Susie answers:
Is this for an ESL class?
Uh…
Christmas-time, star-light, garland-s, candy-cane, commercialized-holiday, lights and bells, this is ridiculous, it’s February for christ’s sake

Richard asks…
Christmas question about decor!?
You see, I have a lot of nature butterfly bright stuff. I want to decorate for Christmas, but y room is small and full with stuff. I used a candy garland to decorate my bed, but it doesn’t look good! I am a crafty person, so crafts will be accepted, but please help me! I can’t pack up my stuff in my closet because my closet is full of junk and my attic is too small! What do I do? Also, I barely have ANY Christmas decor that will go nice in my room because my parents use it for decor in the living room! What should I do about this? And don’t say to get rid of stuff or say to just not decorate because I love decorating! I barely get to do it!

Susie answers:
Hi Katie,
Recently, I saw a Christmas Tree decorated entirely using white lights and Clip On Butterfly decorations.I would suggest that you choose a corner of the room and display a small size christmas tree in the corner using the butterfllies you have ( as the store had done ). I would resist the temptation to over decorate everything in your room in your room because it will be overwhelming and look as though you had a christmas elf explosion. Keeping the decor in one location will balance the room and you will be pleased with the over all look. Merry Christmas )

Mark asks…
Real garland help?
a week ago I spent $65 on some garland for my porch railing and 2 garland candy canes, it is turning brown, I mist it everyday, but its looking bad, is there anything I can do to make it last until Christmas? (I live in Florida) thank you.

Susie answers:
Wrap ends and joints with wet rags/paper towels, it sounds like its getting dried out . . . You know how when you get flowers they have those plastic tubes filled with water on the ends, if you have one of those that would be best, but wet rags/paper towels do the same thing . . . Hope it helps, good luck!

Donna asks…

Chris asks…
Christmas Land-What kinds of Christmas decorations are you planning on using this year?
Tell me what
1)Color with the Christmas balls be
2)what kind of garland will you use
3)What flavor candy canes will you use
4)Will you use colored lights of just one color for all the lights for the whole tree.
http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-bheR2Kkia6NCeqES85MK9h.zFK537TWG

Susie answers:
1. Multi-Color!
2. I’m not going to use garland — it collects too much dust in the home (I’m an Asthmatic — so it is a health reason).
3. Fruit Flavors — I love the strawberry, the blueberry, the pineapple and more of the tropical flavors (but living on the Gulf Coast is one of the reasons too!)
4. My Artificial tree has integrated WHITE lights — and the outside of my house — the Roof Line will have cool blue Twinkle Cascade Lights … The Bushes in the Front will have Multi-Color Net Lights, and I’ll be decorating my Driveway the same way I usually do — with strings of Multi-Color Lights.
And … If I feel energetic — I’ll rotate in some of the Animated Blow-Up Decorations that I’ve not used in a while — so that is something to consider.

Robert asks…
Cute easter ideas for my friends?
I want to get my 3 friends a little easter present, any ideas??? i Want it to be cute and inexpensive, but i want them to appreciate it, maybe candy?? I don’t know HELP!!
Thank you for answering my question, have a great day!

Susie answers:
Marsh mellow easter eggs- decorate them wihte food coloring.
You can include friends names.
GOOD LUCK.

Thomas asks…
Where did the idea of the Easter Bunny originate? Why are bunnies and chicks the symbols for Easter?
Easter is supposed to celebrate Jesus Christ raising from the dead after his death on the cross.
Where did the idea of the Easter bunny passing out eggs begin? How did the idea start?
Why are bunnies and chicks the symbols for easter?
Why do we color eggs and pass out eggs on Easter? Where did the idea of giving out Easter candy originate?
Where did the idea of children receiving baskets with toys and candy come from?
Why do children receive baskets with little toys and candy?
I never understood why the bunny and chick is the symbol for Easter and why we eat candy and colored eggs on Easter.

Susie answers:
It’s a good example of how there’s many different influences in many traditions.
The Bible Easter Story is not the only element of the “whole” Easter Festival. The Symbols you are referring to here are symbols of fertility, spring and renewal.
.

Jenny asks…
Creative Easter basket ideas for my boyfriend?
Already going to get a huge chocolate bunny, all his favorite candies, and I was going to get 12 plastic eggs and have cute little messages inside. What else could I do? Any creative or romantic ideas? I’ll be spending Easter with him too, just to throw that out there.

Susie answers:
Make him an Easter Dinner….
Hide the eggs in really funky creative places.. [Not sure how old you are, idk, maybe under his pillow, in his undies drawer lol]
Make him go on like a scavenger hunt with the messages in the eggs..
Get him a big Easter pinata….
Idk my man LOVES anything Reese’s so, something Reese will never fail you!

