Paul asks…
Is it acceptable to give homemade Christmas Candy as gifts?
I can already tell that this year I will not have a lot of money to spend on gifts. There are about 10 couples/families we exchange with (I’ve tried to stop this, but they don’t agree…obviously they make more than us). I normally start buying now when I see sales, and just store it between now and December. But the money just isn’t there. So this year I was thinking it would be better for us financially if I just made candy and gave it as gifts mainly Peanut Butter Balls, Rollo Turtles, Fudge, Peanut Brittle and maybe something else. Is it rude or impolite to wrap these up in cellophane and give them as gifts? I know maybe a tin would be nice too, but I’m more concerned I’m going to look cheap…anyone do this?

Susie answers:
Of course it’s acceptable! Good homemade gifts are always great! For packaging, try going to the dollar store. You can find fairly nice glass and tin containers there, or you can also put them in a Christmas mug. Another thing to do is get a slightly larger container, fill it with colored shredded paper, fill the rest with candy and inexpensive ornaments for decoration. One other suggestion is a “cookie mix in a jar.” Here are some sights.

I hope this helps! I wish I were on your Christmas list this year! I love homemade gifts!

Betty asks…
I live in the GTA and I really want to buy a small cotton candy machine. Does anyone know where I can get one?
I have seen a few on sale but they’re all for sale online. I want to actually purchase it in person in the GTA and in the next week before christmas. If anyone can please help, I would appreciate it so much. Thanks!

Susie answers:
I believe I saw one at winners or homesense in the Ottawa area so likely available chain wide also check out latest sears cat.
I just did a search and store known as “as seen on TV “have it on line and will ship to Canada but I know they have stores set up in various malls

Laura asks…
NewYears Party, What snack food is good?
I am having friends come over tomorrow night for the New Years celebration. I am just planning out what I am going to buy at the grocer. I was thinking about serving up some light snacks. Do you think this would be appropriate:
I would buy 1 – 2 pound loaf of Velveeta Cheese, Make some homemade croutons as I have some iceberg lettuce in the fridge, fixins for Caesar Salad. I already have some salted premium plus crackers. I have one package of 12 wieners that I would slice up into about a 1/2 inch long to put on the crackers with a small square of the Velveeta. I have some left over Christmas candy I would put in a bowl. I also have 2 pieces of cardboard to make up New Years hats.
Drinks: I am going to buy one bottle of Vodka, I have one package of Tang to mix with it. And I am going to buy one Gallon of Grape Jack wine, its on sale for $6.99
I also have some Sanka instant coffee for when my guests are finished for the night and being I don’t want to be washing a bunch of cups, I have a pack of 200 styrofoam cups.
Can you think of anything else? Thanks, E.

Susie answers:
OK, Well No. I’m sorry.
Firstly, do not use iceburg lettuce for a ceasar salad, Use Romaine instead.
Secondly, please do not use hot dogs and velveeta. If $ is not too much of an issue at least purchase some Ritz crackers. Spread with cream cheese and place on some salmon lox with fresh sprigs of dill. Presentation is everything. Or, if not salmon how about pickled asparagus. Use your imagination.
Thirdly, Please purchase real orange juice rather than Tang.
And last but not least….If you must do instant coffee, please purchase something that contains caffine. Maybe look at making a pot of tea instead to serve with your “Christmas Candy”
Sorry for being a “Bag” about this, but if you wish to impress, little things can make a big difference.
Have fun at your party.

Ken asks…
What are some fundraising tips that will help me get more sales for my school?
Almost everyone is saying no, and I need some tips on how to talk to people. P.S. I am selling Christmas items such as candy, candles, etc. If you are interested, give me your email and I will send you an email!

Susie answers:
Ask everyone you know. When my niece sells stuff for fund raising she will ask clerks at convince stores, and will go door to door. If at all possible ask people who live out of town since they probably haven’t been asked. Make sure to ask the school staff because most students forget to ask them. Ask people at your church. Maybe the pastor will let you set up a table before and after church.

Lisa asks…

A Young pretty girl most certainly IS a guy song.. no excuses.. I don’t know how that got on there.. Big Spender was a judgment call.. some versions of it have two femals and a little male backing that is more part of the chorus backing group.. I put it in anyway for the people who liek to belt songs.. but it’s not a TRUE female/female duet.
Thank you for you time.. changes WILL be made and HEADS WILL ROLL.. he,heh,he….

Susie answers:
Well the first correction I see is that A Weekend in the country is from a little night music (not madness) and listening to it I definately hear a guy’s voice.
A young pretty girl like you is a guy song (youtube shows a video sung by Jerry Orbach)
I couldn’t find anything on A perfect day, back on top, beautician ballet
Big spender is more of a group song then a duet
bobo-only found lyrics and they didn’t say how many parts
Your list is too extensive for me to really go over at work…But there are a couple of things that I have noticed….Hopefully someone else will give you more…

Ken asks…
Does anyone have a candy recipe?
I’m trying to find a recipe on how to make Easter peanut rolled eggs. Does anyone have one or know of a good site to find one?

Susie answers:
Hi -
I think this may be what you are looking for. Hope it helps!
PEANUT ROLLED BUTTER CREAM EGGS
1/4 cup soft butter or margarine
1/3 cup Karo (white corn syrup)
1/4 tsp. Salt
1 tsp. Vanilla
4 1/2 cups confectioners sugar (1 box)
Mix the above ingredients by hand. Ingredients will become very stiff and you will have to knead it until smooth. Roll into small egg-shaped balls (the size of walnuts or smaller) and put into the refrigerator to stiffen. Dip in melted chocolate and roll in crushed peanuts.

Sharon asks…
does anyone know any recipes with reese’s easter eggs or cadbury eggs in them?
I’m not looking for a copy cat recipe but something I can bake that uses the reese’s eggs (hard or soft) or the cadbury eggs (hard or soft kind)….preferably the hard candies but anything really..

Susie answers:
I’m throwing this first suggestion in even though it’s a drink…but awesome!:
make a simple Cadbury Vanilla Chocolate milkshake.( This would make a great Easter Breakfast drink.) To make the milkshake you will need 1 ½ cups of Chocolate swirl ice-cream, 5/8 cup of Cold milk, 1 bar of Cadbury Chocolate (choice of flavor) a splash of Vanilla, and a few chocolate chip morsels (Optional).
Place all the above ingredients into a blender and mix for 4 minutes. Make sure you mix this until all lumps from the ice-cream is liquid. Pour into a glass and enjoy. If you want more added to this delicious Easter Cadbury shake add a dollop of whipped cream.
=================================================
Now Chocolate Chip Cadbury brownies.
Take your regular brownie mix, place into bowl.
In a separate bowl place a little bit of melted butter along with a melted bar of Cadbury. Mix this up for a few minutes.
Then add your eggs and whatever else the brownie mix calls for place that into first bowl. Mix this up then add some chocolate chip morsels. Mix this up once again.
Now transfer this mixture to the second bowl, which is holding the butter and the Cadbury bar. Mix this for a few minutes until you have a very smooth consistency. Pour into a baking pan cook on 325 for 35 minutes.

