Erm well it doesn’t really matter if you’re a musician. Get the watch if you like it and if it looks good on you. I think the green one is pretty cool.

Mandy asks…

which j’s should i get?

Ok its between the retro 2 candy pack red, or the retro 6 oreo, idk like them both just seeing what other ppl thought thanks, oh and most of the shirts/hats i wear are red, black, and white

Your Questions About Sugar Free Candy Atkins

Laura asks…

I’m on atkins, can I have sugar-free candy. Label says all the carbs are from sugar alcohols.?

Does that mean I could count it as no carbs.

Susie answers:

Atkins sucks.
My dad lost a lot of weight on Atkins, but now he has to take medicine for high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Don’t do that to yourself.
Any diet that forbids some kind of food is just wrong. Your body needs carbs. Not white sugar, white pasta, rice, bread and such, but good carbs.

Joseph asks…

Are sugar-free cookies and snacks okay to eat during the induction phase of the Atkins diet?

I have been on the Atkins diet for 4 days now and I wanted to know if I can eat sugar-free snacks (ice cream, cookies, candy, etc.) during the induction phase.

If I do eat that, would it slow my results or change my results?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Susie answers:

NO. Sugar-free cookies are high in carbohydrates. On the Atkins Diet you are supposed to eat meat, fish, and other proteins, and avoid breads, cereals, chips, crackers, pasta, and above all baked goods like cookies and cake. It isn’t just the sugar which gets turned to fat, it is the carbs which get turned into fat and stored on your body.

The fact that they are “sugar-free” means they used sugar alcohol, which racks havok on your liver, especially if you are older and have type 2 diabetes.

If you are going to eat sugar-free snacks then forget about going Atkins. You are cutting back on fat produced from carbohydrates, only to load up on carbs from other sources.

If you are aiming to lose weight and reduce your fat stored on your stomach, legs, and and arms then you need to avoid most carbohydrates. Eat meat, vegetables, and fruit.

It is very hard to give up bread, pasta, cereals, cookies, and cake, and reduce your intake of dairy products like milk, ice cream, and cheese. If you don’t, it won’t only slow your results, it can cancel or reverse your results.

Try reducing your portions of food, eating a big breakfast, small lunch and small dinner. Don’t snack while watching television. Don’t eat after 6PM. Exercise for at least 30 minutes daily or at least 3 times a week, by walking or jogging, or bicycling.

Good book is Diet by Blood Type. Depending on your blood type, Atkins might NOT work for you. Type O, and Type B can go Atkins. Type A blood doesn’t go good with Atkins life style.

Another good diet is the Zone Diet. This is based on different combinations of foods in small portions more than three times a day. This is good if you like to snack. Certain foods when combined like Meat and fruit create too much acid in your blood, which isn’t healthy.

There is a unlimited abundance of diet information. You have to find a system or combination of systems which work for your metabolism.

Mark asks…

are sugar alcohols the same as carbs on the atkins diet?

i’m on the atkins diet and i want a candy sooooo bad and it’s sugar free but the carbs has 28 and those are sugar alcohols. is that the same as regular carbs and will it ruin my diet or are they okay to eat?

Susie answers:

The number of carbs are the same but you can deduct the grams of fiber.. So if its 12 grams of carbs and 5 grams of dietary fiber.. Its only 7 net carbs. Wow.. 28 is a lot of carbs for sugar free.. I dont know where you live but if you have Trader Joes by you. .they have a great sugar free chocolate.

James asks…

Atkins diet phase 1 (induction)…?

I’m starting the phase 1 of the atkins diet tomorrow, but I just wanted to know could a person eat chicken with the skin on it (obviously if it was baked or grilled). I know boneless skinless would be ideal, but I just want to know if I had to could I eat a bone in chicken breast with skin.

Also, is there any kind of sugar-free gum or hard candy a person could have in the induction phase? I can’t believe a piece of sugar-free gum has 2 carbs, but maybe there is a kind that doesn’t?

Also any tips on this phase would be greatly appreciated :)

Susie answers:

With bones, skin, anyway you like it. Make sure your meal includes additional fat (mayo is good) fattier cuts of meat are encouraged. I would skip gum with carbs. You can have sugar free gelatin or sugar free cheesecake. Liquid sucralose or saccharin usually have no carbs (the powdered stuff usually adds dextrose).

You will lose more body fat eating protein and fat (don’t eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast eat all you want but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter and half an avocado a day (you’ll need added potassium). Keep the calories high and the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Adding in green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.

Your body won’t release fat stores if you lower calories below what it needs. It will slow your metabolism to compensate and store every spare ounce as fat. If you continue lowering your calories, it will continue lowering that set point, til you can survive off nothing and store fat on anything. The body will only release it’s fat stores if it knows there is plenty of food.

Eating carbs while trying to lose body fat is terribly inefficient. When in glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) you have to lower your calories (which slows your metabolism) and exercise heavily to deplete your glycogen stores before burning body fat.

The core of the Atkins program is converting your body from glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) to ketosis (burning fat as fuel). You need to keep your fat levels at >65% of your calories, if you don’t your body will still remain in glycolysis by converting 58% of excess protein into glucose (via gluconeogenesis).

