Your Questions About Divinity

Richard asks…

How does historical fact in the Bible prove divinity?

From a theological standpoint, isn’t human history within the knowledge of humanity? Many civilizations have kept records of events but we could not assign divinity based on the accuracy of those records. So why does the Biblical record lend validity to the Christian position?

Susie answers:

It doesn’t prove, in and of itself, It lends validity though.

So your argument is HOW can 1 thing alone, prove the Bible is an inspired text.

Answer is simply, it doesn’t and hardly anyone hinges the ENTIRE argument of divinity on mere historical facts.

But, as one poster pointed out… Errors can make us doubt it.

Therefore, the reverse of that is that correct historical information gave give us a “reason” to look deeper… Give credibility and make us “consider” the other theological and instructional teachings.
So that’s your answer, It is but 1 reason, and not the ONLY reason.
________________________________________________

Here’s where my personal bias enters in and I depart from some Christians….

As a Catholic, I look at things differently. I don’t NEED to use the bible to prove the bible. I see great Flaws in using the thing, to prove the thing.
I find wisdom and logic in using outside sources to collaborate the validity of something.

I like to trace things back to their source and look at ALL the evidence.

The Catholic church decided what to put into the Bible…what amongst all the texts that existed and which were attributed to God or to an apostle, to include.
Thus Creating the Bible.

The reasons are many..but by WHOS authority could they even do this? What gave THEM the right to decide what IS and ISN’T divinely inspired?
Ahh.. That’s the key. In asking that question you realize the key reason the Bible can’t prove itself to be divinely inspired.
You see to even SAY something is divinely inspired,… You need an outside source, something with authority to do so.

Quick analogy: I can’t say I’m the King of Vermont, and have it mean anything, UNLESS something OTHER THEN ME, confirms that..and gives me that authority. Otherwise the distinction is meaningless…RIGHT?

The Catholic church felt that its unbroken link back to the Apostle Peter whom Jesus said was “his rock” and told him “upon this rock I will build my church” and further promised Peter the right to bind and loose here on Earth… Was what gave it authority.
It alone had an unbroken link and its Bishops had been directly taught by not only Peter himself, but Paul, Mark, John, etc.

With this physical, face to face knowledge, handed down from 1 apostle to his sucessors, from Apostle to Bishops, only with that sort of knowledge could anyone possibly have the authority to say WHAT amongst ALL the writings were divinely inspired and what was not.

IN essence the Catholic church was that outside, 3rd party, authority lending credibility to the Bible. The bible had authority THRU the early church.

The Catholic church decided what went IN and what stayed out..and thereby WAS the authority, had some say over how to interpret the book THEY essentially created.
NO, they didn’t write every word, but they chose what to include and therefore had more right then anyone else to say HOW it should be interpreted.
__________________________

That’s how I look at things. Historical facts are just 1 reason. But ultimately it only makes sense that you need SOMETHING outside of the bible to confirm it is divine…and the MORE authority that outside entity has..the more credibility the thing they are authorizing has.
So the bible’s credibility as a divine source stems from the authority the Catholic church had to lend it at the time of its creation.

I know not many Non-catholics will like that perspective..but to me it is the only logic that makes sense and fits the historic facts of how the Bible came into being.

Susan asks…

Any Divinity and/or Fudge Tried and True Recipes?

I have seen many divinity and fudge recipes online and in the newspapers but what I would like to know is: Can anyone give me their TNT recipes, i.e., those that have gone through a few generations, ideally the easier to make the better…lol. Merry Christmas!

Susie answers:

Ditto the back of the marshmallow creme jar. It’s super simple, just make sure you get a candy thermometer.

Steven asks…

Can a person truly believe in the divinity of Christ, but also believe that there is truth in other faiths?

Can you truly and authentically believe in the divinity of Jesus Christ, but at the same time believe that there is truth in other religions?

I believe that all the world’s great religions contain truth and a path to everlasting life. They’re all praying to the same God.

Having said that, Christ is my personal savior. I believe that Jesus Christ is a path to everlasting life.

What do you think of this?

Susie answers:

If you believe in Him you will believe His teachings as the Son of man and the Son of God.

Helen asks…

What Are Some of the Best Graduate Divinity/Theology Schools?

I am interested in possibly pursuing a Masters in Divinity / Theology / Religious Studies and I was wondering if anyone had any information on which graduate schools excel in these programs. I would especially like to know about schools that offer Islamic studies programs in addition to traditional Judeo-Christian programs. Thanks for your help.

Susie answers:

Bob Jones University, my grandfather who was a missionary went there, as well as most of my mother’s side of the family.

Taylor University is also good, a lot of my family’s friends went their.

I don’t know to much personally as I am not a theology major, but that’s my family’s take.

Sandy asks…

How to make divinity candy less sticky?

I made divinity by the recipe, but the candy didn’t harden like it should have. It’s still pretty sticky. It tastes right, but it’s to difficult to eat without getting messy fingers.

Susie answers:

Make sure you let your syrup mixture reach a hard ball stage (260 degrees on a candy thermometer). Also, humidity can also cause problems.

Your Questions About Chocolate Candy Melts

Thomas asks…

Using candy melts in place of tempering chocolate?

I’ve tried tempering chocolate a few times and was only successful once, so I really don’t want to try it again. Can I use candy melts instead?

Susie answers:

Wilton’s Candy Melts work wonderful for things like dipping or coating candies. The chocolate’s shiny, smooth and it dries pretty quickly once the candie’s coated.

Michael asks…

can you make ganache frosting using colored chocolate candy melts( wilton)?