Donald asks…
What is the best gift for a child 6 years, who does not like candy for Easter?
Last year this child received a water slide for Easter from his parents. I am not looking for something that big but what ideas do you have that could be inbetween?

Susie answers:
Hi, how about a personalized book? Kids love to hear their name in the storyline. Go to this website http://www.tlc-expressions.com They have lots of titles like Batman, Spider-Man, Superman, Dinosaur Land, Scooby-Doo, Looney Tunes, Sports titles and so many more. Check it out – they’re very reasonably priced, and make a wonderful & unique gift… Good Luck!

Carol asks…
What else can I put in Easter Eggs other than candy? Toys, healthy snacks, please give me some exact examples!
I don’t like my daughter eating sticky, unhealthy candy. Please give me ideas and try to be as specific as possible please!

Susie answers:
Little kids love Band Aids for some reason. They love to put them all over their body. When I was little I used to get princess Band Aids in my Christmas stocking and in my Easter basket. Since they were my own I was allowed to put them where ever I wanted to on my body. My brother used to be allergic to chocolate, so at Valentine’s Day we used to get little books instead of candy. I always loved to get Lip Smackers lip gloss, get her some that smells really good. I know some of this stuff won’t quite fit into Easter eggs, but gives you some ideas for the rest of the year as well.
As far as the stuff for the eggs go, I never got candy in my eggs, I got change. Like in some of the eggs were a few pennies and some had a few dimes. We also had grand prize eggs that had like a dollar or two in it. I hope this helps you.

James asks…
I want a good recipe for divinity and for fudge…?

Susie answers:
Easy Fudge
1/4 cup butter
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips, 12 ounces
1 can sweetened condensed milk, 14 oz
1 teaspoon vanilla
pinch salt
1/2 cup finely chopped pecans
PREPARATION:
Lightly grease an 8-inch square pan.
In the top of a double boiler over simmering water, melt the butter and chocolate chips, stirring until smooth. Remove from the heat. Stir in the condensed milk, vanilla, and salt, stirring until smooth. Blend in chopped pecans. Scrape into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Chill fudge for 1 hour, or until firm. Cut into squares.
Easy Divinity
3 c. Sugar
3/4 c. Light corn syrup
3/4 c. Water
2 egg whites
1 c. Chopped nuts
Combine sugar, corn syrup and water in saucepan; bring to boiling point. Reduce heat; cook to hard ball stage. (Best to use candy thermometer.) Beat egg whites until fluffy. May add 3 ounces dry strawberry or lime gelatin in at this point if wanted but not necessary. Beat until stiff peaks form. Pour syrup slowly into egg whites, beating constantly until candy loses gloss and holds shape. Add nuts. Drop by spoonfuls on waxed paper.

Robert asks…
Does anyone have a recipe for black walnut divinity that they’d care to share?
I have access to black walnuts and also have black walnut extract. I’ve tried a few recipes but haven’t been satisfied with them. Either no flavor or didn’t set up.

Susie answers:
This is Oprah’s favorite holiday baked good: Here’s her recipe (you can also get it from her site)
WALNUT DIVINITY:
I
NGREDIENTS
2 1/4 cups sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup water
1/4 tsp. Salt
2 large egg whites
1 1/2 tsp. Vanilla
1/2 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
Butter an 8-inch square glass-baking dish.
Heat sugar, corn syrup, water and salt over low heat in a heavy 2-quart saucepan until sugar is dissolved, stirring occasionally. Increase heat to high and bring to a boil. Boil, without stirring, until syrup reaches 265° (hard-ball stage) on a candy thermometer.
Just before syrup reaches 265°, beat egg whites in a medium bowl of an electric mixer on high speed just until stiff peaks form. In a very slow steady stream, beat syrup into whites. Beat in vanilla. Continue beating about 6 minutes, or until mixture loses it’s gloss. Fold in nuts with a rubber spatula.
Pour candy into baking dish and spread evenly with a rubber spatula. Let cool to room temperature. Cut candy into 1-inch squares. (The divinity can be made up to 1 week ahead and stored in an airtight container at room temperature.)
YUMMM

Mandy asks…
can i use candy flavoring oils in my divinity recipe instead of vanilla extract?

Susie answers:
I would be concerned about using an oil in something that calls for an alcohol-based flavoring. Divinity uses egg whites much the same way a meringue does. ANY oil that comes into contact with a meringue (from the bowls, the beaters, utensils, etc.) is usually the kiss of death for it…

Linda asks…
i need a divinity recipe?

Susie answers:
I recommend the following website. Good luck!

Steven asks…
divinity recipe in a pan?
I’m using a recipe from Emerill for some divinity off of food network, and instead of making small candies, which last year made a huge mess could I pour the mixture into a 9×9 pan coated with cooking spray and let it set there, then cut it into squares after it sets?