It takes minimum of 3 days to convert your body to ketosis, (but only one bite to convert back to glycolysis) you will probably feel sluggish the first week but most people feel better than ever thereafter.

Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) triggers insulin which can store the calories you eat into fat. The more protein you eat the more the fat burning hormone glucagon is released. The more carbohydrate you eat the more the fat storage hormone insulin is released.

Simple carbs are addictive and can be disastrous to our health. The best way to break the addiction is NO carbs for 3 days. Make a huge batch of deviled eggs and eat one every time you want “something” have huge omelets for breakfast, with bacon, a lil onion, peppers, mushrooms & cheese. Pork chops for lunch. Get pork rinds and eat them with tuna salad. Steak for dinner. Make a huge sugar free cheese cake for dessert. Eat so much you won’t feel deprived of anything. By the fourth day, your addiction will be gone and you can start making healthy choices.

High insulin levels promote inflammation, weight gain, hunger and unbalance other hormones. Controlling your insulin level will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so you will gain lean muscle even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase your muscle mass with high HGH levels.

Ground flax seed (2 Tbsp) 1/4 cup of water, cinnamon, artificial sweetener, mix in a raw egg – let sit 10 min to absorb liquid, put some cream cheese in the middle and nuke for 1.5 min. For hot cereal or 2 min. For more of a muffin type thing. Great low carb, high fiber treat. Suggested for daily fiber needs.

The first 2 weeks you can have several cups a day of (mostly) lettuce and celery, cucumbers, radishes, mushrooms, peppers and more variety of vegetables thereafter add 5 grams per day additional (20 grams day first 2 weeks, 25grams 3rd week, 30grams 4th week etc) every week til you gain weight, then you subtract 10 carbs. That would give you your personal carb level (everyone is different and it depends on how active you are.) As long as you remain <9 carbs per hour, you will maintain insulin control, and shouldn't gain weight.

Many people gain weight on high carb, then switch to low carb to lose weight & then are shocked when they return to high carb that they gain weight. Many people can return to moderate carb levels but very few can really eat all they want of sugar and maintain weight or health.

Dr.Atkins was a cardiologist, low carb was a health plan easier sold as a "diet" Read any of his books for easily understandable science. Normalizing blood pressure, blood sugar, insulin, cholesterol, triglyercerides and hormone levels are all bonus features of doing a low carb way of eating. Lutz "Life without Bread" & Taubes "Good calories, Bad calories" are excellent books that dispel all the nutrition myths.

Reducing body fat and increasing muscle mass will have you in awesome shape in no time. Good luck!

Paul asks…

eat healthy food everyday?

How did you develop you current nutritional habits?
Every individual has different nutritional habits some choose to eat healthy and some choose to eat unhealthy but the different between them is something individual are unaware. I hardly eat junks food even though they are the best things and really delicious I would love to have junks food but I don’t get time to eat. In the morning I usually have tea with a bread or cookies or probably nothing and for lunch I will have some sort of salad in school and when I go home I eat rice, chicken, vegetable anything my sister or my mom have cooked for me. Then I have to have something in the evening like fruits or juice because I usually work out in the evening so I need to have fruit or something to drink healthy and then I eat twice at night because I am awake for longer time so I need to eat and keep myself full my dinner is usually the same as lunch nothing really different unfortunately. I have developed this habit because I have been doing this for longer time and it was through my parents they cause me eat this many times but now they regret of making my habit that way because I finish everything at home.

What is the relationship of food to health?
Relationship to food to health is really big the way people act, talk or looks like really appears of what you take in to your stomach. Changes in our understanding of diet and health drive changes in the way foods are processed. On the other hand, what is available on the shelf will have an impact on the choices consumers make, thereby affecting their health. Studies have indicated that nutritional factors do contribute to the development of some of these diseases. After eating contaminated food, people can develop anything from a short, mild illness, often mistakenly referred to as “food poisoning,” to life-threatening disease. Right food can make you appear healthier physically mentally and emotionally. so choosing the right food is very important.

What are the health problems that might occur from bad diet decisions?
There is many health problems that can occur from bad diet decisions such as Eating junk food during pregnancy could have a bigger impact on childhood obesity, liver disease and diabetes. Almost one-third of children aged six to 19 and 12 per cent of infants in the United States are overweight, according to a National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, and obesity is now the most prevalent nutritional disease of children and adolescents in the US. ” A high-fat diet in the womb may also affect the “appetite centre” of the brain. Also eating a lot of trans fats that contain partially hydrogenated oil probably increases the risk of heart disease. some diet also effects your breathe which many people are unaware of it such as Low-carb diets may be good for your waistline, but you might not be able to say the same for your breath. Bad breath in the low/no-carb sect is often caused by certain chemicals that are released in the breath as the body burns fat. They are called ketones, and entering into a fat-burning state of ketosis is the hallmark of the Atkins diet. It’s a difficult problem to solve because if one uses any sucking candy or lozenge, one has to be careful that it has no sugar in it
Why is permanent weight control best achieved by the combination of diet and exercise?
When you eat healthy food and exercise you remain in shape and controlled and away from obesity that you might get from junks. You are much more healthier then the rest of other who choose to eat unhealthy food for there dinner, lunch and breakfast as you exercise you burn off your calories and fats which leads you to remain much more healthier then others. Your heart is healthier you remain free from being obese and any other physical or mental disease that might occur. You are just doing yourself a favor and minimize a lot of health issues and when you take in healthy food inside you remain healthy you feel better and lighter and just happier believe it or not eating healthy food really effects your brain and pressurize your mind in a healthier way.