Susie answers:

Yes, technically, you can. But it won’t taste very good. Wilton colored candy melts are not real chocolate, they are type of confectionary coating, the colored ones are vanilla flavored. If you really want a ganache frosting that is not dark chocolate I suggest making a white chocolate(real white chocolate, like Lindt) ganache and adding paste food color to the hot cream before adding the chopped chocolate. This will taste MUCH better. However,if you really want to, the Wilton 2010 yearbook has recipe for whipped ganache that calls for 14oz. Of chopped candy melts to be added to 1 C. Of heated heavy cream.

Mandy asks…

Are Candy Melts Chocolate?

Are Wilton Candy Melts chocolate?

Are they just a chocolate substitute for decorating?

Do they taste like candy or chocolate?

Susie answers:

They are chocolate and they taste like chocolate. It can be flavored using flavored oil if you like.

Susan asks…

can you add food coloring to candy melts?

i want to make some suckers out of white chocolate candy melts but i want them to be blue. i don’t want to use the blue ones because i like the taste of the white chocolate. will the food coloring compromise the white chocolate in any way? i don’t have much experience with food coloring.

Susie answers:

Candy melts come in all different colors, but if you don’t have access to the colored ones, I’d add the food colorings that are in a little jar. It’s more like a paste and it doesn’t thin out whatever you’re using like regular food coloring does. The color is also more true. Wilton makes these and you can get them in stores like Michael’s. Melt your candy melts slowly over a double boiler instead of the microwave to prevent possible burning. Try adding different oil flavors for a different taste. Good luck and have fun!

Maria asks…

Are candy melts good for chocolate covered pretzels?

…and what do they taste like?
Thanks!

Susie answers:

They will work perfect. You could also use chocolate chips with a few DROPS of vegetable oil added to thin it for dipping. The chocolate melts just taste like milk chocolate.

Your Questions About Dark Chocolate Candy Bars

Linda asks…

What are the health benefits of Candy Bars?

If any.
I know there are a lot of good things in Dark Chocolate but what about a regular ol Candy Bar taht you can find at a check out register.

Susie answers:

They reduce any problems caused by low blood sugar.

Paul asks…

My 1 year old bit a corner off a candy bar with a foil wrapper and swallowed it. Should I be concerned?

The foil wrapper was off one of those pricier larger dark chocolate bars. The piece she swallowed (I believe) was maybe a 1/2 inch square. It doesn’t seem to be true aluminum foil, so I didn’t call a doctor or anything, assuming it would come out in the end. Am I correct in that or should I contact her pediatrician?

Susie answers:

No worries… You (she) should be fine.
Children tend to swallow things… Bead, pennies… Etc.

It will all pass.

Ruth asks…

What qualifies as a candy bar?

My wife and I can’t seem to agree on what qualifies as a candy bar. She likes plain dark chocolate bars and claims that these are “chocolate bars” and not “candy bars.” I mean what’s the difference between that and a twix or something like that? And finally does cost affect the classification of “candy bars” from “chocolate bars.” Oh yeah I like Ritter Sport Butter Biscuit Chocolate, only the best “chocolate bar” in the world!!! Or is it really just a “candy bar?”

Susie answers:

In my neck of the woods, if it’s in a bar shape, it’s a “Candy Bar” even if it is pure chocolate. Or, I’ll just say it’s my “Chocolate” if I’ve got a pure chocolate bar, too, but I think I use “Candy Bar” more often.

I never really refer to anything as a “Chocolate Bar”. I don’t remember hearing anybody say that outside of the occasional TV commercial. Just not in my lingo. ;-)

Sandra asks…

What kind of ‘stimulus’ can I bring in to get this girl to really like me in class?

I brought a dark chocolate candy bar into class and this girl who likes me tried to take it away from me. Really cute, but what else could I bring to get this girl really into me. What would really catch her attention?

Susie answers:

More chocolate. Orange chocolate. White chocolate. Milk chocolate. Mint chocolate.

Robert asks…

Who likes chocolate???

Who likes chocolate & what kind and served with what? I like a dark chocolate candy bar served with vanilla ice cream! :D

Thomas asks…

Chocolate and candy for vegetarians?

I’m looking for chocolate and candy brands (such as what you’d find at a local grocery store like Reeses, Hersheys…) that do not contain animal ingredients such as gelatin, etc. I can only find lists online that are completely vegan, but I’m okay with dairy and honey.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Susie answers:

Both Sourpatch Kids and Swedish Berries are gelatine-free. As are Jelly Belly gummy bears, although they do contain shellac.

M&Ms, Reeses Pieces, etc. Are gelatine free, although I do know that the manufacturer of M&Ms does some really obscene animal testing involving M&Ms, I don’t know if that would factor into your decision.

And you can eat vegan candy, even if you aren’t vegan.

I wanted to inquire as to wether or not you have the “Whispa” candy
Bar (by Cadbury) for sale at any of your stores. It has been some time
since it has been available in the US, and a Friend of mine who lives in
the UK told me that you were the last store that he knew of who carried
them.

Thank You for your time.

Susie answers:

The Whispa line was discontinued and reformulated. Similar products are now found in the “Dairy Milk” line, such as the “Dairy Milk Bubbly” which is kinda the same.

I’ve heard that die hard fans of the Whispa do not think it’s the same, but sadly, it’s all Cadbury is making these days that’s similar.

Lisa asks…

Name of book about man who smells like peppermints b/c he’s decaying. He owns candy store.Sux energy from kids

When I was young, I read a book (several times) about a girl who was suspicious about the local candy story proprietor. He always smelled like peppermint and was sucking the life/energy out of the heroine’s brother. He was this evil being who was decaying and rotting. The book would have been published prior to 1992 I believe. It was very creepy (at the time).

Susie answers:

I dont recognise it, sorry but it sounds very interesting id like to read it.

Your Questions About Godiva Candy

Richard asks…

Would this be considered sinful behavior among the Christian community?