Susie answers:
Yes, you can, my mother always made her’s that way. I still like to drop mine from a teaspoon but you have to work very fast.
Here is a recipe where they made it that way and they added nuts, cherries, and pineapple…very pretty.

Mark asks…
how do i make homemade chocolate candy bars?
i REALLY want some chocolate right now. and i cant go to the store. i want a recipe that i can like just mix together and refrudgerate or something like that. oh, and it has to be yummy too!!
*refridgerate
and so i dont need to use chocolate chips or cocoa butter or other stuff like that. just cocoa or sugar or other stuffs 2
dont be mean about it!!

Susie answers:
Homemade Milky Way Candy Bars:
1 hour 30 min prep
8 servings
2 cups marshmallow cream
1 cup chocolate chips, melted
1/4-1/2 lb dipping chocolate (or chocolate chips)
Combine marshmallow cream and melted chocolate chips in a mixing bowl.
Gently fold until thoroughly incorporated.
Let stand, uncovered, for 15 minutes.
With your hands, form mixture into bars of desired size and place on cookie sheet lined with wax paper.
(If mixture is too sticky to handle, it needs more melted chocolate.) Melt dipping chocolate or remaining chocolate chips in microwave for about 2 minutes, stirring every thirty seconds to prevent scorching.
Dip bars into melted chocolate, and place back on cookie sheet.
Put in freezer for about 10 minutes, or until chocolate sets.
Variation: for Snickers bars, soften some caramels and flatten onto on bars before dipping in chocolate.
Press peanuts into caramel, then harden bars in freezer for 5 minutes.
Dip in chocolate according to the above instructions.

James asks…
Are you still eating those waxy phony chocolate candy bars?
Times were better when you could buy one and it began to melt on your fingers. Now – a – days it’s all chemicals and you have to pay too much for it. Where is all the REAL chocolate these days?

Susie answers:
Nope, I don’t know about y’all but I use to love kit-kats as a kid but for some reason they changed the taste and I haven’t eaten them since

Something thats JUST white chocolate, nothing else in it. Omg I just tried it today and I loveeeeee it, so much better than milk chocolate! I need to stop eating these white chocolate chips, I need those for later lol.
So what brand or store sells these or something similar? IF it’s relevant I’m in DFW Texas.

Susie answers:
Try the bulk food store in the candy making section. They sell chunks of it that people use to melt and make their own candy bars. You might find some in the baking aisle at the grocery store too.

Donna asks…

Need a little Fondue help please…?
I got a fondue fountain for christmas. It says not to put whole chocolate in it, but melted chocolate. What is the best way to melt the chocolate? It says to add cooking oil and microwave it, but is there a better way, like stove top? I also bought some heavy cream as well should I use that to?
And one more quick question, I have some dark chocolate hershey kisses left over from christmas candy, can I melt and use those?

Susie answers:
I agree with Jane on this one for melting chocolate… Its the best way to do it with out scorching it in the pan when on direct heat. Good luck and have fun! You could also get yourself a fondue book and your local bookstore or online at Barnes and Nobles.