It is good to eat nutritiously everyday….. You feel better, have more energy throughout the day, and feel happier all over……

John asks…

Black colored candy for halloween dish!?

I’m making a halloween spider dessert, BUT I do not want to use black licorice because it isn’t a fan favorite. Any ideas of another candy that is black and can be used as legs for a candy spider??

Susie answers:

If you take black jube jubes or black gum drops and roll them out flat with a rolling pin (use a sprinkle of icing sugar to stop them from sticking to the table and rolling pin) you can then cut them into thin strips to use as the legs. I would think the gum drops would work best because they are a bit more pliable. Just make sure, which ever one you use, they are fresh.

My mother used to roll out pink and green spearmint leaf candies the same way when we were growing up and she would form them into candy roses for birthday cakes. The same technique (above) should work perfectly for your spider legs.

Your Questions About Valentine Candy Crafts

Joseph asks…

Valentine Crafts for Teens :) ?

Hey, :)
So Uhh, im 15 and my school is doing quite a bit of Valentines Day Celebrating. We have a lot of things going on, we have matchmakers, a dance, decorations and Candy Grams (You pay 50 cents to have something special sent to someone special).
I’m one of the leadership students and I wanted to make cute accessories to go with the whole Valentines Day Bonanza.
Do you have any cute ideas? I’m a fairly crafty person and I sew a lot.
I thought of maybe heart earrings or a ribbon necklace or even fabric heart pins for my hair, but I was wondering if anybody had any other ideas or maybe even a website.
Thank you :)

Susie answers:

The earring hearts and hair clips with hearts or bows with hearts or ribbon with hearts sound like easy projects and everyone has ears and hair.

Betty asks…

Ideas wanted for Valentines gifts / crafts?

I’d like to make a Valentine‘s gift for my hubby. Iv previously baked heart-shaped cup cakes and given sweetie (candy) parcels with love tokens but I cant think of what to do this year….Can you help?

Thanks

Susie answers:

Last year i made him a promise box. I got a heart shapped box from the pound/doller store and filled it with promises for that day. I put in a candle with the promise of a ‘candle lit meal’ that i had waiting for him when he got home, also a small bottle of bath oil with the promise of running him a nice hot bath and other thing which i wont mention cos they are abit rude! Lol. But you can put what you want in. I got some free tickets to a comedy show which i put in for after the meal.
I also did silly things like when i made his sandwiches for work i cut them into heart shapes and included a heart shapped chocolate lolly in his lunch box and his favourite soft drink which is hard to find where we live. I also stuck heart shapped post it notes in places like his work tool box for him to find during the day to remind him i loved him. I also made a scrapbook for him and put down reasons why i loved him in it. Oh and i baked a cake to and iced sloppy messeges on it.
I have also (not on valentines) promised a night under the stars but cos its still cold i got some glow in the dark stars which you can stick on the ceiling and i packed a picnic and threw a blanket on the living room floor and we ‘picnicked’ under the stars.

Carol asks…

homemade Valentine cards for preschool class?

DS will be exchanging Valentine cards in his preschool class. I would love for him to make his own cards and maybe stick a small candy treat on (or not, it doesn’t matter).

Any ideas? Most of the things I find on the internet are just printables but I want a real craft for him to do. BTW, he is almost 5 and good with glue and scissors and stickers, etc.

Thanks so much for your ideas.

Susie answers:

One year my younger sister made heart shaped cards for ger class.. Soo cute and every one loved them
She just took a big red poster board cut ouy hearts.. Then took a hole puncher thingy.. And punched holes out around the edges. Then wrote cute little messages on them with black marker. Then took pink ribbon and thread it around the edges… You can always just give them candy.. Or even attack a sucker on the heart!
They were very cute,, and personal!

Jenny asks…

fourth grade classroom valentine party ideas? activities etc?

Does anyone have any good/fun ideas for valentine‘s day activities/games/crafts for 4th graders?
Can not involve candy :(

Susie answers:

- Make flowers for their Valentine: Color coffee filters with washable markers. Spray with a water bottle until colors start to run. Once dry, stack a few coffee filters on top of each other, then pinch the middle and secure with a green pipe cleaner.

- Play games like checkers with plastic or paper hearts as game pieces

- Learn how to say “I Love You” in different languages

- Create a Valentine’s Day themed word search or crossword puzzle (just Google for a template, there are tons of them available)

Hope this helps!

Your Questions About Christmas Candy

Lisa asks…

Christmas candy?

What is your favorite Christmas candy? If you don’t mind, will you post the recipe? Thanks in advance.