My friend Deliciously Sexy Batty’s wedding anniversary is this weekend. I asked her what her plans were and if she fully intended to get pounded by her sweetie. They are celebrating the candy year, so I asked her if she had any candy plans ie; covering herself with candy jewelry, chocolate body paint, whipped cream, etc. She said her sweetie didn’t like sweets that much. So I encouraged her to take Godiva® Chocolate syrup, cover her sweetie’s beanus with it and go for it.

I realized that the thought of my friend and her husband doing this immediately turned me on? Is that sinful to have such lustful thoughts of my friends?

Thank you for your thoughts.

Susie answers:

Come rot in Hell with me. They got some good BBQ down there too.

Daniel asks…

Which would you prefer for a fall wedding?

We’re getting married next October and I was thinking about the favors. We’re doing a fall theme, leaf and candle centerpieces, burt orange dresses for the girls and trying to incorporate as many fall items as we can. So for the favors I was thinking:

- carmel apples, tied in pretty clear bags with fall ribbon tied around
- a candy bar with candy corn, carmel, chocolates, etc (all in fall colored wrappers)
- little bags/boxes filled with Godiva chocolates (in fall flavors and colors) or
- small fall scented candles (like Yankee Candles) one per person tied with a fall ribbon as well, no glass with our names/date, we’d attach a tag with the ribbon, that way they can take it off when they use it.

Which would you like best to receive as a guest? I know people always say go with something to eat, so I’m thinking that option but I also like a nice good quality candle in a pretty fall scent.

Which one do you like best? Thanks :)

Susie answers:

If you have to have something (not sold on the whole goody bag idea), I’d go with the Godiva, it’s instantly recognizable and impressive.

Caramel apples are not practical (too hard for you to cart around, keep cool, etc.)
One small candle is practically worthless to me – It’s never going to even make it into my house out of the car much less into a candle/votive holder, etc.
The mixed candy sounds too juvenile.

Ken asks…

Hi. have a question abt chocolate wedding favors. Hershey kisses have some cute bags with 12 chocolate kisses?

each that say “just married” on their website that average $2.50 each ($60 for 24). but really didn’t want to spend that much on candy when we are doing three donations (which is really the favor) & our centerpieces are bud vases that will be the “take away” item. Each person will get a program that states the donations which have affected our families (Diabetes, Epilepsy & mental illness) & every couple will get a vase with probably 3 roses. So when you factor in another $2.50 per person it adds up. I thought about doing one candy bag per couple. but not sure how that would be. I planned to buy the just married kisses & scatter them on the table so that way I could control the amount per person (maybe plan for 4 each) but someone on another question said they didn’t like how that looked, like it was messy and unclassy. So I do not want that. So I was wondering, what if I were to buy Russell Stover or Whitman samplers that cost less than $1.50 and wrap them. Godiva is too expensive
I should also have said that if anyone has other ideas to let me know. There will be about 150 people. Or 100 gifts if it’s for a couple or single person because not everybody is part of a couple. so for stuff like that, I plan on 100. But I know that the chocolate is appreciated so i want to do something. And since the vases will act as our centerpieces (Actually, they ended up being less than what a centerpiece would cost, i’m not really counting that as it doesn’t affect the budget) But the chocolate does. First I was going to use m&m chocolate almonds instead of jordan almonds, but decided simple chocolates are more liked. And again, godiva truffles are too expensive. So wanted to know if anyone had thought, suggestions or advice. The primary wedding color is burgandy with white, ivory and silver accents. And it is not until May 2009. Thanks to all for help!

Susie answers:

If you don’t want to spend the money then don’t, there is nowhere that says you have to give people somethings when they come to your wedding. If you really want to do it then just put them out on the tables. Get some and set up what the table will look like at your house and see if you like it. Not everyone like candy anyways. It sounds like there is already going to be a lot on the tables if each couple at the table gets vase. Just put the candy on the table. Or don’t get them at all, the vase is enough.

Maria asks…

3 year old daughter : I have a 2 and 3 year old daughter, they are very much into dora right now, so I plan on getting them dvds, books, coloring books, clothes, shoes, etc. And they will mostly be dora.

Newborn: Congrats! I would get a really cute dressy outfit and have her pictures made. Also something soft like a teddy bear, blankie, etc. And of course some great smelling bath time products!

Dad: I would make a gift basket. Include his favorite coffee beans, creamer, sugar, nice mug, maybe flavored liquor like baileys, flavored coffee, etc.

Younger Brother: I would play it safe and get a gift card for clothing store, game store, etc. Unless you want to get into alot of money with a spoiled 15 year old!! Or maybe even a gift set with axe or bod body wash, spray, deodorant, etc.

Older Brother: Maybe a gift certificate to a nice restaurant for him and his girlfriend. Or even a gift basket for a romantic stay at home dinner. Maybe include dry pasta, sauce jar, loaf of fancy bread, wine, and a candle or a few candles. Maybe even add a nice tablecloth to line the basket.

Best Friend/ Cousin: Im a fan of gift baskets… I would include some momentos if she is moving far. Maybe a framed picture of the 2 of you, or something that would signify something you like to do together. And the obvious godiva chocolate…

Aunties w/ families: Maybe kitchen essentials such as sugar, flour, cake mixes, frosting, brownie mixes, etc.

Single Aunt: Bath products, bath and body works, candles, etc.

Grandmother: A religious book or bible tote maybe?

Your Questions About Candy Buffet

Donna asks…

How much did you pay for your candy buffet wedding favours?

I am looking to have a candy buffet for my wedding favours. If you have had one how much did you pay for all the candy? Thanks a bunch

Susie answers:

I’m having a candy buffet for my October wedding. We expect about 80-100 guests.