Donna asks…
Can you help me find a favorite childhood candy?
Growing up, there was a local confectionary that made a white chocolate Easter egg filled with a very rich strawberry cream. The lady who ran the shop passed away and I haven’t been able to find anything like this anywhere. I’ve even searched for a recipe to try it on my own. My mom and my brother looked forward to enjoying these each Easter and I would love to surprise them. Can you help?

Susie answers:
This is a delicious easter egg recipe that I have made for years.
Easter Eggs
1 can eagle brand
1 lb butter
2 tbsp corn syrup
Mix together and add enough icing sugar so that you can form into egg shapes [ at least one large bag ].
Dip into melted chocolate after they have been chilled.
You can decorate with melted white chocolate or icing, etc.

Sandy asks…
Which game is better?
just wondering if i should get divinity 2: The dragon knight saga, or Risen.
thanks for your help

Susie answers:
Divinty 2 surely best but it also depends on your intrest!!!

Betty asks…
is this computer good for gaming?
is this computer good for games like fallout 3, (new vegas to), divinity 2 the dragon knight saga, Risen, gothic 4, farcry2. maybe… and maybe Medal of honor ( i so hope so )or COD like black ops or modern warfare 2( MY FAV GAMES ATM ..) .., without lag maybe on low settings or medium but without lag
processor: AMD Phenom X6 1035T , 4GB , harddisk: 1TB , double layer DVD Rewriter , ATI Radeon HD5570 1GB dedicated , Multi cardreader , 9 x USB 2.0
yup those are the specs hmm plz answer clear like: yes it can run it but …that game will be hard. like that.’
thank you <3

Susie answers:
It will be able to run them all at medium high / high settings but if you want to be able to run at max I suggest getting the higher clocked x4 (x6 is for video rending and whatnot) and use the money saved for a better video card such as a 5770

George asks…
will this computer handle games like
could this computer handle games like fallout 3, gothci 4, divinity 2 the dragon knight saga, oblivion, Risen, maybe COD. wihtout lag maybe on low settings but wihtout lag.
http://www.computerstore.nl/product/110188/acer-aspire-x5400-pc.html scrol down a little for specs
thank you

Susie answers:
Yes, my laptop will run all those games and it’s the same thing except your video card is exactly 1 step UP from mine.
Looks like a solid machine for a decent price, too. I say good job on the find, I don’t see many Euro/Brits get good deals on Laptops like that.
It is an Acer, which is not a great brand supposedly, but from my experience they have held up better than many of the Toshibas and HPs I’ve seen.

or medal of honor !! or battlefield bad company 2 or you know battlefield series!

Susie answers:
Don’t listen to enigmafia, he’s clueless.
He’s reccomending a £800 processor with a £55 gfx card =.=
It all seems okay. The 1035t isn’t ideal for gaming, but tbh you wouldn’t see much of a difference upgrading it.
Upgrade the graphics card though, for sure.
Try and pick up a 6850, or 5770 somewhere for cheap. A graphics card upgrade is basically going to make 10x the difference a cpu upgrade would make, for a hell of a lot less.
But yeah, if you don’t upgrade your GPU it wont run it well at all.

All should run fine with resolution at 1024×768 , 1280×1024 or 1440×900.
If you want to play them in Full HD 1920×1080 I suggest the 5870 1GB should do it no Probs.

Nancy asks…
Which chocolate brand is the best for baking and candy making?
What type of chocolate do they normally use for making “Gourmet Chocolates”?

Susie answers:
While I like and use both Nestles and Hershey chocolate for baking and candy making, neither is best for this job. For gourmet chocolates you need gourmet chocolate. For fancier candy making I like Ghiradelli chocolates.

Ruth asks…
Anyone have a good recipe for making chocolate candies?
I have an antique, metal, candy mold for making 49 square candies from a company called “King Kup.” I think the company is defunct now. I’d like to try making the chocolate candies. Anyone have good recipes for this? Warning: I’m a real novice at this whole thing. I’m not familiar with candy thermometers, (although I’m pretty sure you need one), so if you could recommend a good one, that would be great too. Any tips also would be greatly appreciated! Thanx!

Susie answers:
1 Bag Ch Chips
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1tblsp butter
1tsp vanilla heat in microwave 1 minute and stir well, heat 30 seconds more as needed
Makes a very creamy chocolate candy that will chill to a firm con sistancy,
spray your molds before use

Donna asks…
A good recipe for making my own dark mint chocolate candy.
I love Hershey’s Sticks Mint Milk Chocolate but they don’t always have them in the store. So I would like a recipe so that I can make this candy any time I have a chocolate craving.

Susie answers:
Chocolate Mint Candy Recipe
Ingredients
10 squares of semi-sweet chocolate baking bar (1oz each)
1 can of Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk
2 Tsp of vanilla extract
1 package of White Baking Chocolate 170 grams
1 TB Peppermint Extract
4-6 drops of green food coloring
Directions
Melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips with one cup of the Eagle Brand milk in the microwave for one minute, stir to blend.
Remove from microwave and stir in vanilla extract
Spread half of the mixture into a parchment paper-lined 8 inch square pan.
Chill in the refrigerator until firm for 10 minutes.
Keep the remaining semi-sweet chocolate at room temperature!
Melt the white chocolate in remaining Eagle Brand in microwave for one minute. Stir to blend.
Stir in Peppermint extract and food coloring. You can add more color if you want a deeper green color. The color is up to you!
Spread over the chilled semi-sweet chocolate layer.
Chill for 10 minutes in the refrigerator.
Spread the reserved semi-sweet chocolate over the mint layer.
Chill again but for 2 full hours or until solid to the touch.
Lift from pan and peel off paper.
Cut into squares and serve!

Mothers! How many of you belive giving too much candy+chocolate makes your children too hyper and being silly?I do belive so and also it leads your child to have ADHD AND AHD kind of problems that is really beyond controls sometimes.Your thoughts?
I also belive giving too much soft drinks like cock-pepsi do the same thing.