Susie answers:

Divinity Recipe

2 2/3 C. Sugar
2/3 C. Light corn syrup
1/2 C. Water
2 egg whites
1 t. Vanilla
2/3 C. Coarsely chopped nut

Cook sugar, corn syrup and water (use 1 tablespoon less water on humid days) in 2-quart saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly, until sugar is dissolved. Continue cooking, without stirring, to 260° F. On candy thermometer or until small amount of mixture dropped into very cold water forms a hard ball that holds its shape but is pliable.

Beat egg whites in medium bowl with electric mixer on high speed until stiff peaks form. Continue beating while pouring hot syrup in a thin stream into egg whites, beating constantly on medium speed. (For best results, use electric stand mixer, not a portable handheld mixer since beating time is about 10 minutes and mixture is thick.) Add vanilla. Beat until mixture holds its shape and becomes slightly dull. (Mixture may become too stiff for mixer.) Gently stir in nuts.

Drop mixture from buttered spoon onto waxed paper. Let stand at room temperature at least 12 hours, turning candies over once, until candies feel firm. Store in airtight container.

Thomas asks…

Christmas Candy?

Has anyone given you homemade X-mas candy? Did you enjoy receiving it as a gift?
I usually make candy and give it out to friends that I don’t exchange gifts with and they always seen happy to get it and compliment me on it later but I wonder if they really are sincere?

Susie answers:

Take those compliments, dear! I am certain they are sincere…I never say anything unless I really like something homemade. You must be a good candy maker!

James asks…

What is your favorite candy at Christmas time or any time?

What is your favorite candy at Christmas time and why do do you like it.My favorite kind of candy is kit kats because they taste real good because they have sugar in it and that is not my favorite Christmas candy so you can choose.

Susie answers:

Candy canes (peppermint) that’s if I get any at all :)

Maria asks…

When do you start Christmas Candy making?

In years past I have waited until a few days before Christmas to start mine then Im rushed and exhausted for Christmas. And this year I will have to mail a few off and want them to get there on time..I know alot will store well in the fridge…But when is a safe time to start so the candy will not be too stale by Christmas.

Susie answers:

We make cookies and candy every year. I start at the first of the month or right after Thanksgiving. Chocolate keeps for a long time so no worries there, same with hard tac candies. Cookies you can freeze. Makes life so much easier to have things done so you can enjoy the days right before Christmas. I have frozen cookies, pies and cakes with no problems.

Your Questions About Easter Candy Recipes

Jenny asks…

I would like to know how to prepare canadian chocolate candy bar. Can anybody help me?

Hi, I’m brazilian and I’m looking for canadian chocolate bars and easter eggs recipes. Could you help me?

Susie answers:

The G-Bomb Chocolate Candy Bar

1 (24-ounce) bag chocolate chips
5 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 (24-ounce) bag pretzel sticks (recommended: Snyder Old Fashioned Dipping Sticks)
1 1/2 cups skinless hazelnuts
3 tablespoons powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Put the chocolate chips in a bowl and place the bowl over a pot of simmering water. Stir until the chips are melted. (Alternately, put the chips in a microwave safe bowl and microwave on medium for 30 seconds. Stir and microwave in 30 second intervals until the chocolate has melted. It should take 2 to 3 minutes.) Add 3 tablespoons of the vegetable oil and stir well.
To form the base, dip two pretzel sticks in the chocolate and lay them side by side on a waxed paper-lined baking sheet. Repeat until you have 24 bases made. Put the baking sheet into the refrigerator to harden the chocolate. Pour the remaining chocolate into a squeeze bottle.

Meanwhile, add the hazelnuts, sugar, and vanilla to the bowl of a food processor. With the machine running, pour in the remaining 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Continue processing until the nuts form a smooth spread. Scoop the spread into a plastic bag and snip off a corner to make a piping bag. Remove the bases from the refrigerator and pipe a strip of hazelnut spread between each pair of chocolate covered pretzels. Squeeze chocolate over the top of each one to cover and return the baking sheet to the refrigerator for at least 1 hour. Trim off any excess chocolate with a knife and wrap each bar individually. Keep refrigerated.

Sharon asks…

I’m looking for a recipe for something sweet for Easter?

I want to take something to my boyfriend’s family Easter dinner. They usually have a couple different pies, a cheesecake and an angel food cake. Can you suggest a good cookie or bar recipe, or maybe a candy covered apple slice recipe?

Susie answers:

How about a 4-day coconut cake?
It’s easy!

Mix 2 cups sour cream with 1 cup sugar and 24oz. Of grated coconut, and let stand for 24 hours.

Bake a white, french vanilla, or yellow cake (from a box mix), let cool, then split the 2 layers, so you have 4 round layers.

Put the coconut mixture between the layers, then frost the top and sides, then put into the refrigerator, covered by a bowl or cake cover that won’t touch the icing on the cake, and let stand for 3 MORE DAYS in the fridge.

You can’t cut into this cake until the 3 days pass, so start making the cake 4 days ahead so it is ready. Easy easy and good.

I must warn you, it is a little “ugly” looking, but very good.