Jenny asks…

Mark asks…
Please critique my story?
I’ve been working on a children’s story mostly aimed toward the 1st through 3rd grade age group. So far I only have one chapter written. I plan on having at least 8 chapters. The story is called “The Day It Rained Chocolate Chips” Please tell me what you think of my story and if you think any changes need to be made. Please read the story below
Sadie was so excited it was her birthday and she was turning eight years old. Sadie’s mom decided to let her have a few friends over for her birthday.
Since Sadie loved chocolate, she wanted everything for her birthday party to be chocolate. So her mom made a chocolate cake with dark chocolate icing, chocolate milkshakes with mint flavoring, chocolate biscuits with melty, gooey chocolate chips in the middle, and chocolate ice cream. Even the balloons at her party were chocolate brown. No matter how much chocolate Sadie ate, she could never get enough!
That afternoon Sadie’s two friends Piper and Riley arrived first to the party. When they arrived, Sadie was upstairs in her room. She could smell the sweet aroma of chocolate all the way upstairs. Every single room in the house was filled with the wonderful scent of chocolate. That smell made Sadie so happy because the smell of chocolate has always made her feel so good inside.
After everyone arrive, Sadie and her friends were talking, laughing and eating some chocolate biscuits while waiting for Sadie’s mom to bring out the chocolate cake. Her mom then peeked her head out of the kitchen and yelled, “It’s time!” Sadie and her friends then gathered around the table. Sadie’s mom placed her cake down on the table. The flame on the candles flittered and crackled as everyone at the table recited the “Happy Birthday” song. Her mother knelt down beside her and kissed her on the cheek. “Make a wish sweetie,” she whispered, cuddling her. “Okay mommy!” Sadie closed her eyes and wished as hard as she could. A moment of silence filled the room. “What should I wish for,” she thought. I want to wish for something chocolatey, she thought. How about chocolate cows? No. Chocolate dinosaurs! No. Hmmm! After a brief moment of thinking, something magical popped into Sadie’s head. Without a second thought, Sadie made her wish “I wish it would rain chocolate chips!” She then took a deep breath, blew out her candles, and opened her eyes. Everyone clapped.
Sadie’s mom then cut the chocolate cake and served it to everyone. Since it was Sadie’s birthday, she got the biggest piece. Sadie took a fork to her piece of cake and put a piece of the cake in her mouth. The chocolate icing melted in her mouth. Sadie savored every bite from her chocolate cake.
After Sadie and her friends ate, it was then time to open presents. Everyone then gathered around in a circle. Sadie excitedly opened her presents one by one. She was very happy with all of her presents that she got. Her most favorite present was from her friend Hannah who gave her a book about cooking with chocolate.
It was then time to play games. They played Twister, Pin the tail on the donkey, Simon Says, Duck Duck Goose and the last game was to break the pinata. All of Sadie’s friends were in line trying to break the pinata but no one could break it. Finally, it was Sadie’s turn. After three swings of the stick, Sadie finally broke the pinata and chocolate candies flew everywhere! Everyone was so excited.
That night after Sadie’s birthday party Sadie was getting ready for bed. Sadie’s mom came into Sadie’s room to tuck her in and talked to Sadie about her birthday party and she asked Sadie “so what did you wish for?” “Can’t tell.” Sadie answered. “It won’t come true if I do.” Sadie’s mom smiled kindly and then tucked Sadie in, kissed her on the forehead and turned out the lights.
Said laid in her bed thinking about her birthday party and birthday wish. She then grabbed her favorite teddy bear and clutched it close to her body. She then looked out her window at the moon and stars and she said to herself “WOW I wonder what it would be like if my wish came true?” She then closed her eyes and took in the aroma of the chocolate that still filled the entire house. She went to sleep that night thinking about chocolate
This is just a rough draft. Do you think any changes should be made and if so what kind of changes? Do you think that the first chapter is long enough? If the first chapter isn’t long enough what else should I write about in the first chapter? All suggestions are welcome.
This is only the first chapter. There is more to this story which I am currently working on.

Susie answers:
Is there more to the story? It never actually rained choc chips.
You have some grammatical errors, but it’s a very cute story. I’d be glad to help you edit if you like, just email me. I’m a published author.

Nancy asks…
Can I use Hershey Kisses in a fondue?
I have a ton of dark chocolate hershey kisses left over from making christmas candy. Can I use it for my fondue fountain? Also I’m melting it over a broiler, should I use heavy cream when melting it? If so about how much? It’s about 20 oz of chocolate.

Susie answers:
Yes you can, but melt them in a double boiler.
Heavy cream? Only if you want to lighten the chocolate( making it more of a milk chocolate). And if you do, use only a couple of tablespoons.

Sandy asks…
Looking to fill our favors?!?!?
I am getting married and my fiancee has a good idea, she and I are making chocolate “cups” out of green melting candy and we are looking for an original idea to fill them up with dark blue candy. Can anyone give us some ideas besides M&M’s and jelly beans

Susie answers:
Sweet-tarts, poprocks, pixie sticks, shock tarts, warheads, starbursts, berry skittles….just some thoughts

James asks…
Hard Math question 10 points for first correct answer with solution!
The local candy store sold large packets of candy for 25 cents and small packets for 10 cents. The new cashier wasn’t up to the job, though; she marked down the number of sacks she sold, but forgot to record their prices. At the end of the day, she found she had sold 385 candy packs and had $62.65 in her cash register. Fortunately, she figured out how many of each size of candy packs she had sold before her boss came by. Can you?

Susie answers:
161 large pack and 224 small ones

Robert asks…
Help with cotton candy supplies?
We’re having a food fair at my school on Friday.
Is there a place that I can buy a large quantity of cotton candy sugar and cones? A local store would be best, but a online place that will ship before Friday is also alright.

Susie answers:
Thats kind of short notice but if there are restaurant supply places in your town, they might have the paper cones. They might also be able to get the sugar for you.

Maria asks…

Where can I buy some? I live in San Jose, California. And please, no suggestions about traveling afar or ordering them online. I need a local store.

Susie answers:
I found them in Family Dollar one time.

Chris asks…
Quality street Candy?
I love this English chocolate/candy made by Nestle. It’s called Quality street mackintosh’s. It comes either in a box or a round tin container. anyone know where to get it here in Pittsburgh, PA or may be online. I still prefer to go to local stores and buy it. I dont want to pay overnight shipping since thats the requirment to buy chocolate this season cuz it might melt.