We’ve found everything relatively inexpensive, and have bought things as we’ve seen them, not all at once, so the cost does not seem so substansial. The colors for my candy bar are pink and orange and so far I have these candies:

Peach gummy rings (5 lb bag) $7 costco
Runts (7 lb bag) $5 costco
Orange rock candy (5 lb bag) $15/bag- one of the more expensive things
Pink rock candy (5 lb bag)
Giant pixie stix (about 50 in my colors) (4/$1 @ dollar stores)
Orange m&m’s (7 lb bag) $1/0.5 lb bag after Easter)
Pink mx m&m’s (7 lb bag) same as above
Lemon sticks (1 box – about 50 sticks?) $3 at ROSS!
Starburst (7 lb bag)
Orange slices (10 lb bag) ($1/1 lb bag @ dollar stores)
Lollipops (about 25) $10 Online

Also, my there are things you can make. My cousin is making me white chcolate lollipops and using food coloring to dye them to my colors. All she needed was the sticks, the molds and the chocolate … About $10 for 100 lollipops and so cute. You can also do chocolate covered pretzels, caramel corn etc ….

These are the containers we have:

Big apothacary jar ($10 Ross)
Small apoth jar ($7 Ross)
Trifle bowl (My moms – free!)
Giant margarita glass ($11 walmart)
Giant martini glass ($2.50 GOODWILL!)
Glass jar from Ikea ($5)
Glass jar (Ross $5)
3 assorted size glass containers (Ross $20 – but these were awesome shapes and sizes!)

ALSO, be sure to check TJ Maxx and Big Lots. I already have all my glassware now, but if I needed more, that is where I would go, they have everything on the cheap.

Got the bags to put the candy in on orientaltrading.com. They are orange cellaphane bags 100 for like $5 or something.

Most of the bulk candy was found at orientaltrading.com, bulkcandy.com or costco. Sign up for mailing lists! You’ll get coupons! And once the idea is in your head and you are inspired, you’ll see things EVERYWHERE you can use! It’s been so much fun to do it! In my opinion, it’s totally worth it! Good luck! :-)

Lisa asks…

Can someone help with my sweet 16 candy buffet?

I’m planning a candy buffet for my sweet 16, which is really soon, and i’ve already picked out most of the candy and jars, but I was wondering if anyone had any good/unique tips that will make it better. Thanks!
haha thanks for the carrot advice, i actually am a vegan ironically enough but i thought people might go for m&ms over a shot of wheat grass :)

Susie answers:

You should get some colors that match your theme if you have one. The candy that would be best is those lollipops people make i think theres milk in it im not sure but i know its the kind you have to leave in the refrigerator

David asks…

Where can I find square metal buckets for a candy buffet?

I have been googling square pails, buckets, etc. & I am not having any luck. I want to have square tropical colored buckets with handles for the candy buffet, as the party is a tropical theme. If I can’t have tropical colors then I will take pink. Thank you!

Susie answers:

Is there a reason they need to be square?

I found some round pails in pastels

Try “Wedding favors” too

Ruth asks…

For about 100 guests, how much candy/how many jars should I buy for a candy buffet at my upcoming wedding?

So far, I have 9 apothecary-type jars from Micheal’s. I am planning on getting one or two more (unless I need more).

Has anyone done a candy buffet at a wedding of about 100 guests? If so, how much candy and how many jars did you fill? What was the approximate cost of the candy?

Susie answers:

Idk about the amounts..but check out these sites

www.candyfavorites.com

www.candycrate.com

Michael asks…

Is a candy buffet a good idea instead of favors?

I’m nervous that it will be a waste of money and not many people will eat it. There will be some children there, and I am having around 75 guests. I know the candy buffet is a popular idea right now, at wedding you have seen did the guest like it? Would you like it? The wedding venue has large apothacary jars I can use, and I already have ribbon in my colors to tie around it.

Susie answers:

I think using the candy buffet as a favor would be a good idea.
Guests often leave their wedding favor on the table when they leave. I think they just forget it.
If you have a small box or bag, right at the candy buffet, they could fill it and take it with. You could have a small sign instructing them, or have the dj say something about taking some candy with them.
The following page might give you some ideas.

Mine is Russell Stover‘s—almost orgasmic lol; Dove is pretty good too
My husbands is Cadburry :S
To our son—chocolate is chocolate lol

Not a big fan of Hershey’s at all though

whats yours?

Susie answers:

There is a place in Massachusetts called Hebert Candy right off the Mass Pike that has the best white chocolate. Their regular chocolate is good too. They do chocolate lollipops in either flavor that make my mouth water just thinking about them. I accidentally found a box of them at my grocer’s a couple years ago and thought I’d died and gone to heaven. They haven’t had them since (I check regularly – lol). I totally recommend stopping at the mansion if anyone happens to be driving by.

My husband got a box of Godivas for Christmas from work this year, and while I wasn’t a huge fan of most of the truffles etc., the plain bars of all types were pretty darn good.

I love Lindt truffles too.

I don’t like plain Hershey’s but I do like the bars with almonds.

And, I must say, that while I gag a little every time I see a Cadbury creme egg, I do love those mini chocolate eggs they have.

Oh gosh, now I have to go out and buy some chocolate. :)

Carol asks…

help polls and surveys your mine only hope?

my dad won’t shut up about him losing Russell Stover chocolates..I’m almost tempted to go out and buy him a new box.I didn’t notice it walking in and i haven’t seen it once.(thanks to my add) my doesn’t trust me thanks to me being immature as a child but I’ve gotten better.wtf should i do please?

Susie answers:

Talk to your dad about it. Explain to him you’re a responsible person now.

Helen asks…

What is your favorite chocolate?

Mine are Godiva and Dove. I also love Russell Stover and Whitman.

Susie answers:

Ferrero Rocher.

James asks…

What are the best candy creams in the U.S.A.?

Besides Russell Stover, Whitman’s, and on the market candy.

What are the best candy ( creams) in the US?

Susie answers:

For the money “See’s” out of San Francisco are the best.

Charles asks…

Why did Whitman’s Sampler remove the Jordan Almond’s? ?