William asks…

I am looking for a creamy peppermint easter egg recipe.?

I’d like to make peppermint easter eggs this year. I am looking for a recipe that doesn’t call for using peppermint candies. I want a recipe that calls for using peppermint extract, so that the egg is creamy. I can’t find one. Does anyone have one they could share with me?

Susie answers:

I think this is what you are looking for:

Peppermint Easter Eggs

INGREDIENTS:

1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 can (14-ounce size) sweetened condensed milk (Not evaporated milk)
1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
2 drops red food coloring
9 cups sifted confectioners’ sugar
20 crushed peppermint candies
1 package (24-ounce size) vanilla-flavored candy coating or confectioners’ coating
Purchased tubes of decorating icings

With mixer, beat butter and salt in large bowl. Gradually beat in milk, peppermint extract and food coloring. Gradually beat in 6 cups confectioners’ sugar. With spoon stir in as much of the remaining sugar as you can. Stir in crushed candies.

Turn onto surface dusted with additional confectioners’ sugar. Gradually knead in enough of the remaining confectioners’ sugar to make a smooth, easy-to-shape mixture.

Divide into quarters. Shape each quarter into 10 eggs (each about 2 inches long and 1 to 1 1/2 inches wide). Place eggs on waxed-paper-lined baking sheets: cover and chill for 4 hours or until firm.

In large saucepan, melt candy coating over low heat, stirring constantly. To coat each egg, insert fork into bottom of chilled egg and dip into warm candy coating; let excess coating drip off.

Place on waxed-paper-lined baking sheets; let stand until firm. Decorate as desired with purchased icings. Store covered at room temperature or in refrigerator.

I think I want to make these too!

2 lg. Bags semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 tsp. Salt
2 sticks butter, melted

Mix all ingredients together. Roll mixture into small bite size balls. Chill for about 30 minutes. Melt one slab of paraffin. Mix in 2 large bags of semi- sweet chocolate chips. Keep in double boiler over hot water. Dip balls in chocolate. Lay on waxed paper. Put in airtight container. Store in refrigerator.

Lisa asks…

Is it possible to make italian easter bread with chocolate eggs?

I want to make this italian easter bread with the eggs inside it, but the idea of having sweet bread and eggs just doesn’t work well for me.
Can I use those candy shell eggs with chocolate inside instead?

Any links or recipes welcome

Your Questions About Divinity 2

Maria asks…

divinity 2 the game what do you think?

im saving up to buy divinity 2 the game for xbox 360 and i want to know what others think of the game. im the type of guy who does a bit of research to see if the game is interesting or not. so far im liking it what about you?

Susie answers:

I just bought the game yesterday! Dude, this game is AWESOME! I played through the entire night! (I slept the next day at 8am) It’s THAT engrossing! The character avatars have high customization and the freedom in development is fantastic! Not to mention that the story is engrossing as well! And I haven’t even gone to the part where I become a dragon, yet! I’d even go as far and say that this game is better than Dragon Age Origins just by playing 8 hours of both for the first time! BUY IT!

Sandra asks…

divinity 2 the dragon knight saga game content?

Planning to buy for my little brother, would like to know what type of content is in it. E.G nudity, gore and violence. Not looking for anything other than info here so keep it to that only. 10 points to most detailed answer

Susie answers:

Hope this helps.this isn’t out in the us yet,but as far as i have read there isn’t any nudity, just lots of gore and violence like divinity 2 itself.

Joseph asks…

Can anyone suggest me game like Dragon Age or Divinity 2?

Newer games please.

Susie answers:

Oblivion, its kinda old, but if you havnt played it, its magnificent. Or two worlds 2.

David asks…

Can you get Divinity 2 for PS3?

I got Divinity 2 for my computer but my graphics card can’t handle it… i was wondering if you can get it for PS3 can anyone help me?

Susie answers:

No it is only for PC and xbox 360.

Lisa asks…

divinity 2 dragon knight saga vs first divinity 2?

I Played the Demo for divinity 2 i liked the game play but the graphics were kinda bad not the worst but not the greatest. I wanted to know whats different about dragon knight saga are the graphics better, game play changed and is it a good game all around. I am a RPG gamer and its hard to find good RPGs now. All the top rated RPGS are for some reason FPS or have similar game play witch i don’t like :P

Susie answers:

It’s Divinity 2 with the expansion pack included, an overhauled interface and a few added features. The better value will be Dragon Knight Saga but it’ll be full retail again.

Your Questions About Chocolate Candy

Helen asks…

Chocolate Candy???

Does anybody know the name of the chocolate candy that is chocolate and has nuts in it and comes in a fancy gold wrapper and you can get it at all the main Grocery stores.

Susie answers:

Ferrero Rocher!

John asks…

Whats the best way to decorate chocolate candy?

Im going to be making some chocolate candy suckers this week, And ill be using the chocolate melts from michaels, and some clear chocolate candy molds. But I dont want them to be one color. I want to put in the details with a bunch of different colors. And Im wondering what would be the best way to do this? Ive looked all over online and Cant find anything anywhere on candy decorating 101.
I thought possibly brushing different colors into the mold first, then pouring the base chocolate over that, but then wondered if it would melt the brushed chocolate back in with the other, and it would all go to waste?
And also, I want skin tone colored chocolate. How would I go about getting that?