Susie answers:
I only seem to see it out around Christmas time you could always send a email to Nestle and ask them which stores carry this line throughout the year.

What country video is like Christina Aguilera’s Candyman video?
It’s a fairly recent video by a female country artist. It has a WW2 era feel with soldiers and the artist dancing and is very similar to Christina Aguilera’s video for the song Candyman.

Susie answers:
Kellie Pickler- Makin’ Me Fall in Love Again.

Sandra asks…
Who sings the Candyman song in Malcolm in the Middle?
I really like the way they sound. Is that the actual cadets singing the song or is it them acting it out while an actual choir is singing the song?

Susie answers:
LOL i love that song too. It’s the probably the cadets actually singing it. Most people who act also sing so its a good chance that it’s them

Fitness routine and diet help!?
Hi!
I’m 17 years old, 6 ft and started working out about 5 months ago. In that time, I’ve gained 20 pounds, mostly muscle, but some fat as well. I try to eat right but since i;ve started school again i usually eat only three meals a day with enough protein.(I drink protein in water sometimes as well). I Take a multivitamin and multi-oil every morning. I work out every weekday for around 1 hour. Mondays are biceps triceps pecs and shoulders. Tuesdays are abs and back. Wensdays are legs. Thursdays and fridays are same as mondays and tuesdays.
I’m pleased with the way I look and feel but I really would love to lose this excess fat that I have gained and had. I’d like to accomplish this within the next three months. I’ve been trying to eat less candies as I love chocolate and it’s hard to pass up. I also skateboard a lot and get GREAT cardio sessions for hours.
Can anyone suggest a solid routine and diet that I can follow religiously to accomplish my goal w/o losing muscle?

Susie answers:
I can’t suggest a routine but to help you keep track of your diet and exercise go to myfitnesspal.com. It let’s me know a what i’m doing wrong and right

I now have a new coach and I want to lose weight for myself.. He wants me to start running.. yesturday was my first day.. ran with a partner then walked the majority of the hour out. I enjoy eating organically but the promblem is I live with my 28 yr. old brother who’s going to make me pay my own grocery bill if I choose to eat that way.. I need some help and advise.. AKA I don’t drink pop.. don’t eat at McDonalds.. try to drink enough water.. I’ve decided to make monthy resolutions instead of yearly ones.. This month I gave up candy (I’m addicted to chocolate) I need some advise though.. Susie answers:
I think you are doing a great job of losing weight. At lunch I would go with the Tuna or PB and J. Peanut butter has protein that you need. Instead of eating organic why not try low fat or fat free, try Special K cereal for breakfest. If you have an account for a movie store, go rent some dvd’s for exercising. Try doing a walk & jog before you go into an all out run. I do the Leslie Sansome walking dvd’s she is good, I also do an eplitical machine for 15 to 30 mintues a day. I drink all the water that I can. Hope this helps out some, Good luck on your weight loss.

16 year old girl wanting to lose 40 pounds?
Thank you for opening please read on. I am currently 197 pounds. I’m a 16 year old female, 5’5” with a medium build. At the age of twelve I was 237 pounds and was motivated by serious health concerns. Not family.. I just didn’t want diabetes and the list of stuff they told us.. I stayed between 200-210 for over a year and went from 207 to 197when I moved several months ago.. Now track season is here.. last year I was varsity shot and disk.. I’m fine on just water.. at school I eat the cold lunches.. any advise on those.. there’s tuna, egg salad, PB and J, turky, and beef summer sauge sandwhiches.. I’m fine with eating any of them.. Susie answers:
I’m 16 as well! Congrats on losing the weight that you already have. I know it’s really hard. I lost 40 pounds last year in just two and a half months because I went so hardcore all at once. That caused gallstones to develop in my gallbladder and then I had to have it removed. It was a huge damper on myself I haven’t lost weight since the summer in fear of something else go wrong.
Okay, first thing: You need to do cardio work outs instead of weight lifting. Weight lifting just builds muscle and you don’t want that. You can burn fat doing cardio such as running, jumping jacks, etc.
I would also suggest going to all skim/fat free skim milk. It can be a hard transition but once you drink skim milk for a while, you won’t be able to drink anything else. XD It’s good that you’re drinking water, it cleans out your system and whatnot. I know you said you don’t drink pop but you also shouldn’t drink any other sugary things such as juice, iced coffees, etc.
I can’t think of much else right now. :S I try to limit my sugar and sodium…
It’s all about getting healthier as well so don’t just have the weight loss in mind. You need breaks! At least once or twice a month have a day were you don’t necessarily pay as much attention to what you’re eating. Just eat what you’d like. You’re more likely to stop a diet if you don’t have little free days like that.
Oh, and even on free days, no fast food! That’s like the worst thing ever. D:

Susie answers:
-You can eat chocolate, just go for dark.
-Absolutely no fast food. None. Maybe once a month.
-Eat a lot of salad. If you make a good dressing, it tastes really good.
-Running is good. Keep running. Don’t push yourself too hard if you feel like you’re about to faint [Trust me-don't]
-Don’t use mayo. Do not cook with too much oil.
-Eat lots of bland [as in, no oil or deep frying] meals. Don’t be afraid of spices. They don’t hurt.
-Don’t eat extra snacks. You might feel like you’re hungry, but YOU’RE ACTUALLY NOT. Unless you have severe stomach pains. Then you’re hungry.