I was wondering what else was removed. I figure it was around 1992 when Russell Stover bought the company out.

Susie answers:

It is bc they decided they weren’t chocolates and that they sell most of the sampler around christmas were as the jordan almonds are more and easter and spring time snack.

Your Questions About Candy Gift Baskets For Him

Steven asks…

Christmas gift for a guy?

Wanting to do a gift basket for a guy, but not sure what to use as the basket? I was planning to gather up a few of his favorite things . . . gift cards, candy, snacks, favorite team. But what would I put it in?
I think a basket would be too girly. He works many hours, so dosent have time for a hobbie. I’m just stuck on this idea. Please help!

Susie answers:

Hmmm . . . A basket might not be too girly, if it would go with his decor. You could put the stuff in something else if you don’t think that would work. Maybe inside of one of those plastic things that are used for storage or something, if you can’t think of anything else. My advice: Use a rectangular basket without a handle over it; those can be used almost anywhere in the house to hold other random stuff. A wooden box might do too. I think they sell all this stuff at craft stores. Also, I see someone mentioned a backpack. If you have enough stuff to start to fill a backpack, that would be an excellent idea. Good luck!

Richard asks…

What can I put in my starburst gift basket?

My teacher LOVES starburst more than you can imagine so for the end of the year gift I am going to give him a starburst gift basket. I am stuck on ideas and would really like some help. I am going to put in starburst candy (obviously) and a starburst squishy pillow. Thank you so much

Susie answers:

Since I’ve done gift baskets for a living, might I suggest that you not make it very personalized as the implications could cause problems.
Things like tea or coffee, cookies, the Starbursts, pillow and since he is a teacher some type of pen and pencil set and maybe a crossword puzzle or a book of some sort.

That way you have given a nice gift without it being suggestive in any way.

Chris asks…

What are some ideas for a Wales/Welsh themed gift basket?

My boyfriend studied in Wales for a year and is missing it dearly. For his birthday, I would like to make him a gift basket with items from Wales or represent this culture; however, I know nothing about Wales. So far, I have a rugby tshirt, some tea, and a book called” Y Mabinogi / the Mabinogi.” I am looking for some candy, movie, comic, games, etc. suggestions. Anything he may have encountered during his stay in Wales, which he really cherishes.

Thanks for the help!

Susie answers:

What a great idea!

How about a daffodil, harp keyring, welsh flag, welsh love spoon, litttle rugby ball, dragon soft toy, brains pint glass, welsh choir cd (glanaethwy is really good or Bryn terfel), something made out of welsh slate, welsh learners book, welsh souvenirs like a fridge magnet, beer mat, stationery and umbrella.

Some of the above mentioned might be difficult to get hold of out of Wales, but most of it you can get over the internet, from a shop such as this-

http://www.thewelshshop.co.uk/

http://www.na-nog.com

Food wise you could try baking your own welsh delicatessens-
Welsh cakes- http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/database/welshcakes_67264.shtml
Or bara brith, fudge, leek and potato soup or some welsh fudge.

Robert asks…

My boyfriends birthday is coming up and I think am gonna make a gift basket for him. what should I put in?

I know I am gonna get him some clothes and his favorite candy and a couple of other things. I am considering putting some cologne and toothpaste and self hygiene type things in it. I think they would be good to put in it but I don’t want him to think he smells or something because I put those things in there. should I include them in the gift basket or not? and any other suggestions to put in it? I am hoping to make it a little bit personal too and NOT make it look like my mom made it. thanks :)

Susie answers:

Would not go with the toothpaste.
Retro candy would be good
A large gift box would be better than a basket in this case I think

Thomas asks…

Holiday Help!! Question about Diwali gift…..?

ok, I need to know if I am doing this right. I have an Indonesians for a boss and I want to give him and her a gift for the Diwali holiday today. I made a gift basket with candles, incense, candy, a candle snuffer and a large bag of roasted pistachio nuts. Would this be a good gift to give them?? Do you think I should not give them something I listed above? Do you have any better ideas to put in the basket or is this a holiday where you do not give gifts?? Please help me if you know what to do….I will give ten points to the person who can help me out the most. Thank you!!!
ok, bobs not getting ten points because he’s just mean! and I suppose you ment that if I add more it may be too hard to carry??? so this is ok to give them???

Susie answers:

The gifts are adequate. You can add something sweet – like chocolates etc. To the basket as Diwali without sweets seems very incomplete.

If your Boss is a diabetic – though I hope he is not – you could add sugar free chocolates.

Your Questions About Caramel Candy Filling

Ken asks…

What is your favorite kind of candy?

I love Ghiradelli caramel filled!

Susie answers:

Lifesavers gummies yummmm!

Carol asks…

Have you ever had a 7-up candy bar, if so can you still buy them?

7-up bars (not related to the soft drink) were chocolate that were 7 blocks, each filled with a different filling, caramel, coconut, etc

Susie answers:

I ate many of those when I was a kid! Loved the orange jelly section.
The company that made them sold it to the 7up Bottling Company,
and then they discontinued it in the 1970′s.

Donna asks…

I need quick answers for a candy survey…?

I need quick answers for the best candy filling. I only have one day to run to the store (at last minute) to get the ingredients. I’m making Valentines day chocolates for my friend and I Don’t know what kind to make. (I can’t get him to tell me his favorite kind of candy). He’s a really self-less person and says I shouldn’t waste my money on him. So I promised I wouldn’t buy him any candy.

I’ve been practicing recipes for two weeks and I’ve finally gotten good at tempering chocolate! So the recipes I’ve worked on are:

sweet caramel
a slightly salty caramel (good contrast to milk chocolate)
dark, milk, & white chocolate gnash
and a sweetened almond paste.

do any of these sound good? Which sound the best? Should I make all of them and let him decide? Also, which chocolate would be good with your favorite filling out of my list. I’m open to all suggestions!