Help Please?

Susie answers:

You can buy white chocolate candy melts (or almond bark) and use food coloring to dye it whatever color you want. You might test out the colors first by melting and coloring just a little bit at a time. For skin colored, I would use the white chocolate with the milk chocolate, adding the darker as you stir until it’s the color you want.

If you freeze the bottom layer of chocolate completely, adding in the next layer won’t melt the bottom. It takes longer, but it sounds like it will look really good!

Charles asks…

What is the difference between chocolate “candy melts” and regular chocolate?

What exactly is the difference between the chocolate candy melts (like Wilton) and real chocolate? I notice that the candy melts don’t taste the same as regular chocolate.

Susie answers:

Winton is not real chocolate, it’s a candy or confectioners coating. Real chocolate is cocoa butter based while the Winton candy melts are vegetable oil based. The cocoa butter is what makes the big difference in taste. A lot of hobbyists think they are using real chocolate when the are doing their holiday candies with “candy melts”, but real chocolate requires tempering and very careful temperature control, were as confectioners coating (like the melts) can be just melted and used.

Susan asks…

how do I make chocolate candy with sugarless sweeteners?

I want to buy unsugared bakers chocolate and add aspertane or other artificial sweetener to make chocolate candy, and where can I get moulds?

Susie answers:

You can buy them from Wilton’s. Here’s the site

http://www.wilton.com/store/site/index.cfm

Paul asks…

How is vegan chocolate candy bars made and where can the products be found?

My wife is allergic to dairy based products. She tried a vegan chocolate candy bar and liked every bite with no side effects. She loves to cook and bake and for our anniversary I would like to get the information for her so she could enjoy both the baking and eating. Please help.

Susie answers:

Whole Foods stores sell fairly many Vegan products. You could try to contact someone at the store.

Ruth asks…

Can you melt Hersheys special dark and dip candies and pretzels in it that will dry?

Is there something I need to add to the chocolate while I melt it ?

Susie answers:

It should work. Put the pretzels in the fridge or freezer right after you dip em’ in chocolate so the chocolate will set right away.

James asks…

What kind of candy am I thinking of?

There’s these candies I got for christmas that were amazing, I just cant remembe the name. They came in a red wrapper and were milk chocolate with a soft center. I believe the name started with an ‘L’ and something about, “once you bite into them the chocolate will melt and you will begin to also”? I can’t quite remember. There is also dark and white chocolate ones. I also believe they are sold at Target. thanks for the help

Susie answers:

They are Lindt chocolate truffles. They are awesome. You can buy them at walmart, Eckerd Drugs, CVS, Target.

Nancy asks…

How to make frosting with only these ingrediants?

Sugar, milk and butter? (:

and dark chocolate maybe? like the little candy ones, could i melt them in or anything?

Susie answers:

Cream 100grams butter and 80grams of sugar
add an egg if you have one mix till light and fluffy
add 30 grams of melted chocolate mix through
chill for half an hour
works as frosting very well
if you add 200grams of plain flour to this you also get chocolate pastry

Susie answers:

Melting Chocolate to Use as Recipe Ingredient

Chopped chocolate bars used
for melting.

For most recipes, you can melt chocolate using one of three methods: direct heat, a double boiler, or a microwave oven. You can also use one of these methods when a recipe calls for melting chocolate with another ingredient, such as butter, shortening, or whipping cream.

For best results, coarsely chop chocolate bars and squares before melting them.

Choose one of the following methods to melt your chocolate.

Direct heat: This method is easy and convenient. Place the chocolate in a heavy saucepan over very low heat, stirring constantly till the chocolate begins to melt. Immediately remove the pan from the heat and stir the chocolate until it is smooth.

Double boiler: This method takes a little longer than the direct-heat method but eliminates the possibility of scorching the chocolate. Place water in the bottom of the double boiler so the top of the water is 1/2 inch below the upper pan. Then place the double boiler over low heat. Stir the chocolate constantly until it is melted. The water in the bottom of the double boiler should not come to boiling while the chocolate is melting.

Microwave oven: Place up to 6 ounces of chopped chocolate bars, chocolate squares, or chocolate pieces in a microwave-safe bowl, custard cup, or measuring cup. Microwave, uncovered, on high for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes or until chocolate is soft enough to stir smooth. The chocolate will hold its shape after it starts to melt, so stir it once every minute during heating.

Whichever method you use, remember these points:

Make sure all equipment is completely dry. Any moisture on the utensils or in the container may cause the chocolate to seize, or stiffen. If this happens, stir in 1/2 to 1 teaspoon shortening (not butter) for every ounce of chocolate.

Be careful to keep water from splashing into the chocolate. A single drop will cause the chocolate to seize.

Keep heat low to avoid scorching.

Always stir chocolate during melting, because most chocolate retains its shape as it melts.

Your Questions About Local Candy Stores

William asks…

Is fudge supposed to be hard?