Linda asks…
Does anyone remember a fruit frappe candy sold in a box like chocolates?
I am trying to see if anyone remembers a candy I loved as a child. They were cube-shaped (roughly) about the size of the mini Snickers we have today. They had an outer colored layer and inside was a layer of a colored jelly and a marshmallow type layer. There may have been more to it but I’m not sure. I think either Whitman’s or Russell Stover used to make them, but perhaps other companies as well. I think they were called “frappes” though I’m not sure of the spelling. I remember that because I loved them so much as a young child and my mother says I called them “fraps.” The last time I saw them was probably ten years ago. I recall them coming in colors green, yellow, and pink (fruit flavors as I recall).

Charles asks…
What is the best chocolate in the world? And what is your favourite kind?
I think after trying American Belgium and those found here in Britain, I think I prefer Thorntons milk chocolate with caramel center.
I have had Godiva and Hershey and Russell Stover and Cadbury (Which I must admit the Cadbury Easter Egg is a very close contender here). Plus quite a few others.
So, what is your favorite brand chocolates and what flavour?
Do you prefer dark over milk or white? I hope I am not opening a can of worms with the whole is white chocolate really chocolate since white chocolate has no cocoa solids from the chocolate liquor, and the FDA doesn’t classify it as chocolate.
Galaxy and Dove are the same companies. Dove is the US brand and Galaxy I believe is found everywhere else. Lovely too. Very creamy.
Cheap white chocolate has no chocolate content in it at all where as nicer expensive white chocolate has cocoa butter in it. Hence why the FDA in America is trying to put a stop to people calling vegetable fats used and not cocoa butter in the production a white chocolate because simply, it is only a white chocolate flavour and not true white chocolate. Silly eh? This is that can of worms I wanted to avoid!! =X
Aztec gold? My husband would kill for that!! He is a chocolate freak like me and everything he eats is always covered in chili’s!!! Now you have me searching online for this!

Susie answers:
I like Thornton’s chocolate. I love the Viennese truffles ones and the cappuccino ones the most. Other than that, I like British chocolate the best. Continental European and American ones taste a bit plastic-like probably because they have to put something in the choc to stop it melting.
The UK is spoilt for choice when it comes to chocolate and sweets. They’re second to none in my opinion:-)

Mark asks…
I hope my valentine likes this…?
This girl and I have hung out for a while and gone to a few dances. We talk about every day at school as we are both fifteen years old. She likes me a lot and her friends tell me that she wants to go out with me. Today I picked up some Russell Stover chocolates. I plan to surprise her after school on valentines day after track practice with a box of chocolates with a note inside the box. I don’t know exactly what the note is going to say but something like “There weren’t any chocholates as sweet as you, so I guess these will have to do. Be my valentine and go out with me?” Tell me if you like it, or suggest something else for the note that ends with me asking her out. Also should I hand write the letter in cursive or type it?
Thanks

Susie answers:
I think it sounds like a really good idea.. I would definately write it in cursive.. Unless you write better in print.. Make the note w/colors like red, black, and pink.. Those are always good for Valentine’s Day.. Good Luck with everything! =) Have a happy Valentine’s Day!!

George asks…
stock investments for valentines day, good or bad idea?
it might be cutting too close since it’s two weeks away, but what do you think about investing into chocolate company’s or floral distributers and then pulling out on the 14th or 15th ?
i looked into godiva, cadbury, russell stover, & edible arrangements but couldn’t find stocks or symbols for any, i was wondering if they even exist because i couldn’t find stock for tumblr or facebook either. i also put some thought into 1800 flowers, and am trying to think of similar company’s to look into. but i’d like to hear if anyone thinks this is a good idea in the first place or if it would be a poor investment.
any guidance is appreciated, let me know if you have any more suggestions!
what do you think about investing in 1800 flowers and pulling out after mothers day? or do you think there will be no significant profit as opposed to the company’s regular earnings ?

Susie answers:
I think it is great you are thinking like that, looking for ways to profit, and asking questions.
But I agree it not a good idea. Often you don’t really know how much money a company made on a holiday until weeks or a month later, or the end of the quarter.
Even if they think they had great sales you likely won’t see a bump. Their costs might have been high or other factors, like a weak or strong dollar changed the numbers. A weaker dollar might increase profits from exports but also increase costs from imports, like buying raw cocoa.
Ideas for trading on a seasonal or holiday basis is difficult because it is same every year so it is already known and factored in.
But don’t stop thinking.
Good Luck.