Susie answers:
Choc sweets and fizzy drinks do not effect my children they are naturally calm anyway

Sharon asks…
How do I make candy with chocolate chips that with be firm, not sticky?
Maybe I need to use some other source of chocolate for making candy?

Susie answers:
You must temper the chocolate when you are preparing it for candy making.
Tempering is a science. You MUST have a (candy) thermometer to do it.
Tempering will cause the finished product to be firm to the touch, like professional chocolate candies.
I have been making chocolate candies as gifts for years, so I have some experience with this…
Look up “Tempering Chocolate” at Google, or Epicurious.com

Help with a name for a virtual animal that has to do with sweets?
OK, so me and my friends play a game and we have this thing going on currently where we make an animal that has to do with sweets. All the names I wanted to use are taken, and I just wanted to know what you guys think I could name my animal. The animal choices are: Horse, Dog, Cat, Pig, Rabbit, Mouse, Bear, and Duck, but I’d prefer names that could work with any animal. It can be just about any color except black, you can only make those on Halloween. Best answer goes to the name I use, so submit a lot of names! Thanks in advance!

??Mind candy reads for a 16 year old gal???
My preferences in books kind of revolve around make-believe things like vampires, werewolves, and witches. (I blame twilight) I also enjoy lighthearted romances and comedies. I don’t mind dark books if there’s a lesson I can take from them.
I’ve read all the Sarah Dessen books,
Vampire Academy,
House of Night series,
Morganville Vampires,
Vampire Diaries,
Twilight, Blood and Chocolate,
Silver Kiss,
Tantalize,
Circus of the Damned,
The Night Huntress series,
Georgia Nicholson books,
the Luxe, the Mediator,
1-800-where-are-you series, etc. (Threw out my list because these seem to be some of the most popular series these days =)

Susie answers:
Wow you have have very good taste because I love almost all these books too lol.Defenitly read The Gemma Doyle Trilogy and also since I think we like a lot of the same stuff, my 3rd favorite series ever is called Blue Is For Nightmares and its amazing. It doesnt have realy any fantasy.I reccomended these books because I love them and based on what you like I thought you would probably like them but the main character practices Wicca in the book(just to alert you incase you start to read and wont read it anymore because of religous reasons or whatever)but its great you know like The Luxe and Sarah Dessens books you cant put them down. Also check out the Pretty Little Liars Series(when you see the cover it probably wont look like your type but there realy good).Heres a review from http://www.amazon.com/Pretty-Little-Liars-Sara-Shepard/dp/006088732X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1239410786&sr=8-3

Mandy asks…
What would you do if you saw me at a the local gas station buying tons of candy (details inside)?
Then 1 hour later I come up to your door… and say, “Hello my name is Dan and I’m selling candy for my local fundraiser…. yadda yadda yadda”… what would you do?
(remember you saw me at the gas station buying this candy)

Susie answers:
I’d ask you if you needed a partner in crime….we can tag team, then split the profits…hey what can i say? I consider myself a charitable cause. Lol!

Mark asks…
Where can I order easter candy?
Online please, our local candy store closed and that’s where we always get our candy for the kids. ANyways, some online easter candy shops? Thanks, Cole.

Susie answers:
Type in google.com, then type in where to buy Easter candy for kids. You will get lots of websites.
When it gets close to Easter, grocery stores will stock Easter candy. Call the grocery store and ask when they will be putting it out. Get it early before it gets bought out.
Happy Easter to you and your family.

Richard asks…
Where can you buy candy ciggaretts. ONLY LOCAL STORES?
i need it for my project and i dont know where to find them
THIS IS FOR A PROJECT!!!!! GOD. and i live in MD (maryland if you are stupid)

Susie answers:
Try local dollar tree stores or dollar general has something like it in a box with popeye on the box…

James asks…
You have inadvertainly dropped your footlong Baby Ruth candy in the local pool….?
…It is now floating along….
until someone screams POO!!!!! There is a panic in the pool and people make a mad scram to get out of the water. What do you do? Apologize? eat the wateloged Baby Ruth to show them it is indeed candy?? What???

Susie answers:
Of course, say 10 years ago, I probably would have found a black marker, reaching under my overshirt to write a big letter “D” on my undershirt. Then I would have ripped off my shirt and hollered at the top of my lungs, “I’ll save you…for I am DOOKIE MAN.” Then I would have reached into the pool (jumped in if necessary), grabbed the candy bar and eaten it as quickly as possible. Then I would have let out a satisfied belch and proclaimed, “a bit nutty, but very satisfying!” Then I would have made a fake flying sound and rushed out of the room, careful to avoid the many piles of vomit that would have surely hit the floor by now. I would of course have no need to tell the custodians of the pool that it wasn’t real fecal matter because with all the puke which would surely have been spilled in the pool by then, they’d have to evacuate it and clean it out anyway, so I wouldn’t be saving them any time. I’d make myself scarce and laugh myself silly for about 28 hours.
Of course, nowadays, with all of the super germs out there, and knowing how truly dirty and disgusting people are, I can only imagine how much nasty human leavings there are in a swimming pool, and I would no more eat anything I dropped in a pool than I would allow any of the pool water to get in my mouth. Plus, I’m type II diabetic, so it probably wouldn’t be good for me to eat a Baby Ruth anyway, so what I’d do is I’d scan the faces in the pool area, looking for that one person who you can tell by the look on their face that they think this is pretty dang funny, then I’d go up to the person and see if I could get them to play the joke (I’d mention the diabetic part, not the germ phobic part), and tell them if they wanted a REALLY good laugh, this is what they’d do…I’d hand them a marker and sit back and laugh my a$$ off.

Mary asks…
Do you think it’s safe to let my daughter be a candy stripper at the local hospital?

Susie answers:
Won’t that interfere with her work at the Chicken Ranch in Vegas?