Susie answers:

Do the second one – guys don’t have quite as much a sweet tooth as we girls do.
[I will be happy to take any leftovers you have...]

Sandra asks…

I DON’T WANT A COSTUME THAT COULD BE FOUND ONLY ONLINE.

I want to be a Pirate, but every pirate costume for 10 year old girls has a dress, or pink skirts or dresses.

and please no answers like “you don’t have to be anything for Halloween or make like a homemade costume because those don’t really work for me.

BTW, I don’t want these super long skirts that you can’t see your knees and please actually search instead of google-ing it and finding the first result.

I hate to copy other peoples costumes so please don’t list

Lizzie asks…

paid $1050 for booth at show, now what?

I am signed up for Portland Spring Home and Garden Show in feb.I have done a smaller show and had okay success (paid for the show basically) but this is a big show and I would like some ideas to make my booth stand out. I make and sell greenhouses (stevesgreenhouses.com) and have a 10′x10′ display house (completly assembled) that I use on a 10′x10′ space so everything has to be inside of the greenhouse. I put up lots construction pictures and pics of my customers greenhouses. I have a few blooming Orchids for show only and have an area for business cards, flyers, and candy on a bench. (benches run full length both sides of house) I also cover the floor with black ground cloth.I’m looking for suggestions for things that will make my display stand out to people walking by. My customers age groups are from 20 to 80 and most are hands on type of people that will assemble these kits themselves, so I would also like to do some sort of theme directed at them Retro? Down Home? Country? Farmers Market ?Thanks for you time reading this, any suggestion appreciated. Sometimes a fresh prospective can shed new light. Thanks again Steve
see what I mean about other prospective first answer with a great idea I’m embarrassed I have owned 2 nurseries and something so obvious went over my head.thanks

Susie answers:

Movement, color, door prizes are attention getters.
Do you plan any door prizes or drawings?
Will you be selling small items from your display to help defray the cost or have only the greenhouses for sale?

Just brainstorming and don’t know if they’d apply: Seeds–seed packets are colorful. Kitchen compost or scrap saver. Flower pots. Watering cans. Colorful gardening gloves and hats.

Fountain, either tabletop or larger. Windchimes. Birds in a cage. Butterflies
Display (for sale or not) of some of your favorite tools. Kid-sized tools, etc. Attract kids and grandparents, especially.

Could you cut a deal with a nursery to furnish some plants in exchange for advertising? Or with a hardware to let you use tools?

Give away a flyer (could be simple, 1-page or less and self printed) about something such as best plants for kids to grow, how to make compost, etc. Or favorite greenhouse plants for beginners. It would have your company info, too.

Good luck.

Your Questions About Sugar Free Candy Ingredients

Nancy asks…

has anyone ever heard of aspartame toxicity?

aspartame is an ingredient found in lots of sugar free sodas, candy, powdered drink mixes. it can mimick symptoms of other diseases like MS or lupus, parkinson’s. im having some dizziness, weakness in my limbs, headaches, anxiety attacks, palpitations, and about 19 other associated symptoms. i mentioned this to my doctor and he pretty much just blew me off. has anyone else experienced any of the 63 associated symptoms? if you dont believe me, look up “the dangers of aspartame” and there is a whole list of stuff.

Susie answers:

Get a new doctor. I’ve never had any problems but have heard that it interacts badly with certain meds.

James asks…

Why don’t schools get rid of their junk-food vending machines?

Why don’t schools get rid of their junk-food vending machines? They might pay for various school programs and make lots of money for schools — but their foods are unhealthy for kids, leading many to criticize schools for being hypocritical. Why do people criticize schools for being hypocritical? Because schools are supposed to educate kids on nutrition. Do you agree with me?

According to the University of Illinois at Chicago, five ingredients should be AVOIDED. You will find these in many, many products inside those school vending machines. These are:

Partially hydrogenated oil
Contain high levels of trans fats. Trans fats increase harmful LDL cholesterol and decrease good cholesterol- both of which contribute to heart disease. (found in nearly every processed
or commercially baked or packaged food because they never spoil)

High Fructose Corn Syrup
Converts to fat more than any other sugar. It alters the metabolic rate in a way that favors fat storage. It increases the risk of type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, strokes, and cancer. (Found in most sodas, candy, commercially baked breads and crackers because it is much cheaper than real sugar)

Artificial Colors & Flavorings
Are chemical compounds made mainly from coal-tar derivatives. They have been linked to allergic reactions, asthma, skin rashes, hyperactivity, headaches and fatigue. They are used to give color and flavor back to food lost during processing.

Sugar
The average person eats about 180 pounds of sugar a year. It triggers a vicious cycle of sugar cravings, increased insulin production, increased appetite, more sugar intake, and more
insulin production, until you are in a cycle of cravings, bingeing and crashing all day long.
(Example. . . COKE – A 2-liter bottle of regular soda contains 56 tsp. of sugar)

Artificial sweeteners (aspartame, saccharin, sucralose, sorbitol, acesulfame-K)
commonly used in sugar-free baked goods, chewing gum, gelatin desserts soft drinks and diet foods. They have been linked to headaches, dizziness, hallucinations and cancer in
lab rats.
(Example. . . DIET COKE – aspartame, saccharin)

P.S. I am ANTI-ChannelOne, because ChannelOne heavily markets junk-food products to kids, when it should be educating kids on the dangers of junk-foods.

Susie answers:

Yup I agree with you about the topic. But, like stated, schools will probably never take out their junk food vending machines because it IS one of their cash resources. How do we fight this? By teaching our kids at home and making them aware of these junk foods.

BQ:if you were trying to lose belly fat/weight and didn’t exercise would you have 100macaroniheat pasta/maccaroni
and brown rice? how often of each?

thanks!!
sorry mistake *100% whole wheat pasta/maccaroni

Susie answers:

This list is completely idiotic.