Maria asks…
how do you make the candy gifts that come in ice cream soda glasses? It’s usually wrapped hard candy.?
Usually butterscotch or peppermint candy.

Susie answers:
Buy them from the experts

Lisa asks…
Would you purchase these candy treats as gifts for people?
1. Would you buy these as gifts?
2. Would you pay:
– $10-$15 for the “hot chocolate bliss”
– $25-30 for the “candy explosion”
– $35-40 for the “birthday candy cake”
3. What would you change/keep the same
Please give serious and detailed answers only!

Susie answers:
No I won’t, that’s too expensive.

John asks…
Parents: Do you like homemade candy and cookies as christmas gifts?
What are you likes and dislikes?

Susie answers:
If the person is a really good baker and provides recipe… Or they layer the dry ingredients in a jar and tell me to add eggs or whatever wet ingredients and have me make it. My mother used to do that.. She’d decorate a mason jar with paints.. Cloth.. Knickknacks.. Christmas ornaments and then fill the jar with already measured dry ingredients.. She’d put the recipe and instructions to finish the cookies on them… Which was something simple like mix it all with eggs, place on pan, put in preheated oven. Simple.
I don’t like people gifting food if they aren’t good at baking or just don’t taste their own work… They could turn out bland, burnt, or something that ruins the taste or they give the classic fruit cake or something no body even likes!

Michael asks…
Easy holiday ‘candy’ gifts?
I need a easy gift for my grandma and i want it to be like a candy like peppermint bark that is able to go in a jar
When i said like peppremint bark i meant how you can just put in a jar and then your done not like similar repicipes and though they are welome too

Can I used a food dehydrator to dehydrate candy bars?

You aren’t going to dehydrate candy bars sorry.

Have a great day everyone.

You can get them at oldtimecandy.com

Daniel asks…
Where can I find sugar free hard candy that feels like sucking on plastic?
I’m looking for fruit flavored sugar free candy. When you suck on it, it feels kind of like a piece of plastic, all nice and smooth. I’ve had it before, and even bought it before, at Wal-Mart, but I looked there and couldn’t find it. They are kind of a wide flattened gumdrop shape. Does anyone know where I can find these? I’ve tried Meijer, Wal-Mart, Jewel, and the candy store in the mall. I live in the suburbs of Chicago. If anyone has any ideas for any other candy, even if it has sugar, that has this same feeling (like plastic) then I’d like to know that too. Thanks!
The ones I’m thinking of come in clear plastic wrappers, I don’t remember if they were the twist kind, or the kind that are sealed like Life-Savers.

Susie answers:
Ask someone at walmart if they will carry it again.
Look on line for candy companies you may run across ir there.

Thomas asks…
What is the Best Sugar Free Candy?
What is the yummiest low-calorie and sugar free candy out there?! I’m dieting…but I have a major sweet tooth! Help!

Susie answers:
Do not go with a sugar free candy!
Most have so many other added unhealthy ingredients to make up for the lack of flavor.
Or they put Aspertame in them with is one of the leading causes of Alzhemers (sp?)
If you have to have something- some of the Splenda’s are pretty good. Carmels , little suck-on candies.
A trick, if you’re having a craving for sugar- pour your biggest glass of water you have, you can add a splash of juice to it if you want! Drink that- usually by the time one’s finished all of it your then working on some task by then and have forgotten about the sweet.
Or just have a real sugar piece of candy. Some thing hard to suck on so it lasts longer.
A Jolly Rancher, or a sucker. Lots of time after I’m done with the sucker, instead of grabbing something else I just keep the stick in my mouth and fiddle with that.
They also have flavored toothpicks out there. Something to keep your mouth busy but still have a bit of flavor.
Calorie free too!
Good luck
Smileycat : )

Susan asks…
I am a full blown diabetic. where can I find some good sugar free candy?
I love cinnimon bears, hot talames . So my question is, where in the world can I find some good sugar free candy??

Susie answers:
Try your local supermarket!

Mary asks…
is sugar free candy better on your teeth than regular candy?
I have gotten into eating sugar free candy lately, and I want to know if eating sugar free candy is better on my teeth than regular candy is.

Susie answers:
Yes, the sugar-free candy is better than the candy containing a high mass of sugar. However, if you brush and floss your teeth regularly, you should be okay. Just make sure to see your dentists regularly as well to follow up on anything that may lead to a cavity or other oral problem. I just bought 2 enormous bags of Sour Patch Kids today at Wal-mart, so I share your love for the sweets!! Haha Hope this helps and enjoy your snax!!! <3

Joseph asks…
Where can you buy sugar free candy?
I need to buy sugar free candy but I cannot find it anywhere…does anyone know where i can buy it?
i need it by tomorrow!