William asks…
Why is it so easy to gobble 3 doughnuts, but 750 calories of our favorite vegetable would be a dull snack…?
Why are sweets so easy, tasty and satisfying? Many of us would guzzle 16 oz of soda without a thought, but at 200 + calories, we’d have to run nearly 3 miles to burn it off, which many people don’t do. The average box of movie candy would take 60-90 minutes of jogging to burn! Why is it so fast, enjoyable, and delicious to eat sugary, salty, or fatty foods, but eating the same amount of low fat, low sugar foods is so unrewarding…that many of us couldn’t eat the same calorie count in broccoli or cauliflower, even if we like it. Do they put something in sodas, krispy kreme doughnuts, godiva chocolates, chips, or popular candy to make the food taste better than normal? To make us crave them? Apples are sweet, but we don’t really crave those. What is going on with these processed foods? In fact, I don’t even remember ever craving a homemade pumpkin pie desert the way I would sit and think about soda or krispy kreme. I’m someone who is into eating healthy and exercising, but even I often think about these foods and want to eat them. I have to struggle to cook myself green beans to eat with the chicken I brought home, while I watch my boyfriend chow down on fries and a double cheeseburger. Is there a reason fast food places don’t typically serve real vegetables? Is there a reason our bodies really want us to eat unhealthy foods? Why does it FEEL like deprivation? Why do we crave that garbage that isn’t really even food? What do food companies really do in their laboratories? How are we able to get renewed appetite to eat a giant brownie sundae after eating a full meal?

Susie answers:
The same reason it is easier to gain weight than it is to loose it.
Junk foods are meant to be addictive. They put lots of sugar in them, they use them to manipulate our tastebuds and ultimately, they get us addicted so we want to eat more of it. Foods like that are artifically flavored, meaning they are purposely meant to create a craving so you’ll continue to buy it again and again. In the 21st century, fast food and artificial fillers control the world. That is that. And because chain restraunts and doughnut companies do exist, we’re used to it.
By the time we are adults, we have probably aten fast food a good amount of times and the fact that it is right there and super cheap is only a plus.
Anyone would be surprised if they actually learned about fast food and junk food. Foods that have been cooked, prepared and have more natural ingredients; they rot quick meaning we digest them better & quicker. Foods that are artificially made though, they take time to rot and that means we will digest them slower, which means weight gain, you get full easy on the food (and satisfied) and ultimately, it is because we aren’t mean to eat them, even though edible.
I admit that because of my hectic life and scheduale, I eat fast food at least 3 times a week. I often go for a salad over a burger and just mix some fries in, but even salads, especially Mcdonald’s, can be just as much if not higher in calories than the biggest burger the place offers!
People would be really surprised at how much energy and how much better they feel about themselves if they ate organically and didn’t eat junk food. Meat is also another thing, especially beef, that we really are not supposed to be eating. I know I will get people disagreeing with me, but it’s true. Don’t eat meat for 2 weeks, then eat a steak and you’ll see how sick you get, and it is because we really are not supposed to be eating it. The same goes for fast food; Don’t eat it for a month, then go get a big mac meal and enjoy the stomach ache you’ll have for the rest of the night and the next day. I’d bet you couldn’t even down the entire hamburger.
Restraunts offer healthier choices, though because some people can’t afford to spend 9.99$ on a single plate that may only keep them sustained for 2-3 hours, a little longer than fast food, it’s usually not even an option.

George asks…
Help with my Bichon Frise? PLEASE ANSWER!!?
I adopted a 3 year old Bichon from the humane society and she is so sweet! She is potty and krate trained. We have had her for seven months now and she still will have little poo and pee accidents in the middle of the night. We are tired of it! She also has a nose for sweets and has eaten a chocolate caramel candy and part of a Godiva bar (we called the vet and he said she will be fine). She will also bark randomly in the night. Any suggestions? I love the little squirt, but I am frustrated!
Thank you!
By the way, we do take her out right before bed and she sleeps with me every night. We take her food up 2.5 hours before bed time.
Yes, she goes outside and we play with her and yes she is on a feeding schedule! 7 am is breakfast, 6 pm is dinner.

Susie answers:
My dog is part bichon and she also has pee and poo accidents. We have had her for 3 years and sometimes, she pees or poos in the house if we leave her in the house for too long alone. She doesn’t even go while were not there, she does it when we get back! She also has accidents like a little child that didn’t want to go before bed so right before you go to sleep, you should put her outside for her to do her business and then let her in. Dogs also have very good hearing, and maybe your dog hears a dog far away in the night and she feels that it is a threat for your family. She’s just trying to protect you! My dog also has eaten a lot of sweets, such as a whole pack of oreos that was left on the floor, and she has never gotten sick. She also has climbed on the table (by jumping on a chair and then the table) and eaten the food there. Good luck!

Nancy asks…
Jonas Brothers Cocert?
I’m going to a Jonas Brothers performance(I wouldn’t really call it a concert because they’re playing for half-time and post-game at a basketball game) and the place is attached to a mall and I wanted to know if they would be walking around there because it’s all expensive stuff and there’s a Godiva Chocolate Place(Joe’s fav candy) and if they are, how should approach them. Oh, and the reason I wanted to know if they’d be wandering around because they have a concert 1 state over so I don’t know if they had to leave early or something.

Susie answers:
They would probably walk around and do some shopping before the concert, but probably a good few hours before the performance, because they have to warm up and do soundcheck and everything. If the concert’s in the afternoon, however, they might go shopping after.
It depends when their concert the next state over is. In one podcast, they say they usually arrive at the place they’re having a concert at that morning. If their next concert is the next day, then they’d probably pack up and hit the road, and not go shopping!
The best way to approach them would be this: DO NOT act like a crazy, Jonas-obsessed fan, even if you are! You could say, “I love your music”, or something like that, but don’t go, “OHMYGOSH! YOU’RE THE JONAS BROTHERS! I LOVE YOU!” Most musicians would be a little creeped out by that! (:

Whitman’s or Russell Stover?

Susie answers:
Russell Stover

Maria asks…
Frugal Sweet Tooth Poll: Will you go to the store the day after VD and buy candy at a big discount?
You can usually get good prices on Russell Stover, Whitman, and other types of expensive chocolates the day after Valentine’s Day.
Will you take advantage of this big discount?
Thanks, as always, for adding to the sampling of my poll.

Susie answers:
If i wasnt trying so hard to lose a few pounds i wouldnt have worried about price. Id have a basket full…

Donald asks…
Do you eat your dessert before dinner?
Sometimes I do depending on the mood. Sometimes when I eat peanut M&Ms I open the bag on the kitchen table before we have dinner with my mom. She tells me to wait till after finishing dinner to eat them. My mom has the same dessert as me and she also opens them and eats one or two of them before dinner. Once, I opened my Russell Stover mini-box of candy 2 hours before dinner in the living room and forget to eat one then when I moved the candy to the kitchen I ate one of them. My mom said it is okay sometimes.

Susie answers:
Some times even along dinner, too!

Linda asks…
what do you like better white choc or dark choc?
I like both but would rather have dark choc, right now I’m eatting this candy bar it’s called Russell Stover (Private Reserve) Triple Chocolate Mousse., it’s made with 70% Cacao Dark and White Chocolate, and I can tell you it tastes so good. Now this is a candy bar to eat.