Get a grip. Just cut out sweets, sodas, fast/fried/junk foods and get some exercise.

And you can’t “lose belly fat”; you can lose weight and work on your core muscles.
You must be, like, 12 years old.

Susie answers:

Natural flavors may come from animal sources.
Gum base may come from animal sources.
For the shampoo I suggest watching this. .http://www.ehow.com/video_2335257_buying-vegan-hygiene-products.html
Avoid Now and Laters.
Avoid Coca-Cola brand things like sprite and coke because they test on animals.
I don’t know about the water.
Not the BBQ, they probably have natural flavors.
Glycerin may come from animals sources.

Have a great day

Your Questions About Halloween Candy Facts

Susan asks…

What’s your favorite thing about Halloween?

What’s your favorite thing about Halloween? And what do you like to do?

My favorite thing is just the spirit of Halloween and the fact that I get to be someone else for a day. And all the candy. :3
Every year, we go to this Carnival a few days before. On Halloween day, my family carves the pumpkin and we make pumpkin seeds. I invite a couple of friends over and we eat pizza, and pass out candy. Then at about 9:00 we go trick or treating all around my neighborhood and then when we get home, we watch movies until like 1:00 AM.

Susie answers:

Everything!

James asks…

Can someone leave an answer that will convince me not to start a binge that will end in a purge?

What ever medium you want quotes, fact, story, etc.
Because my mom bought halloween candy and muffins and I want them all! Please help I am trying to get this under control.

Susie answers:

Have your mom hide the goodies and try to remember that cravings usually go away in about 15-20 min. If you keep binging and purging, you will really tear up your esophagus and cause major problems for yourself down the road. Dont do this to yourself

Carol asks…

Halloween poll?

What’s your favorite thing about Halloween?

*The candy
*The pumpkins (For carving, decoration, or pie)
*The trick-or-treating
* The Halloween parties
*The fact you can scare people or get scared yourself
*The whole holiday
*The decorations (for you to decorate or admire other people’s)
* The weather at this time of year
* Being able to get in a costume
*The crafts. (Like building a foam haunted house)
* The stories and legends and stuff around this time of year
*Games played around Halloween
It seems the option ‘candy‘ is really popular.

Susie answers:

Donald asks…

Halloween: are these things true?

I found this article on the internet and it sounds true. Also I read the Scriptures cited and they indicate that the God of the Bible must hate Halloween.

HALLOWEEN IS THE MOST IMPORTANT DAY OF THE YEAR FOR SATAN WORSHIPPERS

*** The Facts Behind Halloween—Ancient Night of Terror ***
It is the last night of October. By the light of the moon, a small group of costumed figures move from house to house
stating their demands with dire threats. Guarding some doorsteps are grimacing pumpkin heads glowing with burning
candles—made from human fat. Other doors drip with human blood. It is the night of Samhain, Celtic lord of the dead.
Perhaps in no other holiday does Satan so obviously honor himself and honor his war dead. The writer J. Garnier suggests
that celebrations of suffering and death can be traced back to the ancient destruction of all of the Devil’s human followers,
as well as the giant bully sons of fallen angels, at the time of the Flood. Cultures the world over have festivals for the dead,
“held worldwide on or almost the exact day on which, according to the Bible, the Flood took place: the seventeenth day of
the second month—the month nearly corresponding with our November.”—The Worship of the Dead, by J. Garnier.
The Druids were no exception. On October 31, Samhain was said to release the spirits of the dead to mingle with the living.
Druids roamed the streets with lanterns, and on coming to a house, they demanded money as an offering for Satan.
Halloween is a major satanic ritual day. “It’s a religious holiday for Satan and the Demons, with satanists performing
sacrifices and witches quietly celebrating with prayer circles or meals for the dead,” according to a USA Today article. It
quoted Washington witch Bryan Jordan as saying, “[Christians] don’t realize it, but they’re celebrating our holiday with us.
. . . We like it.”
Anton LaVey, author of The Satanic Bible and high priest of the Church of Satan states, “Satanists consider Halloween the
most important day of the year. Satanic, occult and witchcraft powers are at their highest potency level…Satan and his
powers are at their best that night.”
Traditional Halloween activities continue Samhain’s spirit of celebration in the face of frightening thoughts of death and the
supernatural. These include: scary movies, haunted houses, ghost stories and Ouija boards to contact the demons and the
spirit realm. Greeting cards, decorations, and candy are also a big part of Halloween. The holiday is second only to
Christmas in the amount of money stores make off of it.
MAKE YOUR OWN DECISION:
1) Read Matthew 22:37 and you decide: Would you want to have ANY part in a celebration that is
designed to honor Satan the Devil?
2) Read Deuteronomy 18:10-13 and you decide: What are the reasons that you do not want anything to do
with Halloween?

DID YOU KNOW?
WHERE DO HALLOWEEN TRADITIONS COME FROM?
The Jack o’ lantern
When the Irish immigrants arrived in America, they brought with them the tradition of carving-out turnips or
potatoes and placing coals or a small candle inside of it. These were then displayed on doorsteps at Halloween to
ward off evil spirits. However, the Irish quickly discovered that it was much easier to carve out the pumpkin and
this was soon a basic tradition of the Halloween festivities.
The belief behind the Irish tradition of this carving is based upon the myth called “Stingy Jack”:
Stingy Jack was a miserable, old drunk who loved playing tricks on anyone and everyone. One dark, Halloween
night, Jack ran into the Devil in a bar where Jack tricked the Devil by offering his soul in exchange for one last
drink.
When Stingy Jack eventually died several years later, he went to the Gates of Heaven, but was not allowed in
because he had spent his whole life lying and drinking. So, Jack then went down to Hell, but the Devil would
not let him enter.
From that day forward, Stingy Jack has been doomed to roam the earth as a ghost with only a turnip that he had
stolen, hollowed out, and with a coal from the fires of Hell inside of it to light his way.
MAKE YOUR OWN DECISION:
1) Are Jack o’ lantern’s just “innocent fun”?