Susie answers:
Any drugstore will have it.

Halloween Candy Corn Treats?
Okay Im very bored and have alot of candy Corn what Halloween Treats can i make out of Candy Corn?

Susie answers:
Make a mix, pop some popcorn, add m&ms and candy corn and maybe even gummy candy if you have any.
Have a great Halloween!

George asks…
Candy Corn and Halloween question w/ horses?
My horse abseloutly LOVES candy corn. if you have it hes right by your pocket and lovess it very much. I give it to him once in a while during when stores have it. Is it okay to give it to him once in a while?
And do you know of anyplace that has it other than halloween?
Also during halloween i was planning on making my horse some kind of halloween treat and going on a trail ride with some friends in the dark…. whats something i can feed him?

Susie answers:
The candy corn is perfectly fine. Lol I had a pony years ago that would eat peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches. Commodore LOVED them and anytime I walked ot the fence and happened to be eating one I either had to share it by giving him half or he would steall the whole thing. I constatnly give my current horses peppermints and my paint mare likes to eat those Fruit Gushers… Go figure. So long as you don’t give him a huge 4 lb bag at one time I believe a handful as a treat is ok:) As for the fun trail ride idea, I like the first posters suggestions. That would be cool! But be careful riding at night and if you have dark horses, maybe get some of those refelctive strips that can go around your legs, stirrups horses legs breact collars..etc incase you come to a road you must rid elaong or cross:) Have fun!!!!

Michael asks…
What are your chances of scoring some candy corn this Halloween?
I think I have about a 75% chance.

I have my baseball bat ready, so I put my odds at 100% this year!

Bartenders: Anyone have a drink recipe for a Candy Corn Martini or candy corn drink?
I was just eating some left over halloween candy corn, and realized that they’d make an awesome flavor for a martini or drink.. anyone know a candy corn drink recipe?

Susie answers:
Candy Corn recipe
1 part Licor 43 liqueur (or cuarenta y tres) I don’t see this liqueur often though.
1 part Orange Curacao liqueur (triple sec or grand manier to make it premium)
1 part cream
I forgot to mention this is a shot. Use equal parts and it will look like the candy corn.

Sandra asks…
What is Dried egg whites?
I’M TRYING TO MAKE CANDIED ROSE PETALS FOR VALENTINES, AND THE RECIPE ASKS TO MIX 2 TEASPOONS OF DRIED EGG WHITES. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THAT IS.

Susie answers:
Egg white powder is dried egg white (pure albumen). It can be reconstituted by mixing the powder with water. The reconstituted powder whips like fresh egg white and, because it is pasteurized, can be used safely without cooking or baking it. Dry egg products can be stored for 12 months and are a terrific source of nutrition. They are usually sold along with supplies for cake baking and decorating

Can you just go look at a copy at the store? Barnes and Noble often has copies even after other stores have sold out. A quick peak could refresh your memory and you wouldn’t have to buy a copy.(Take a small notebook and jot down a few notes to trigger your memory when you get home.)
I realize this probably means towing the children along, but maybe while you’re already out?!?!?!
Just a thought if no-one here is able to help.

P.S. I’ve already Googled It and it comes up with MySpace and Topix members people.
Really? I can’t believe that they made ppl sick!

The famous “ball” in a glass of water test:
From:
http://www.exploratorium.edu/cooking/can…
“Sugar syrup dropped into cold water will form a soft, flexible ball. If you remove the ball from water, it will flatten like a pancake after a few moments in your hand.
Fudge, pralines, and fondant are made by cooking ingredients to the soft-ball stage.”

Christmas Candy Emergency: What happened to the Mint/Chocolate bells?
My little sister and I used to love the christmas candy that was half chocolate/ half mint in the shape of a bell. The chocolate layer was the bottom of the bell, and the mint was the top of the bell.
We’ve not been able to find this candy since the mid to late 1990s. Does anyone know what it was? Or where I can get it?

Susie answers:
I used to get them in a mixed bag of candy, with the aluminum foil wrapping.

Corn Flake Candy
1 2/3 cup Corn Syrup
1 2/3 cup sugar
Boil until sugar is melted, remove from heat, then add
1 2/3 tablespoon vanilla
2 1/2 cup peanut butter
* * *
10 cups Corn flakes
In a big pan that is coated with butter, put in 10 cups Corn Flakes.
Pour the above mixture over the Corn Flakes and stir with a large spoon that is coated with butter. I have even coated my hands with butter for the last of them to be put on wax paper so not to burn my hands as it is still very hot.
Stir until Corn Flakes are covered. Spoon out on wax paper and let cool.