Steven asks…
Can I roll my 401K from Merrill Lynch to JP Morgan?
I have a 401K from Wal-Mart (Merrill Lynch) and I want to roll over to Russell Stover‘s (J.P. Morgan). Can I do that?

Susie answers:
If you have changed jobs, you can ask Russell Stover if they will allow you to roll the old 401K into the new one.
Personally, unless you plan to retire at say, 55, I’d like to keep the money out of a 401K since it will be tied up until leave or get fired from that job. You can roll the old 401K to an IRA…which gives you a little bit more control in the event of an emergency.

Carol asks…
After the love is gone. Is there any hope for rekindling the flame?
After 30 years of marriage and a lot of water both bad and good has gone under the bridge on both sides of the river, can things be fixed.
I woke up about a year ago and realized that I really loved this woman that I chose to spend my life with, but we were in trouble.
She stated that she loved me but was bot in love with me. I have tried almost everything I can think of and I am almost ready to give up, but I can’t. I love this woman with all of my heart. She excites me. The more distant she gets the more I want her.
We sleep in different rooms by her request. She no longer let’s me see any part of her naked body, no longer touches me, or shows any affection. Yet I still try. I have just retired due to medical reasons but I am health enough to seek intimacy with her. No one else will do. I have done everything that I could possibly do, incl. cooking every day and doing the housework, gifts, gifts, gifts. Flowers, candy, love notes, e-mails, dates, hot towels when she showers at times. Nothing seems to work and I get the impression that things are getting worse.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t expect anything for all that I have done. I just trying to make life better and do the best for the most precious thing in my life. My jewel, the love of my life, my wife. Or, is it too late?

Susie answers:
He with the most control in a relationship is the one who cares the least. Right now, she cares the least so rules the relationship.
You need to reclaim your significance in this relationship. A woman who was in love would appreciate your gestures, however, your wife is not even sure if she wants to be married so your efforts only serve to push her further away. What I am about to suggest is going to sound manipulative (because it is) but sometimes we just have to play hardball to get ahead.
Here’s what I’d do if I was in your shoes:
Step 1:
Have your own life – go out with friends, take up a hobby, play golf etc. Distance can make the heart grow fonder. She needs to see you having fun without her and not needing her or being available so much.
Step 2:
Flaunt your desirability. Look good, smell good. As a bonus, if another woman notices you, your wife might just realize that you still have “it”.
Step 3.
Look happy! Be nice, friendly and civil towards your wife but don’t look like you’re pining over her and miserable without her love (even if you are). Smile, laugh and be interested in outside hobbies and friends. Give her the impression that you are doing just fine without her.
Step 4.
Don’t notice her as much. If you see a glimpse of her nude body or if she looks stunning in an outfit, don’t react or even better, avert your eyes. If she feels you are less interested in her looks, she might get concerned and try to make you interested again. Also, stop doing those sweet things so much for her. Don’t stop doing nice things altogether or it will look like you are jaded or it will look like something is up. Just don’t be too generous or too affectionate. Give her an opportunity to miss and appreciate the things you do for her.
Step 5.
Make her jealous. Be careful here because you don’t want to make it obvious or it can backfire. It can be as simple as you saying something like, “Jill made the best potato salad I’ve had in years.” or let her overhear a funny or interesting story that Susan told you about____. Or, “Jacky sure is a classy dresser.” Sparingly say good things about other women about traits your wife doesn’t have in a non sleazy way. It sounds horrible but reminding her of her own inadequacies can work in your favor.
Step 7.
Pull her in and push her away. If you two do have a rare opportunity to reconnect, then make it a wonderful experience for her. The day after though – this is the hard part, push her away. Go into your “man cave” or otherwise make yourself scarce for a bit. Likewise, if say, you have a wonderful evening chatting and getting close, end it short. Just as the conversation or activity is at it’s best, end it. Go and tend to “that thing” you had to do. Any interaction with you should be a positive experience but you need to leave her wanting more by leaving things on a high note.
Step 6. – As a Last Resort
Use reverse psychology. Suggest a break up. You need to make it look like you think a life apart is a great idea….the best! Tell her that you think a divorce or trial separation might be the best. Tell her life is too short to be miserable. You both deserve to be happy even if it’s not together. Don’t appear angry or sad even if she agrees. Just give the impression than her happiness is important to you and you’d rather she be happy elsewhere than here with you. Easier said than done. If she loves you, the fact that you don’t want her will make her crazy. She will want you back and realize how much she actually does love you. If she really has checked out however, this might backfire and she might just want a divorce. If that happens though, it was over a long time any way, she was just too scared to say the words.

Mandy asks…
MAJOR PRESENT CRISIS!!!?
Okay, I’m a last minute shopper and I hate myself for it. Please don’t answer by saying “You waited till NOW to buy gifts?” Yes, I know I waited till now, which means I’m at a one-store limit. I can’t go all over town.
I need gifts for:
MOM: thinking about earring or a picture frame. Any other ideas? Preferably something I could make (I’m not cheap, my mom just likes handmade things)
DAD: kind of “nerdy”. He likes books, but he already has one by Clinton and Obama. Who’s left? Please help me out.
2 BROTHERS: Not a big deal. I’ll probably get them candy. They both LOVE Skittles.
AUNT: I have more than a day. I’m going to mail her gift, so it can be a little late. She’s also my Godmother, and ALWAYS gives me gifts. I have to get her something nice.
Please help come on guys you can get ten points!
By the way I have no idea why this is in ‘history’. I meant to put it in ‘Christmas’.

Susie answers:
Mom: If you have lots of pictures on a memory card, you could get her a digital picture frame and put lots of pictures in there.
Dad: Get him a gift card to barnes and noble or another bookstore he may like.
Brothers: Buy each of them a huge of bag of skittles and put all of the skittles in a jar. I did the same thing for my older brother and put the red and purple (his favorite ones) in a different jar.
Aunt: You can a picture of you and put it in a nice frame.