Trick or Treating
Trick or treating started as leaving food and wine for roaming dead spirits and ghosts. The custom was referred
to as “going a-souling” and was eventually practiced only by the children who would visit the houses in their
neighborhoods and be given gifts of ale, food and money. It was believed the spirits of the dead returned to visit
their old homes during Halloween and, in ancient times, people left food out for them and arranged chairs so
that they would be able to rest.
MAKE YOUR OWN DECISION:
1) Is trick or treating just “innocent fun” as some people claim?
2) Read Genesis 3:19 and Psalm 146:4 what really happens to someone after they die?

Costumes:
On Halloween, when it was believed that spirits returned to the earthly world, people would wear masks w

Susie answers:

So what? Your “article” on the origins of Halloween may be true, but how does that say anything one way or the other about celebrating it?

Your Questions About Valentine Candy Poem

Joseph asks…

Could this be a good Valentine’s poem to two old folks?

Nothing given no flowers , candy or cards
We gave each other our own special gifts.
Making our way to the bed since we have been married
Snuggling beneath the covers and special kisses.
We exchanged something more special
That money could never buy
Happiness and content in each others’ eyes..
Happy Valentines day we say to each other
Hope we can be here to see another..

Susie answers:

Liked this. No gift is better than that

Mary asks…

Haven’t posted here in three months. It’s a Valentine’s Day poem.?

I missed Yahoo Answers quite a bit and I’m happy to be back. I’ve written so much since I was last here so I’ll be posting some of my better works in the coming days. Here’s one I wrote yesterday.

[Title] When My Heart Thinks Valentine

*If there are “cliches”, it’s because I aimed for an almost Hallmark sounding piece.*

Evening skies open wide like a valentine
And a candy heart shaped in the clouds
Is the treat on anyone’s mind
Cotton curls, sugar swirls like a blushing friend
Make a funny face just like a clown’s
Turn round and round again
There’s a strand of comfy red balloons
In a fancy flower shop
Tiny roses bloom like creamy smiles
Blending beneath the silvery moon
And diamond flakes gleam happily while dancing in the air
February sings in key when cherry bells do ring
But you’re the sweet in me, the face I see
When my heart thinks Valentine

In the grasp of bleak mid winter blues
Caught between these toils and snares
Is there time to take a transit cruise
Or climb the steep and icy stairs
When there’s sadness in the thick of things
Like a melting caramel
I could run like dripping licorice
Or hide in peanut shells
They say I’m crazy to believe that blessed dreams survive
So I’ll unroll my hurting heart, see love is still alive
You’re the pretty place I want to be
When my heart thinks Valentine

And through these cold and lonely days that leave without a trace
February stillens me whenever I can’t see
You’re the lovely spring, a pure embrace
When my heart thinks Valentine

Susie answers:

Yes you did disappear for a while welcome back
Just as sweet as ever! I can note the “Hallmark sounding”! :D
btw for future reference I mostly enjoy reading your poems not really a critique :]
thanks for sharing

If Baby Ruth knew the truth
of how I love your Kisses
She would know Snickers apart
You are My only Sweetheart.
My KitKat, teddybear, Sugarpie,
To Mars with you I’d gladly fly.
Forever I’m your Valentine
And you my JellyBean are Mine.

Sharon asks…

My Alex

My only real boyfriend
My favorite boyfriend
The only kind of man I want

What could Alex do without his Candy?
The 1st man I fell in love with
The 1st woman he fell in love with

I appreciate all the unconditional love

All good things will come your way
Especially on Valentine‘s Day

Your Questions About Christmas Candy Corn

Lisa asks…

Why do so many holidays have traditionally horrible food attached to them?

Valentines day = Heart shaped pieces of chalk that say things like,”I LOV U”.
Easter = Peeps.
Halloween = Candy corn.
Christmas = Fruit cake.

Susie answers:

I have to agree that all of those are nasty but calling them food is quite a stretch.

Steven asks…

Where can I get some candy corn…?

I know it’s Christmas time but I’m craving me some candy corn :)

Susie answers:

Walmart has everything

Nancy asks…

Any ideas of some small holiday deserts i can give to my friends for Christmas?

Ok so my two best friends have each made me some sweet treats for Christmas. One of my friends is an over acheiver and went al out by making divinity, glass candy, cookies, toffee and candy corn but my other friend went simple and made home made ores. I don’t want to be the terrible friend and not give them anything so any ideas?? It has to be small enough to bring to school but i would love it do be delicious! Thank you for any and all answers :)

Susie answers:

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies! I topped mine with homemade frosting and gave them to my friends.

Ingredients

* 4 cups (two 12-oz. Pkgs.) NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet Chocolate Morsels, divided
* 2 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
* 1 teaspoon baking soda
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 1 cup (2 sticks) butter or margarine, softened
* 1 cup packed brown sugar
* 1/2 cup granulated sugar
* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
* 3 large eggs

Directions
PREHEAT oven to 375° F.

MELT 2 cups morsels in small, heavy-duty saucepan over low heat; stir until smooth. Remove from heat.

COMBINE flour, baking soda and salt in medium bowl. Beat butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in melted chocolate. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in remaining 2 cups morsels. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.

BAKE for 8 to 9 minutes or until cookies are puffed. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely

You can substitute the second bag of chocolate chips for mint chips if you want.
If you substitute the FIRST bag for mint chips too, they’re really thin, and you need to grease parchment paper, or else they stick.

Joseph asks…

Which holiday has the best candy? Valentine’s, Easter, Halloween, or Christmas?