I got some fudge from a local candy store for Christmas, but it’s rather hard and kind of crispy. I haven’t had fudge in awhile, though it’s always a nice treat… but I don’t remember it being nearly this hard?

Susie answers:

That’s the old fashioned cooked style fudge. It used to all be like that. When I was a kid, the soft creamy style so popular now didn’t exist. When you made fudge, you got fudge that was a bit crunchy until it dissolved in your mouth.

James asks…

What Stores Carry Caramel Apple Tootsie Pops?

I have looked at my local grocery stores (Pick N Save and Woodmans) and I have looked at Walgreens, Target, and Wal-Mart but none of them have this candy. I would really appreciate it if someone could help with finding where I can buy this. I know it can be bought online but I would like to buy it in stores.

Susie answers:

I got some from The Dollar General, but they aren’t tootsie pops they’re just lollipops,i have no clue what brand they are.lol

Thomas asks…

Sweetart Squeez Candy?

I tried this candy a while ago for my kids and they loved it in their lunch. I just remembered it and now I can’t find it anywhere. I’ve looked in Bloom and BP and Sheetz as well as CVS and a few local stores. Where can I find this candy? Please do not give me an online website unless you know one that would be cheaper than a store even with shipping.

Susie answers:

I GUARANTEE you will find it at walgreens. They have them there in many flavors. I work at a Illinois Walgreens and we sell them there. If not it should be online.

Betty asks…

Where, including the internet, can I find places, to buy sugar free, candy, at bulk, discount, prices? ?

I am looking for a place to buy sugar free candy, which is not overly expensive. My local stores carry almost no sugar free candy, anylonger, and what they do stock is in such small quantities. I am baffled as to why sugar free candy is even more expensive than sugar loaded candy, but most of all, I wish I knew where to find sugar free candy, which doesn’t cost a fortune, yet comes in larger quantities. Can anyone suggest anything?

Susie answers:

Ruth asks…

she’s already mentioned that she’s not emotionally or physcially attracted to me but she thinks im a really good friend.. She’s not even my girlfriend and i bought her godiva chocalate, large slushie, and a large slice of pizza one day. the next day i bought her frozen yogurt. and at the movies i payed for her high priced candy. now she wants to go to applebees for valentines day. i told her i was like ‘ i think you tryin to use me” and she was like ” no, we’re best friends”

You say “you know what, my friend card is filled. I don’t need any more friends and neither do you. But you might need a boy friend for valentines.”

Chris asks…

How to pitch an ad?

Today I thought of a great ad for a candy company. I mean it is an ad that folks will be talking about for a long time.
How do I pitch to a candy company such as Godiva or m&m/mars?

Susie answers:

As already mentioned, figure out which agency handles the account and pitch the idea to them. Make sure that the following are in place first

1) The Storyline / storyboard in a visual form

2) Objective of the campaign – drive awareness, imagery or sales?

3) When you narrate the story try and make it as dramatic and descriptive as possible so that the listener gets a good idea

4) A referral always helps in cases like this – to get through to the agency – so try and find someone who can introduce you to the agency

5) Ensure you approach the ad like a brand consultant rather than like a creative – that way its easier to sell to the company eventually

Hope this helps

Your Questions About Candy Buffet

Nancy asks…

candy buffet?

I plan on having a candy buffet, i have 15 large glass jars does this sound like enough for approximately 50 guests. The jars will be filled to the top. Also i want to have different cookies, would this be too much with the buffet? I’m just thinking maybe not everyone will want candy. And where would be the best place to get pre baked cookies? I’m thinking publix since thats where my cake is coming from. Any thoughts or suggestions?
for lunch were doing finger foods
a bigger meal is not an option, i’m not paying for it.

Susie answers:

Cookies sound great! If you have a local bakery, it might be nicer to have those rather than supermarket cookies, but I would just make sure to taste them first to make sure they’re what you want to serve your guests.

I love the candy buffet idea – I’m planning on one myself. More important than the amount of candy is how it looks – an abundant table is better-looking than one that appears sparse and empty. Use things under the tablecloth (like telephone books, an upturned pie plate, an upside-down plant pot) to elevate some of your jars. The varying heights are more appealing to the eye. If necessary, group your jars on a smaller table to make it seem fuller and more candy-licious. Put your cookies on trays among the jars or on tray-towers.

Good luck!

Mandy asks…

Candy buffet?

We are having a large candy buffet can you help me find some good gourmet *price really isn’t an issue* red and orange candy (also gold if at all possible) any rich caramel colors are ok also

I already have on my list

licorice
taffy
candy coated chocolate (m&ms)
gummi bears

Also do you think chocolate would look funny at all because it is brown, if not any good brands you know. I am looking for about 10 more candies, if not more.
Oh and rock candy I have also.

Susie answers:

Even if you do not want to order from here it will give you some great ideas. Http://www.candywarehouse.com/index.html

Joseph asks…

Candy Buffet?

Hello all,
getting married Oct of 08 and i am thinking about having a candy buffet, its a toss up though because i am not sure our budget can handle it, is $300 enough? If not i was thinking of donating. Any ideas about how much a candy buffet will run for about 200 people?
Thanks everyone for you advice. I appreciate the help.