How many are so excited for christmas there holiday shopping now or recently?
as for this polish gal i am so really excited over all the bargains i have been finding around town here.I live some where in a town called Mattawan ,Michigan…like today i could not help but stock up on some holiday scented candles at family dollar stores at .50 cents each but priced at two for a dollar!! wow…also they have a six pack of tooth brushes for $1..00 wow makes great stocking stuffers…then shell stations have mens leather wallets in at $8.99….citgo stations have a few three packs of mens socks priced at $2.00 and there going fast…..and in a few days i am also ordering some bargains thru the mail too…..i love holiday shopping and am very frugal ..so when i saw the holiday scented candles family dollar stores just put out on the shelves i snatched plenty at two for a buck wowie….why you ask…for all the extra guests i may have stop by,, here is what i do with the scented candles,,, i get some packs of holiday motiff paper sacks and slip a candle in each bag,,, tape a candy cane and bow on the outter bag with a bow and name tag and whala instead extra holiday presents in a hurry if need be ..whew,,,,as in starting in Novemeber i love to have holiday gifts on stand by for any one whom knocks on my door from the parcel post people or fed ex people or mail man or woman…all i can say is i hope i get many people knocking on my door this holiday season…just love giving ….and seeing smiles ….happy holidays everyone ..

Susie answers:
That’s such a good idea! If you don’t mind I might do the same, ha ha! Anyway, being a preteen, I don’t go much shopping except bargain hunting. If I find good deals like that, I go straight for them! If not, I avoid it and try to make something similar. I personally get really excited during Christmas season because I make a lot of gifts, like 10 for each family member, and they are actually pretty good quality. So yes, I am very excited for Christmas time, in fact it’s about this time of year where I start booking craft ideas on my computer so that it’s not too hectic when I’m looking for last minute gifts! Thank you for your idea, ha ha and have a Merry (Early, I know) Christmas!

Sandy asks…
Native English speakers! Could you help me?
Dear you all,
How do you do? Thank you for this.
I would like you to correct my poor English better way, I would be very happy if you could make them as fluent as possible.
Thank you so much! have a good day!
…….
You are welcome for the two mails ^^ when you feel happy, I feel happy too ^^
Yes, I have gotten many mails from my penpals. One of my penpals likes taking pictures. She sent me many beautiful pictures. Just today, she sent pictures of her village which was so nice. She is a really nice and pretty girl from Korean.
She asked me if she could send a new year card to me, I was really glad to hear that.
Have you sent any post cards or snail mails to your penpals?
I have never send any snail mails or post cards, (I think it is nice but to write a letter with my hands and to go to the post office are troublesome) but I have sent a gift to one of my penpals for about three years ago ^^ she asked me ” Can you inform me of your address? I want to send a post card to you. My adress is….” Then I thought that I could send a gift to her. I knew she liked a manga called “hagane no renkin jutsu shi” (Fullmetal Alchemist) so I went to a manga shop to buy something for her. I bought a magcup, towel, pencils..and some other things of that manga.
She did not know that I had sent that gift until it was arrival to her house. She seemed to be happy with the gift ^^
She told me “I asked my mom if you could stay at my house, she said you could stay here if you come to Finland”
It was sooo cute of her to ask that to her mom ^^ and she asked me what kind of gifts I would like to get from her, I had no idea what things I would like to get, anyways I do not want her to send any gifts to me, because sending a gift by airmail would be a lot of cost for young people. I mean, 100 dollar for adult and 100 dollar for the youth are not the same.
I though that she had been given money from her parents, so should use money for her, not for me.
So, if the Korea girl would send me a new year card, it will have been the first card from my penpals ^^
I think small girls want to exchange snails mails or post cards more than boys or men, that Korea girl is 16 years old, and that Finish girl was 15 years old at that time, aa, I remember, a french girl asked me if she could send some candies to me too. she was 16 years old. so it seems small girl tend to exchange something ^^

Me personally…I’ve never sent any snail mail, or post cards for that matter. (I think it’s nice, but to write a letter by hand then have to go all the way to the post office is quite troublesome.) I have sent a gift to one of my penpals about three years ago ^^
She’d asked me if I could tell her of my address and if she could send me one too. And of course, I told her, then I thought…
“I should send a gift to her.”
I knew she liked a manga that was entitled “hagane no renkin jutsu shi” (Fullmetal Alchemist), so I went to a manga shop to buy something for her. I bought a magcup, towel, pencils..and some other things pertaining to that specific manga.
And of course these little trinkets were a surprise, because she didn’t know I was going to send them until they arrived at her house. And when she recieved them, she seemed to be happy ^^
In return she asked me what kind of gifts I would like to get from her. I had no idea what to tell her. I don’t really want her to send any gifts to me, because sending a gift by airmail would cost quite a bit for young people. I mean, $100 for adults and $100 for young people is definately not the same.
And the more we spoke, she eventually told me that I could stay at her house if I ever came to Finland and that her mother wouldn’t mind. (I thought it was so cute of her to ask that of her mom ^^)
So, if my Korean penpal would send me a New Year’s card, it would be the first card from my penpals ^^ Although, in the past I have had other penpals who wanted to send me things. Such as a penpal that I had from France. She asked me if she could send me candies. I don’t know what it is, but it seems that younger girls I have had as penpals want to exchange items more than the male penpals I’ve had.
I hope that helped some ^^ Sorry I made it so long! ^^

Chris asks…
You think my neighbor girl would have any interest in dating me?
I like this girl who lives upstairs from my apartment. So, yesterday evening, I knocked on her door and gave a box of holiday cookies and candy, wishing her and her roommate a merry Christmas. I included my e-mail and phone number on the gift tags, hoping that she would reciprocate my gesture by sending me a thank you e-mail or call or text. Alas, I have not received any of those from her.
She was pleasantly suprised when I gave her the gifts, buut I don’t think she see’s me as more than just a friendly neighbor dude. She probably won’t be interested in going out on a date with me. Othewise, she would have sent me a thank you note at least. Your thoughts?

Susie answers:
That was a very thoughtful and cute idea! I would suggest just talking to her more and then casually ask her to go out for coffee one day or something. Good luck!

Jenny asks…
How do you make hard candy using maplesyrup and glucose in the recipe?
I make maple syrup at home, and I was looking for some recipies to make hard candy. I was told by a source to get glucose to make the candy, but I didn’t recieve any more information after that. Please give me any help that you can. thank you.

