliz55′s ideas about painting thick fabric or a sheet of vinyl flooring (check out what type of paint you’d need to hold well on vinyl, or on fabric … Or you could apply squares of glued-on colored paper to either of those.

For gumdrops, would they be on people who were acting as the pieces, or would they be stand-alone?
If you want to use these pieces more than once, storing them would be a problem unless you could stack them or collapse them, etc.

If there were gumdrop people, each could just wear a sparkly pastel fabric, gathered around the neck, then billowed out to hips or to the floor.
The billow could come from wadded paper (warning: wadding that many takes a long time… BTDT), or plastic bags, or from blown up balloons, or foam, or even from a metal tomato cage or other lightweight wire structure made from chicken wire –or made the way they used to do the undergarment part of “hoop” skirts** (these would collapse nicely for storage.

If the gum drops are to be stand-alone and moved around, you could go with papier mache*** over a wire form or tomato cage or a pillow or a cardboard cylinder cut and tapered at the top end, etc…. It might be good to place a small handle or hand-hold for people to move these around so they won’t get easily damaged. Then cover with sparkly fabric or pastel paint then a coat of diluted white glue with lots of cheap glitter in it. Make sure the shapes are pretty much the same so they could be stacked nicely for storage.

** for the hoop-skirt undergarment shape, the top of it would be a strong-fabric strip or draw string, etc. (around neck)… Then from that would hang several ever-larger wire hoops (or stiff “boning” strips) which would be hung from the previous hoop by vertical strings or other strips of fabric
…here are a few examples to give you the general idea, but you would NOT have to use as many “rings” and would NOT have use *fabric between* the hoops (just tape or string, etc.)

***for a stronger and quicker papier mache material than strips of paper, you could use the larger clothlike “shop towels” on a roll (look like paper towels, but they’re blue and thicker) that you can buy in automotive depts or stores.
Those soak up the glue well, drape well, and a single pieces can cover a lot of space at one time . . . Or you could just use a large piece of porous fabric soaked in the diluted white glue (like Elmer’s GlueAll)