Susie answers:

At the risk of sounding like an idiot, what’s a candy buffet?

Sandra asks…

what should I get for a candy buffet for my wedding?

I have been thinking about having a candy buffet for my wedding, but I’m kind of clue less when it comes to the whole thing. I’m having about 110 guest, so how many different candy containers should I have and how much of each candy. Thank you.

Susie answers:

This website has candy by the color

http://www.candywarehouse.com/candycolors.html

which would be great to match your colors. I also think about 8-10 medium size jars of candy would be a good amount.

Some of the candy on that website is fairly expensive, and is probably too much for one jar, but you could get ideas for types of candy, and find them at other stores too.

Susan asks…

What kind of candy should i have in my wedding candy buffet? and how much candy should i have for 400 people?

this is for kids and adults: what kind of candy would you like to have at a candy buffet at a wedding? i want to make sure i have candy my guests will like. also, how much candy should i buy for 400 people? again this is for kids and adults. so please tell me your favorite candies. thanks.
more ideas for candy other than chocolate?

Susie answers:

I did a candy buffett at my wedding and this is the candy we offered:

Dum Dums (these are good beacuse they are small enough to fit into jars and goodie bags)
Reeces Peanut Butter cups (minature)
Salt Water Taffy
Sour Stars
Jelly Beans
Hershey Kisses
Pink and Green M&M’s
Chocolate Mints- Peppermint Patties
Starburst

We put them in different size glass jars that I got at Home Goods and then printed out cute labels with the candy names on them and stuck it on the jar with double sided tape.

Just keep in mind that it is easoer if you have more candy with wrappers on them so that people are not touching every piece if they stick their hand in.

We got way too much candy…for 400 people I would just make sure you can fill up each jar at least 2 times. Do you have someone assigned to refill the jars as they get low?

Hope this helps!

Jenny asks…

Do Russell Stover Candies / Whitman’s still send free Whitman’s Samplers out to our troops?

RSC who owns Whitman’s Samplers, made a big media splash a few years ago during the first few weeks of the Iraq invasion. They had employee write encouraging letters to the troops that were inserted into the box of candy.
Do they still do that or was it just a marketing gimmick made thrown of the back of our troops and the war?

Accoding to my son no, hes headed back for his 4th tour

Teenager low on a budget (lol). I was thinking of maybe like a candy bag idea (with a candy cane dipped in chocolate) and a bunch of other candies that I can’t think of yet. With an ornament matching their personality or something. Does that sound like a good idea? What other things sould I put in their? Also what are some other ideas that are a little bigger than that? Thank you

A box of See’s candies wrapped along with a little accessory like a magnet, key chain, small picture frame, along with a Xmas card. Hallmark is the ideal place to shop for cards, keepsakes and other collectible items and you can buy nice stuff at a very reasonable price.

Your Questions About Hard Candy Recipe

Maria asks…

What hard candy recipe is this?

Please look at this photo at http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/185/dsc01429ag3.jpg

It’s a red hard candy with a sugar like coating and comes in little “shards” of pieces. People sell it all the time down here in West Virginia. Sometimes it tastes sweet, but it usually has a cinnamon taste.

Can anyone please tell me the recipe?

Susie answers:

It looks like candy glass.. No seriously, there is a candy called that, it has all different flavors

Nancy asks…

I need a good hard candy recipe to make with my kids. Anybody have one handy?

Susie answers:

Mandy asks…

Kahlua in a hard candy recipe?

I have this yummy hazelnut Kahlua and I was wondering if anyone has ever used Kahlua in a hard candy recipe instead of a flavored extract like peppermint. Please tell me if it will work. Thank you

Susie answers:

My gut tells me that this won’t work. While extracts have a little alcohol they are concentrated and you use hardly any in a recipe for hard candy. To get a true hazelnut coffee flavor from Kahlua, you would have to use a lot more than just a teaspoon or two and I think the amount of alcohol would interfere when trying to reach the ‘hard crack’ stage for hard candy.
I wouldn’t waste the ingredients ‘experimenting’, you wouldn’t be able to make much more than a weird syrup for ice cream if it didn’t set up right.

Ruth asks…

how do you keep hard candy recipe from scorching or burning?

i am making the recipe step by step and it says to boil without stirring until the temperature reaches 300 F but it keeps burning when its left on that long, before it even reaches like 250 degrees

Susie answers:

The pan your using is garbage

use a pan with a heavy bottom

David asks…

does anyone have a jack daniels hard candy recipe?

Susie answers:

Ingredients

2 1/2 cups sugar
1/4 cup light corn syrup
pinch of baking soda
1 tablespoon butter
1 cup evaporated milk
2 tablespoons Jack Daniels
2 1/2 to 3 cups pecan halves
Method

Combine the sugar, syrup, baking soda, butter and evaporated milk. Cook slowly to the firm ball stage, or until candy thermometer registers 242°F. Remove the candy from heat and add the Jack Daniels. Stir in the pecan halves and beat until candy thickens and looks creamy. Drop by spoonfuls onto wax paper and let cool.

Yields: 36 pieces