Susie answers:
Simple Solution:
printer friendly version
INGREDIENTS
2 cups real maple syrup
1. Using a candy thermometer, in a sturdy saucepan with high sides, bring the maple syrup to a boil.
2. Turn the heat to very low and allow the syrup to continue boiling without stirring until the thermometer reads 233F. Be careful that the syrup doesn’t boil over – once maple syrup finally decides to boil, it really boils. The boiling action is mesmerizing; the syrup’s dark earthy color in such constant motion reminds us that the earth itself is constantly moving and changing, even when it appears to remain the same.
3. When the reduced syrup has reached 233F, remove it from the heat and allow to cool, still without stirring it, until the thermometer reads 110F.
4. Now it’s time to beat the reduced syrup with a wooden spoon. Beat vigorously for several minutes. (It can help to sing when you do this.) You are making a transformation take place: As you beat, the syrup gradually turns a pale caramel color and it becomes stiff enough to hold a shape.
5. Place in candy molds or form into patties on a plate or baking sheet and allow to cool completely. Then unmold and enjoy.
Makes about 1 pound of candy.

Sandra asks…
Can you keep hard candy somewhere else besides in wax paper with out it getting sticky or messing up ?
I made some hard candy but I do not want to wrap it . I want it to keep for a long time , but do not know how else to store it . Does anybody know?

Susie answers:
Dust with powder sugar lightly and place into an airtight jar. Place in dark cool place. I have kept jars of candy in a cabinet in my wall unit since last year and it still tastes fresh as the day it was made or bought.

Linda asks…
How can I keep hard candy in its liquid form without turning it brown?
I am doing a project and I need to keep hard candy (corn syrup & sugar)in its liquid form for quiet a peroid of time But do not want it to turn brown. Does anyone know what to do?

Susie answers:
Use a double boiler, take a pot and a glass bowl, place some water in the pot and place the glass bowl on top (with the corn syrup and sugar in it). Make sure the water in the pot doesn’t touch the bowl. Then have it simmer on low heat. You’ll be fine…

Joseph asks…
Hard ball candy is prepared from a boiling aqueous sugar solution that has a boiling point of 240.°F. What mas?
Hard ball candy is prepared from a boiling aqueous sugar solution that has a boiling point of 240.°F. What mass of sugar (C12H22O11) would you need to add to 1.50 L of water to make the hard candy solution? Assume the density of water is 1.00 g/mL.

(240.°F – 32) ÷ 1.8 = 115.55
115.55 – 100 = 15.55 ºC increase in boiling point
Boiling point increase of water = 0.52 ºC * molality
Boiling point increase of water = 0.52 ºC / mole of solute in 1 kg of water.
15.55 ºC increase in boiling point ÷ 0.52 = 29.9 molality
1 liter of 29.9 m solution would require 29.9 moles of sugar in 1 kg of water
So, 1.5 liter of 29.9 m solution would require 1.5 * 29.9 moles of sugar in 1.5 kg of water
Molar mass of C12H22O11 = (12 *12) + (22 *1) + (11 * 16) = 342 grams
1.5 * 29.9 moles of sugar * 342 grams/ mole = 15.3397 kg of sucrose
If you would like me to answer your questions in the future, request that I be one of your contacts. Then when you post a question, I will receive it via email. Otherwise I just search randomly for a question to answer.
Thanks for the opportunity to be of help

Susie answers:
Old Fashion Hard Candy!
* 2 cups sugar
* 3/4 cup Light Corn Syrup
* 3/4 cup hot water
1. Pour 2 cups sugar, 3/4 cup Light Corn Syrup (Karo preferably), and 3/4 cup hot water in a small saucepan. If you’re using a thermometer, (Which is highly recommended) make sure that the pan is small enough for the bulb to be submerged in the solution.
2. Heat lightly and stir with a wooden spoon until the sugar is completely saturated (clear) and the mixture smooths.
3. Bring to a boil. Stop stirring. You must not stir, as the solution will “sugar,” which means to cloud up and become gritty.
4. Raise the temperature to high as it boils.
5. Watch your thermometer until the temperature is at exactly 310 degrees.
6. Wait for about 10 to 15 minutes.
7. Wait until the mixture turns amber color or until the whole pot is covered in small bubbles.
8. Remove from heat and submerge pot into cold water in a sink.
9. After the sugar stops boiling (but is still very hot) add a dram of flavoring oil and several drops of your choice of food coloring or Kool Aid . Mix quickly.
10. Pour the molten sugar onto a greased cookie sheet. Allow it to cool. Spread the mixture around the sheet.
11. After the sheet cools (30 minutes – an hour), break up the candy into several pieces and dust with powdered sugar.

James asks…
sweets theme?
Instead of having wedding favours, we’re going to have jars of retro sweets so guests can have pick n mix pots. The balloons are going to be held down by candy canes, the tables named after sweets – what other sweet themed things can we have?

Susie answers:
Theres loads! You can go on lovehearts website cos they do special personalised ones or go onto ebay for love heart type balloons etc..what your suggesting there is a candy buffet..have little silver scoops (get on ebay..i got them there) and old fashioned striped paper bags to pop the into. Have a ‘candy sign’ like ‘candy shop is open’ or ‘love is sweet’…scatter love heart confetti on the table (go to confetti.co.uk)..they have love heart cake boxes, bubbles, invites etc..

Sandy asks…

60′s Theme Party?
We are having a 60′s theme party for our parents…..any suggestions on party decorations or food? We have some things…lava lamps, smiley face stuff, retro print fabric….any other ideas? Hopefully some that are cost effective?? What about food? What candy was popular then? Drinks? Main dinners?

Susie answers:
Since it sounds like you are already on your way to a hippie party, add peace signs, tie dye, daisies, plenty of bright colors. Music should include Crosby, Stills and Nash, the Doors, the Stones, Beatles, Hendrix, and John Lennon.
While you don’t have to spend this much, it’s a cute look.
For food that was popular in the 60′s, try fondue, either cheese with bread to dip or chocolate with fruit to dip. You could even have both if you wanted. Astronaut food was big, since man was going into space and landing on the moon, everyone wanted to eat food like they ate in space. Orange Tang was big, you can still find it today next to the Kool-Aid. Chex Mix, granola, cola, root beer, jelly beans, etc…
Try the “typical 60′s candies” link in the first paragraph for a listing of more sweets that were popular.

Mandy asks…
Does anyone know of a sugar free Buckeye Candy Recipe?

Susie answers:
I was interested in your question, because I live in Columbus and have eaten many buckeyes. Additionally, my mom is diabetic.
My internet search came up with one recipe that has nuts in it. Usually the buckeyes I’ve eaten are creamy, and nut-free inside.
You may want to modify this recipe.

Sandy asks…
I want to make sugar free hard candy – do you know how?

I know that at my local pharmacy they have box mixes that are for sugar free hard candy you just add water and the flavoring. Its pretty tasty too. My pharmacist made some and shared it with everyone.

William asks…
Sugar Free Treat & Fudge Recipes?
Hi everyone! I am looking for a recipe that is sugar free, and ESPECIALLY aspartame free. I am making different types of fudge as gifts for my boyfriend’s immediate family for Christmas (his request, not mine!!!), and his niece LOVES sweets. Obviously they prefer not to give her tons of sweets because they are bad for her, so I was wondering if anyone had any recipes? Something soft like cookies is ideal, no hard candy recipes, she’s 1 and a half. I want to make her something healthy, sugar substitute free, and sweet.
Second, I would like tested fudge recipes!! I need a recipe for peanut butter fudge (with the marshmallow fluff), regular chocolate fudge, and diabetic fudge. I am aware there are recipes on the internet, but I’m hoping someone has actually attempted a recipe and got great compliments! Please keep in mind, I’ve never made it before…nothing TOO difficult!!
Please let me know! Thanks everyone, happy holidays!

Susie answers:
Here is a Sugar Free Holiday Fudge Recipe that my friend Clara taught me
Ingredients
1/4 cup butter
2 ounces unsweetened chocolate
24 (1 g) packets Splenda
8 ounces cream cheese
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup chopped pecans (if there are nut allergies you can omit this)
1)Melt butter in small saucepan, or microwave.
2)Stir in chocolate until melted.
3) Add Splenda and vanilla, mixing well.
4) Combine cream cheese and chocolate mixture until it is completely mixed; may use the mixer if you want.
5) Stir in chopped pecans.
6)Spread in an 8-inch square pan that has been greased well with butter.
7)Refrigerate until firm and cut into 1-inch squares. Store in refrigerator.
Peanut butter fudge
3 cups sugar (for sugar free use 3 cups of splenda)
1 cup butter
1 cup peanut butter
2/3 cup evaporated milk
7 ounces marshmallow cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1. Place the sugar, butter and evaporated milk in the saucepan.
2. Heat on medium until the mixture reaches about 240 degrees
3. Remove from heat.
4. Stir in the peanut butter, marshmallow cream and vanilla until the mixture is smooth.
5. Pour into greased baking dish
6. Chill in the refrigerator until the fudge is firm.
7. Cut into 1 1/2-inch squares before serving.

Richard asks…
Halloween Party for 12-15 year olds? I’m talkin 100-150 guests?
I am planning a halloween party in mid-october. I live on a farm and its super scary at night. i’ve looked around yahoo answers and i got some ideas to keep everyone entertained.
Hayride
Brain-Mold Jello
Gross-Food Guess
Scavenger Hunt
The Winking Game
Bobbing for Apples
Ouija Board (maybe)
Fortune Teller/Palm Reader (maybe)
Movie on a big screen in my backyard
Candy Corn Guess
Sardines
Costume Contest
Any Ideas or Comments on the games? I also need ideas on decorations. Not too scary, just halloween themed. I’m worried people will freak out about the fortune teller. i dont want that….
Thanks
oh and i cant use my barn because its junky and our tractor is in there.

Susie answers:
Personally, I would forgo the Ouija board for obvious reasons. I’m not saying you will “call forth the boogeyman” but dabbling in the spirit world is something that should not be taken lightly and you should be well-prepared.
That being said, all of the other activities sound fun! I found this web site ( http://www.hauntproject.com/ ) some time ago and it has tons of DIY ideas for decorations. I would also suggest purchasing cobwebs and plenty of candles to light up the house.

Nancy asks…
random stuff you find in your room?
i was cleaning out my room today and just wondered: what is the weirdest thing you have found on your floor when cleaning your room?
the weirdest ones we found today:

-some odd white powder stuff (we don’t want to know
-a kool-aid burst bottle with purple mold (never seen purple mold lol)
-the old rake (we clean our room with rakes)
i forgot the training bra (the smallest boobs in our house is DD)
we also found undies that no one will claim

Susie answers:
A dead frog.
And underwear that was apparently no ones in my ENTIRE family.

Michael asks…
Do you have to use baking chocolate…?
… if you are going to melt it down and mold it to make, say, lollipops for Halloween?
I LOVE the Chocolate they sell at Aldi’s…it’s my all time favorite. I wanted to know if I can use that make candy instead of baking chocolate? I’d hate to ruin/waste it.
Thanks
It’s just bars of dark chocolate that they sell. If you haven’t tried them, I recommend them!

Susie answers:
I don’t see why it wouldn’t work ~

Carol asks…
How is mold removed from apartment walls?
After resigning my lease for 2 years last September, I decided to do some repairs and started chipping away at the paint in the foyer (it was easily coming off in chunks). When I got down to the actual wall surface under the 900 layers of paint, I noticed quite a few spots of mold. This was only in 1 area of 1 wall that didn’t even receive direct water damage from the people upstairs (On Halloween 2009, I woke up to them flooding our bathroom with about 2 inches of water after the faucet broke on their shower…which happened again after that, twice — and another tenant in the building told me that previous to me moving in, he came home one day and noticed a cascade of water coming from under the door. The people upstairs had flooded it so bad by leaving the faucet running for about 8 hours that the would-be tenants opted not to take the apartment). I started having health issues a couple months after moving in (headache, sneezing, itchy eyes, puffy eyes, lately it’s been all those plus constant fatigue, difficulty breathing, swollen glands, etc.). My dog has had non-stop bouts of coughing and sneezing to the point I somehow thought she developed kennel cough. My boyfriend was popping Claritin like it was candy because he said his allergies were constantly acting up and that it must be due to living near a park.
I called the management company and reported the problem. I told them if it couldn’t be fixed, I wanted to move. They said someone would call me. How does mold actually get removed? Given the amount of water damage this unit has been exposed to, would it even be possible for them to be able to remove the mold while we still occupy the apartment? Or is it best to just request another unit?

Susie answers:
If the mold is bad enough that it has had time to grow all the way thru the drywall it has to be cut out and replace with fresh drywall. This usaully only happens when the wall is in a constant state of being damp or wet.
Once the water source (leak) has been fixed and fresh drywall has been installed and the air remains dry..not humid. It will not grow back.
If it is just surface mold from a recent leak it can be killed with “BIN primer” or “KILZ” primer then repainted.
Thats what they need to do…give them a chance to do this,if they dont do it like i mentioned they are trying to shortcut the situation… If they just try to paint over it with no primer it will come back.
You dont have to move like the last person said.that is in extreme situation in which the whole apartment would need repairing, not for just a small section. Give the landlord a chance to fix the problem properly, let them know you know the right way it needs to be fixed. And let them do there work. If your worried about being there when there working just go to the mall for the day or do some shopping .
